When I try to use voice input for SMS or email messages I am getting an error message. I press the voice input button and receive the "Speak now" prompt I say what I want to say then it goes to "Processing" followed by the error message "Unable to reach the server". I do not get this error when I use the voice search app for google searches.

I have a verizon droid x running 2.1 that is rooted. For the last 3-4 days I have been able to access the vzw software update server (settings/about phone/software update) - whenever I do this I get the droid version of the endless hourglass and it never connects to the server to return the usual message that "your software is up to date" (or in fantasy-world, "froyo is ready for you to install, you lucky phone owner, press a button..."
This did NOT occur after I rooted the phone and seems to be unrelated to anything I did. I do not have any frozen or removed apps and apart from the rooting and few assorted root related apps, I am not doing anything that would affect this function (to my knowledge).
Is anyone else's "Cancel" button missing the bottom piece when the phone is in landscape mode and you choose Voice Input?

Things were going fine when this Fine day I got a bright idea to change ROM.
I have a rooted Phone with working CWM, so went into recovery and cleared data/cache/dalvik cache,battery log etc.
Then I did a epic goof up by clicking on the ROM file of a different device to install as ZIP from CWM . by the time i realized, it was too late Now the phone boots up, shows logo and reboots,again and again. a previously working key combination to bring diagnostic mode is now not working.
The phone starts up and reboots so fast the PC cannot detect the device in adb mode. perfect aint it ?
I use hotmail using the standard mail app. I have it checked to delete mail on the server but when I delete the mail it comes back once it refreshes the inbox. Anyone else encounter this? I searched but couldn't find anything similar.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt works for me for a bit but then I get the animated circle and the prompt never comes up. Then if I back out of it and come back into the keyboard, all I get is a click when I hit the microphone. The only way to get it to work is restart the phone.
View 13 Replies View RelatedThe voice input on my HTC One keyboard stopped working. On the default keyboard, the microphone key is still there but when I tap and hold it, it doesn't do anything. I tried other keyboards like Google Keyboard and TouchPal X but they don't seem to work. Google Search is enabled and is fully functional.
This is a screenshot for the TouchPal X keyboard. The stock keyboard doesn't have any messages, it just does nothing.
Can we download the HTC Keyboard apk file from Here ? I would really like to try voice input to text and email. Swype is great, but would like to have the option. I am using the leaked 2.1 OS as well. Has anybody tried this install from XDA forums? I want to make sure I don't ruin my phone if I do.
View 30 Replies View RelatedTrying out better keyboard,, been wanting good text input like what comes with 2.1 for a while, the accuracy of the voice input is decent from what i can tell, but when im done recording the text doesnt go into the text field, instead i have to click the text box again and it comes up as a suggestion, is this right..is this how the app is designed..also any other suggestions for 2.1 quality voice input for texting without rooting.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am not sure at what point this setting has been introduced, I have seen it on 2.1 and 2.2. It has "voice recognizer settings" in it, in there you can set Language, SafeSearch and Block offensive words.
How do I access those settings from API? Especially I want to know if the language is set to English.
Also can someone clarify at which version this setting has been introduced? I noticed that voice recognition was using Locale setting before.
How come there is no voice input / microphone button on my android keyboard? I've had a look in the options screen, there's an option where you can enable / disable the voice input button on keyboard, but it's already enabled. I can press and hold the space bar and select Google voice input in the popup menu, but it's too inconvenient. I tried installing another keyboard (Hacker's keyboard), there I have the mic button.

Is there another way to access it so I can text or email by speaking to my phone? Did everyone else have this happen with the stock ROM, or is this a root issue?

So now I only have my droid there in lies the problem what is the easiest way to get a house address inputted, the voice input never gets the correct address unless you are doing one liners. If I try to spell it out before I finish it times out, and I can't seem to consistently input it through the search bar on the home screen if I do it will only show a map of the place and does not offer the navigation to the place what am i doing wrong. It was so bad today i pulled out a paper map. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just updated with the OTA to 2.2 this morning. Now I can not open any RTSP links, it times out and says "Unable to connect to server". I use this everyday to watch two security cameras and it has always worked fine.I tried two links that i know are working and same thing.

I hard reset after the udate thinking something got messed up, still no go. Can somebody try those links and see if you have the same problem?
For anyone getting "server problem" when attempting a voice search with 2.1, it appears to be a issue with random existing gmail accounts. This feature never worked for me with the 2.1 beta. When I flashed the release, I tried every one of my 6 existing gmail accounts with no love, then I created a new account on the phone and wahlaa voice search works. Now all I have to do is export my contacts and calender to the new account and contact beyondpods author to get a new key.

I know vodafone are blocking RTSP at the moment but i'm concentrating on wifi at the moment. I know the streams are live (using m.tvcatchup.com) as I can open the link in VLC but whenever I load it on mobile i get 'unable to connect to server'. i've reset the firmware (unbranded) several times and it makes no difference. packet captures show the desire tries to setup the stream but never receives any RTP data. is anyone having the same problems - i've asked HTC support but they seem to think everything means the phone is faulty and want to swap it at every given chance. I'm wondering if in this case it actually might be?

I am sure it has to do with a certificate (Equifax one).At work when I get it on the wifi it makes me install a certificate and it will be on exchange fine, actually thats how i set it up. But one cell data or anything else it won't sync.On 2.1 it synced fine.

Its been working fine until this weekend, really. 3 separate times, it's failed to load my inbox or sync new messages, and it pops up with the unable to open connection to server message.Ive quadruple checked all of my settings, removed my account, re-added my account, refreshed it, and still, it wont sync my inbox and it still shows that message. I even tried installing touchdown, and touchdown wouldnt sync my email either? I didnt like how it kept my contacts all separate from my gmail contacts, so I went ahead and uninstalled it. I REALLY just want to use the regular exchange email program..But get this, I am able to sync my sent mail though, and Im able to SEND email messages, just not receive them.
We have our own exchange server for our company, and we have 4 other people in our office running exchange on their phones, (2 Motorola Droids, 1 Droid X, and an HTC 6800...) Nobody else is having issues with their phones syncing their email so I know this isnt an exchange issue, but a phone issue instead.Ive run an update (just the *228) on my phone, reset it like 3 times, killed all the apps, and it still wont sync my inbox (just my sent mail..) And again, it'll send email but wont receive it.I know calling or going into a verizon store will be a waste of time.
I have just received my HTC desire, and setting up my email settings. I have three different email accounts, and set them all up. I set up the incoming server settings all fine, but when I put in the details for the outgoing server settings, and press NEXT button, I get the following each time: 'Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding.' This happens on all three accounts. I have used the same settings as on my computer which works when sending the emails on my computer. I finish the setting it up, but ofcourse I can receive emails, but can't send any.

This is because of the certificate that is instaled on my server. On my desire I could click on continue but on the galaxy it won't let me go any further and it returnes me to the setup screen. Please help me find a way to add my server to the trusted list.
