Can we download the HTC Keyboard apk file from Here ? I would really like to try voice input to text and email. Swype is great, but would like to have the option. I am using the leaked 2.1 OS as well. Has anybody tried this install from XDA forums? I want to make sure I don't ruin my phone if I do.

Trying out better keyboard,, been wanting good text input like what comes with 2.1 for a while, the accuracy of the voice input is decent from what i can tell, but when im done recording the text doesnt go into the text field, instead i have to click the text box again and it comes up as a suggestion, is this right..is this how the app is designed..also any other suggestions for 2.1 quality voice input for texting without rooting.

I've had a look in the options screen, there's an option where you can enable / disable the voice input button on keyboard, but it's already enabled. I can press and hold the space bar and select Google voice input in the popup menu, but it's too inconvenient. I tried installing another keyboard (Hacker's keyboard), there I have the mic button.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated to the rooted FroYo, and I'm not seeing the voice input button on the stock keyboard anymore, it's been replaced by a button that toggles between english and spanish. Is there another way to access it so I can text or email by speaking to my phone? Did everyone else have this happen with the stock ROM, or is this a root issue?

How do you get this? Install an apk? Root necessary?
Just wondering if there is anyway to set my phone in such a way that my ring tone will turn off when I open the phone (either unlock/ do anything to the phone). As it is right now my ring tone (a full mp3 song imported from my pc) will play until I drag down my notification bar. I'm using tone picker and handcent sms if it makes any difference.
Also, is there a way to edit the the keyboard input sound when typing with the stock keyboard?
I am so bummed out about this. I tried powering off the phone and then turning it back on which didn't make a difference. The screen stayed completely black when I took it off my ear when I was supposed to put my password in to get my VM. I had to wait for the call to end before I could operate any buttons at all.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIt works for me for a bit but then I get the animated circle and the prompt never comes up. Then if I back out of it and come back into the keyboard, all I get is a click when I hit the microphone. The only way to get it to work is restart the phone.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI gave away my GPS device to my wife took her crappy one for my own use it was so bad that I gave the sum b itch away, no wonder she would always get lost with this piece of crap MIO. So now I only have my droid there in lies the problem what is the easiest way to get a house address inputted, the voice input never gets the correct address unless you are doing one liners. If I try to spell it out before I finish it times out, and I can't seem to consistently input it through the search bar on the home screen if I do it will only show a map of the place and does not offer the navigation to the place what am i doing wrong. It was so bad today i pulled out a paper map. Please let me know the exact steps my address today was 3910 Antioch church rd 23150 could not say it could not spell it and could not input it could not get it very frustrating help is needed or I am gonna have to buy another GPS

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm developing and Android app using the 1.6 sdk. I'm using a TimePicker and I don't want the soft keyboard to come up when you click on the digits in the TimePicker. I only want the TimePicker to be changed using the plus and minus buttons. I've tried using android:focusable="false" and android:focusableInTouchMode="false" hoping those would do it, but they didn't seem to do anything. Is there a way to do this?

Can i record a simple voice message and send it via MMS? It was pretty simple to do with a cell phone...
I saw that the eris comes with a voice recorder, but i recorded a message and was not able to send it.
Any ideas?
Also, when sending pictures via MMS, it always resizes them and obviously the person receiving doesn't get the same quality. I realize that sending via Gmail doesn't resize, but i send to other cell phones a lot.
I'm thinking the only fix is lowering the camera resolution? I think that lowering the resolution is still better than having it resized for the message. Has anyone tried lowering the resolution to a point that the picture does not need to be resized for MMS?
Same thing for Video messages.. can't even send them. Not sure if it's HAndcent, or the file is just to big
If it was possible to use my physical keyboard to type, and have the android emulator simulate it as if it were a touch (specifically- the button highlights, and letter overlay)

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe voice input on my HTC One keyboard stopped working. On the default keyboard, the microphone key is still there but when I tap and hold it, it doesn't do anything. I tried other keyboards like Google Keyboard and TouchPal X but they don't seem to work. Google Search is enabled and is fully functional.
This is a screenshot for the TouchPal X keyboard. The stock keyboard doesn't have any messages, it just does nothing.
From what information I can gather from the web, android browser shortcuts are comprised of MENU + X combinations. Is there an equivalent for the Eris? I do not see how this works given the lack of a real keyboard. To open the keyboard take a separate action and when holding MENU to then click the appropriate letter, all you get is the menu.

The dictionary will come up as if I am typing the word but no actual letters will have been typed. I've tried with both the stock keyboard and better keyboard but it wont work until I restart the phone.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am not sure at what point this setting has been introduced, I have seen it on 2.1 and 2.2. It has "voice recognizer settings" in it, in there you can set Language, SafeSearch and Block offensive words.
How do I access those settings from API? Especially I want to know if the language is set to English.
Also can someone clarify at which version this setting has been introduced? I noticed that voice recognition was using Locale setting before.
Regarding the lack of Predictive Text or XT9 on certain applications: I contacted google with the following bug report:- Steps to reproduce the problem. Verizon Droid Eris (stock, 1.5 i think): tap the magnifying glass to search the web. use the 9-key phone pad method of text input.
What happened."XT9" text input is locked. only "ABC" or "abc" available. What you think the correct behavior should be. All android applications and functions that accept text input should support XT9 predictive texting for the 9-key phonepad and compact-qwerty. The google folks said the following: "Android does not contain a T-9 input method by default. Please report this bug to HTC, owners of that particular piece of software."And then HTC said the following: Hello Ben Thank you for contacting HTC technical support about the abc/xt9 being greyed out. I have checked on this for you and found that is how the device is set up when using these areas on the apps. There is no way of changing this and I do apologize for that. When entering google searches and also browser addresses predictive text is not available for input. If you have any other questions feel free to reply. I am using a mixture of thick buttons, vlingo, and touch input. All suck but touch input has the least lag. So frustrated that the swype version I loved so much has closed. I am having withdrawals from swype and this is my therapy.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got my HTC incredible yesterday from my preorder. I have problem to enable other keyboard such as Swype or others like Chinese input from google. I went to settings-keyboard & language and checked these keyboards, but when I typed text, only the default HTC touch input keyboard popped out, I did not find any key to switch. I did not find a way to disable the touch input keyboard either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI live in Belgium, the Dutch part, and we use AZERTY keyboards here. My phone is in Dutch, but I could only choose "Dutch (The Netherlands)". In the Netherlands they speak dutch but use QUERTY. So, what I did was leave my phone in "Dutch (The Netherlands)", but I am using the French AZERTY keyboard.
The problem is, that the autocorrect now is also in French. When i typ a word the autocorrect shows a dutch suggestion, a french sugestion and an english suggestion. By default (pressing the spacebar) the phone chooses the French suggestion. Is there anyway to have an AZERTY keyboard and have the Dutch suggestion by default?
So when messing around with Swype the other day I noticed that you can change the keyboard types to 'QWERTY' 'Phone Keypad' and 'Compact QWERTY'.Since I suck at using Swype and I came from a Blackberry pearl with sure type. I switched my keyboard type to Compact Qwerty. The keys are much larger using 2 letters per key, which is great for people like me with big hands.Now I can type so fast on this baby it still auto corrects and everything. To change at your home screen press menu > Settings > Language & Keyword > Touch Input > Keyboard Types.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am at a little over a day with my first smartphone, the Incredible.I'm mostly impressed, but this keyboard issue is really bugging me. Basically, here's what happens: I go to compose a message, I turn the device to landscape mode, and when I press the W key, it does not input regardless of where I push relative to the key. On rare occasions, it will work, but I can't think of anything that I might have done to fix the problem.I tried to sleep/resume, power off/on, remove/replace battery, and calibrate the text input, but there seems to not be any resolution.Has this happened to anyone else? Anyone figure it out? I'd hate to exchange the phone for this one thing, but you don't realize how often you need the W until it won't function!

I press the voice input button and receive the "Speak now" prompt I say what I want to say then it goes to "Processing" followed by the error message "Unable to reach the server". I do not get this error when I use the voice search app for google searches.
