HTC Incredible :: Safest Way To Wipe Droid Phone Before Selling?
Apr 26, 2010
I pre-ordered an Incredible and I plan to sell my Eris. I scanned through some posts and I see that there have been just a couple of short responses to this question in other forums, so I will ask the question here in the hope that it is useful to others. Question: for safety/privacy, is it adequate to wipe my Eris via the following method before selling it? Settings --> Security --> Factory Data Reset
Do I need to do more, or will this cover it?

What is the safest/best way to pay for apps in the Market?
It asks for a credit card, is this what most are doing?
I thought I had read that some were using PayPal, if so is this better?

Does using unrevoked 3.1 to root a DInc wipe the phone? I know that with old root methods on other droids (e.g., Droid Eris), that rooting required installing a custom ROM at the same time.So does unrevoked wipe the phone and install a custom rooted rom? Or if you run revoked 3.1, are you simply left with a rooted phone, that's still running the stock Android Sense 2.1?

So I did the 2.2 OTA update yesterday and now it has screwed up my phone. My question is, can I wipe my phone and start over? Can I install 2.2 RUU? My phone has all kinds of bugs now, including but not limited to:
-Cannot get on the internet, browsers close after a few seconds
-Cannot get on Pandora
-Swype does not work, even after reinstall. I cant download new version because I cannot get on the internet because of the browser issue.
-Menu button no longer unlocks the phone This is awful, my android device is now just a phone.

If you do it through the phones own settings whats the difference? Or should you just do it under the Clockwork recovery to be safe? Either way you wont lose root right?

How do I wipe my phone? I just got my replacement today and I want to wipe the defective unit before I return it. Can I wipe the SD card at the same time? I also just noticed that while Backup Assistant synced my contacts names, it did not sync anything else. So I just have a lot of empty contacts. Well the phone I'm returning can't access the network now so I won't be able to sync anyways. Is there a way to grab the contacts folder from the phone and place it into my new one?

What is that sticky post about ? How many of us have wiped our phones and NOT lost 3G ? It would be one thing if that post said you "might" lose it, but it says you "will" lose 3G. So not true. Fact is, I did it to my phone yesterday. Twice Guess what I still have ?

I found this option.
Under privacy there is a factory data reset. I assume this will remove all of it.

What is the best/safest place to do cleanups at application level?
I am creating a single instance of DefaultHttpClient when the application starts up. Rest of the activities will be ustilizing same instance of client. Now I want to release all resources associated with it( or in other words make the following call client.getConnectionManager().shutdown()) only one time i.e. when the application terminates and not on onPause because that will defeat my purpose. so if I override onTerminate and onLowMemory methods and put the connection release code in both methods will that ensure that my cleanup code will definitely be called. The docs says onTerminate may not get called in some cases..so will overriding onLowMemory ensure that all cases get covered?

If you went and wiped cache only, not data, and installed a new rom, would all data remain? What exactly is this cache that nandroid wipes?
I'd like to install a rom for a friend but dont want to completley wipe his phone. I just want to install the virtuous rom, which is basically the stock 2.2 update rom and would like to keep all his data on the phone. would just wiping the cache work? I know some people just install without wiping but would wiping cache help?
And I know a wipe is always better, thats what I do on my phone. But its not mine and would like to save his data.

I'm not getting the best battery life at the moment, have the Seidio "1750", and have seen conflicting reports on if wiping the battery stats really helps or not. Tried it this morning anyway, figured it couldn't hurt. Charged the phone, gave it a nice bump charge, and then booted into recovery and wiped the stats.

Is this correct?A user has reported this to me.I was wondering what the 1.5 public release date was since I haven't had a chance to update my software for 1.5 yet.I thought it would be end of May, but people already have it apparently.Furthermore, even if I download the 1.5 SDK,is there any way to test my code on my phone with 1.5 before the 1.5 upgrade is pushed to my phone.and when will that be anyway?I was surprised to have a user report that his new G1 was using 1.5.Does this not come as a surprise to others?
