If you do it through the phones own settings whats the difference? Or should you just do it under the Clockwork recovery to be safe? Either way you wont lose root right?

Does system recovery "Wipe data/factory reset" resets custom kernel to stock?
I'm asking this because im noob, and I want to try JellyBlast for Galaxy GT-S5570I. It has two zip files to flash one is ROM, and one is custom kernel. If I do something wrong I'm afraid that I won't be able to restore nandroid backup.
Is there a difference between the CWM wipe data function compared to the about phone => privacy => factory reset option?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought an Inc on Friday and I love it, best phone I've ever owned. Although my Eris, being my first android, will always hold a place in my heart, lol. My question to the brilliant minds here, If I factory reset and wipe data will it unroot my Eris? I'm selling my Eris tomorrow and advertised it as rooted. I just want to make sure it will still be rooted once I reset/wipe to remove all my info, contacts, etc. P.S. Wanted to thank all the wonderful users in here who have helped me understand and love the android OS. Scary Alien, Erisuer1, Frisco, Dooglad, and everyone else who I haven't mentioned. View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter I received the OTA to 2.1 I have noticed more lag when scrolling between home screens, using 2D games is painful with the framerate reduction, and many items that are running in the background without me ever starting them. I also cannot seem to keep them closed either. I can also say that I am getting worse battery life now than I was with 2.0.1. I was wondering what would actually happen if I rebooted into Recovery Mode and did a Factory Reset with Data Wipe. Would this possibly help with the update causing these problems that were not there before?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a generic (unbranded) tablet here. The user has used too many pattern attempts. I do a lot of these where I just wipe the device for people.
Sometimes I use key combos and sometimes i use ADB to boot into recovery and then simply select the "wipe data / factory reset option"
However, this tablet has no keys , no volume keys that is, so i used ADB to boot it into recovery which it did just fine.
How can i select "wipe data" when i can't use volume keys to select it? the touch screen is unresponsive in this mode too

but i get a "cannot run as root in production build" error
I have tried to root the tablet with super one click by short fuse but it crashes.
so i am basically asking is it at all possible to do a wipe data / factory reset on a device which is not rooted through ADB?
So, I went into recovery, did a wipe cache and data reset. Now when it boots into the Setup Wizard.. everything FC's. Any ideas why? I cant get the phone going again because of this <sigh>.I did do the root/lag fix last night, then the rest just an hour ago.No clue what's up

I turned it off and then wasn't able to turn it back on, so I took it off the charger (wall outlet) and held down the power button. Phone turned back on but was in setup mode, everything was gone, settings email programs, everything. I decided to restart it one more time, everything came back.

If I try it, the phone reboots and locks into a boot loop. I can pull the battery, but then it boot loops again. I've basically got to boot into recovery mode and reflash a usable ROM or backup to get the phone working again. Is this because I'm rooted or is this because of the ROM I'm using (Skyraider)?

I'm on a team that manages a large number of Android tablets for the company at which I'm employed. The higher ups are concerned that our users will just walk off with the tablets and do a factory reset, making the device theirs. I was hoping there was some way to password-protect the bootloader, but it doesn't seem like that's possible. So now we're thinking that even if we could remove the recovery, it would ease the minds of the higher-ups to know that if a tablet disappears, the user will have to have a working knowledge of fastboot to be able to to a factory reset on the device, and that's good enough for us. I've looked into possibly modifying the stock recovery to just remove the factory reset option, and I would be willing to flash a modified CWM or TWRP without factory reset, if either of them exist.
I know the old adage: Physical access is root access, but if we can at least dissuade them from stealing the devices, it would make my bosses feel much more at ease about spending a buttload on the tablets.
Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

The secret? He has completely disabled the Froyo feature that restores data from previous installs. It's really just a matter of turning off the automatic restore feature before logging back into your Google account. It's a little odd that "Automatic Restore" is still checked by default, even when "Back up my data" isn't, but there you go.The method isn't too painful and does require one more factory reset, but the payoff appears to be a much smoother experience. We've verified it here, a hard reset in Froyo isn't really a hard reset, as things come back by themselves. Follow Fabrian's instructions, and you will have a pristine Froyo installation on your Droid X (or Nexus One -- Sense on Froyo has no setting for this that we could find). Any troublemaking leftovers will be no more, and won't get downloaded and installed automatically again. If you're being plagued with myriad tiny bugs in your Droid X after the update, give it a try! I got a rooted device installed clockworkmod recovery. just wondering if I do a factory reset in clockworkmod recovery will i loose root? Im using super su. If i do a factory reset from the phone when it's on super su and root still remain. Thats what i want.

Since installing my phone has been a little sluggish and the battery life isn't as good as 2.1. I'm considering doing a factory reset since that's what has helped some people. A few questions though:
1) How do I do a factory reset?
2) Will doing a factory reset bring my phone back to 2.1 or 22?
3) How do I back up the apps I've downloaded? Specifically the PAID ones. Will I have to pay again for them?
I have rooted my inc. Great work and seemed easy with all the guides! My only question is i want to perform a factory reset, how do I get the superuser.apk back and/or will I lose root?

I have not seen this mentioned anywhere. I don't want to reset my phone if its not necessary. Also the SD card, can it have anything on it prior to root, or does it have to be formatted(blank)? I'm close to giving up.

Before I did, I did a factory reset, to remove my data from the phone but maintain root status for the new user. The guy who bought the phone from me is having trouble accessing the mobile network now. We had a devil of a time just activating the phone on his number. Verizon helped us manually activate it eventually. Anyway, any ideas what might be causing the problem? I've sent him directions for unrooting the phone to see if that fixes it. Any other suggestions or ideas why it might have happened?

Now I already have AppBrain installed and have my apps synced to my online account so I can easily download them again if I do a factory reset. My questions however though are the following 1) Is there any way to preserve application data such as the notes I had in a notepad application before doing a factory reset? 2) Is there any way to keep calendar data and contact data if they were inputted as phone data entries and not synced via Google?

For people who have done this before, what are some things you've overlooked for backing up your phone beforehand? I manage all of my contacts and calendar in Outlook on my PC, and I've been using AppBrain for tracking my downloaded apps so I'm not worried about that stuff. I plan on backing up my most used programs with their built in export functions. I have no problem re-doing most of my phone's settings. Is there any way to back up my custom scenes? I have a ton of shortcuts created that would be nice to keep.
