View 5 RepliesHow do I wipe my phone? I just got my replacement today and I want to wipe the defective unit before I return it. Can I wipe the SD card at the same time? I also just noticed that while Backup Assistant synced my contacts names, it did not sync anything else. So I just have a lot of empty contacts. Well the phone I'm returning can't access the network now so I won't be able to sync anyways. Is there a way to grab the contacts folder from the phone and place it into my new one?

Under privacy there is a factory data reset. I assume this will remove all of it.
i installed the new smoked glass 4.5. To do so i had to restore all defaultes including all my apps. Do i have to this everytime i flash a new rom? I read for other phone you have to. is this the case for the moto too?

View 13 Replies View RelatedWhen using rom manager when do you need to wipe and when don't you? So far, I have wiped data anytime I switch to a different rom. I am currently using Ultimate Droid. If I want to try some of the things offered in the ultimate droid customizer, do I need to wipe when changing any of those? Or how about cyanogenmod? I have a nandroid backup of 5.0.5.3. Can I restore that version (with a wipe of course), update to .4 (without a wipe because I have all my apps loaded and settings set the way I want), then try some of the kernals without wiping? Basically, with all the combinations, what are some examples of when you would and wouldn't wipe data?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was going to try a new ROM today, but since my last 2.2 update returned an "error" about not having an app2sd partition (and my SD card is getting somewhat "junky" anyway), I was thinking of just wiping the entire contents and reformatting prior to flashing.I made a mirror copy of my current SD contents to my computer (just in case), but I'm not sure if reformatting the SD is a bad idea.I'm also not sure at which point during the entire re-flashing process I should perform the reformat. Can anyone shed their opinion on if and when to do something like this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI pre-ordered an Incredible and I plan to sell my Eris. I scanned through some posts and I see that there have been just a couple of short responses to this question in other forums, so I will ask the question here in the hope that it is useful to others. Question: for safety/privacy, is it adequate to wipe my Eris via the following method before selling it? Settings --> Security --> Factory Data Reset
Do I need to do more, or will this cover it?
Wanted to wipe data/cache before i flashed a new rom..so i did it in recovery..but after i did it and rebooted, when i got to the "touch android to begin" the touch wouldnt register..what's the problem? tired it a few times and was the same.
View 17 Replies View RelatedI'm considering installing a rom and I've heard that doing a data and cache wipe is the proper thing to do to ensure success. What I'm concerned about is how easy it is to restore/re-do all of your settings like ringtones, notification settings, app settings etc. How long does it usually take you to set up your phone again after installing the new rom?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you do not root, you could go from 2.0.1 to 2.1 with no wiping of data and cache, it just installs & away you go. Same with 2.1 to 2.2. No wiping of data and cache and all is still there as you left it: apps, settings, preferences, etc. SO, why is it important to do this if you root? What's the difference? And, who said it was important to do? Is there some exact proven logic on why if your rooted you must do this and if not, your somehow fine? That 1 step difference causes a lot of extra work, so I am wondering why this is said to be a must for rooters and non rooters need not do it when they get updates?
View 18 Replies View RelatedAfter I received the OTA to 2.1 I have noticed more lag when scrolling between home screens, using 2D games is painful with the framerate reduction, and many items that are running in the background without me ever starting them. I also cannot seem to keep them closed either. I can also say that I am getting worse battery life now than I was with 2.0.1. I was wondering what would actually happen if I rebooted into Recovery Mode and did a Factory Reset with Data Wipe. Would this possibly help with the update causing these problems that were not there before?
View 2 Replies View RelatedRooted tonight, and playing with ROM Manager and Bugless Beast V0.4 (Froyo). I'm wondering when installing a ROM using RM, it asks if you want to do a backup and wipe before installing. I have already done a backup and don't really want to start over with a completely blank slate once Bugless is installed. Is it possible to just install a ROM without doing a wipe first? If possible, should it still be avoided to prevent issues? Basically just wondering if a full wipe is needed/recommended before installing a new ROM.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI did a quick search but can't find the answer. I did a factory reset and my dumb azz forgot to delete the SD card first. Does the reset wipe it also? I am going to sell my droid since I have a droid X. Sorry for a stupid question it its been posted.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi noticed that the majority of ROMs (if not all of them) require you to wipe system/data/cache before you install. my understanding is that doing this will basically reset your phone back to what it was when you first got it. i want to install a ROM, but really don't want to have to go and install all my apps again and fix all the settings for each etc. i noticed in Titanium Backup that you can backup apps, system or both. if i were to back up both and then install the ROM, when the phone rebooted, could i just install Titanium Backup and restore apps and system? would return my phone to how it was before i wiped? if this is false, are there any other ways to facilitate the restoring of stuff after wipe?

Is there something that wrapsol will do now that my nicely protected and wrapped phone is going back to the verizon God's?I also told them about the 2 times in the last week the phone went to sleep/blacked the screen while scrolling through the home pages without hitting a button or anything and they said neither the pixel or the phone going blank are known issues
Im running CyanogenMod 5.0.5.7 with BlackIceTheme right now and im wanting to switch to NexTheme 2.0 so just switching themes not roms i went ahead and downloaded it on rom manager and installed it without wiping data/cache when the phone rebooted it had no signal and still had part of the BlackIce theme and parts of nextheme so no i need to wipe data/cache before installing this theme
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get more information on what Android 2.0's capabilities are around its ability to sync with Exchange. My company requires PIN locking and remote wipe in order to sync, but it seems nearly impossible to find out of this is a supported feature within 2.0. Has anyone tried this with a similar set of Exchange policies that may have tested 2.0 or the Droid itself?

I made a nandroid backup b4 flashing those roms..so my question is this: Do i have to wipe cache/data before i flash my nandroid backup? Or can i just flash it w/o doing any extra steps?
