HTC Incredible :: Primary Method Of Charging
May 5, 2010
Just wondering what everyones primary method of charging their incredible is. Have you had any issues to note yet using alternate charging methods? When I was in blackberry land they always recommended not charging through the PC, which no one really ever explained to me why not, so I have been hesitant to leave it hooked up to my PC at work

Just like to say thanks for all the help people have given me in the past, this forum has been great. My Desire is fantastic, does some odd things now and then but essential it is ok (like once the camera wouldn't work but the camcorder would? then it just started working again, the weather widget pops up quite a bit as does the desktop clock but I can just cancel them so no real big deal). Anyway, what I would like to know is when I pull up my contacts in the phonebook, there is a primary method of contact associated with some of them. I take it that this is automatically assigned the first time I contact that person. Does anyone know how I can change the primary method of contact?

I did the 2.1 droid Eris update, and found a few issues.
One might just be me, but I had my droid set the way I wanted it to be before the update, and now I have no clue how to get back to my original settings. So, trying not to sound like a dumbass here.
1. When I turn the phone off and then back on, my messages widgets goes away from the screen I have it on. All that shows up is a little folder that I have NOTHING IN. And it's really starting to bug me, 'cause I love that little widget where I can just cycle through the messages.
Do I have to lock just that screen? It's the only widget affected when the phone goes on and off.
2. None of my contacts got erased; however, I noticed that my one primary is set to text, but when I go to edit the profile, it's set to call. This one I might just leave alone, but none of the ringtones that I have set for them are working. I saw a thread earlier about the People thing, but I'm not sure if I fixed this. And how would I go about changing the primary method of contact (text/call) or is set permanently like that?

I thought that there was a default setting to change all numbers in Contacts to list a particular number (mobile, home, work, etc). I would like all of my contact's primary numbers to call home numbers and not mobile numbers. However, some of them are set to Work as primary while others are set to Home. How do I change this? Thanks

Ok. So I've switched from a Moto Droid to an Incredible. The contacts are a bit different. I'm having a problem, and HTC customer service says there's no solution. With the Droid you could choose to label a number for a contact (assuming the contact has multiple numbers or e-mails) as the primary number. I never figured out how to get rid of any primary designation, but that's another matter. Well, with the Incredible, the People app automatically designates a number as primary. You can change the primary number, but you can't eliminate it, which is annoying for two reasons: 1. in the dialer, when you type the person's name only the primary number comes up and 2. in the People app when you tap on the contact's photo to get the methods of contacting and then press phone, it auto dials the primary number only. I have several contacts who use multiple numbers with equal frequency. Plus, to top it off, HTC's People app listed the wrong number as the primary in many instances, which means I have to go through all my contacts on the phone. This is a phone-specific feature and is unrelated to Google contacts. So, that's my complaint today. It's purely about functionality, and it applies equally to e-mail addresses as well as phone numbers.

Under each contact person it gives the chance to enter numerous numbers (i.e. home, mobile, work). then when u go to that person it gives a ton of options. For example if work, home and mobile are all listed it will give the option to call all 3 numbers and send message to all 3 numbers. Obviously I can't send message to work or home numbers. So....my questions is can I somehow delete the options to send message to home and work numbers? That way the the only options listed are: call home, call work, call mobile and message mobile. Also I did it once and forget how...but how can I change which number is the primary one on a person's contact list?

I have a quick question about editing a contact that I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with. When looking at a contact, you will notice that one phone number (and one email address) is marked as "Primary". When calling without directly using contacts - just the list that pops up as you are typing the number or name - the phone call will be made to the number that is marked as "primary" instead of giving a choice. How do you change the "Primary" number for a contact? So far, the only way I have found to do it is to delete all numbers except for the one I want as the primary, and then add the rest after. Is there a way in editing the contact to just make this change without deleting the numbers and adding them back?

Here is a little trick I discovered recently. If you have a later model BMW with the USB port that you would either plug in the iPod connector or a USB stick, if you plug your Incredible in you will be able to charge that phone through the port, negating the need for a separate cigarette lighter charger. This may work on other cars with a USB port, but your mileage may vary.Additionally, you could set up your music folder and playlists directory on the Incredible's internal storage to use it for music playback. Unfortunately on my 2008 X5 with the "single button" iDrive, it only reads the internal storage memory, and not the SD card.

I'm trying to override the onBackPressed() method of the ActivityGroup class:
public class MyClass extends ActivityGroup {
@Override
public void onBackPressed() {
// do something
return;
}
but I'm getting the error The method onBackPressed() of type MyClass must override a superclass method. I'm relatively new to Java, I've seen here that people do it and it works for them Why I'm getting this error? I'm writing an app for android 1.5, could the problem be here?

In Eclipse, when I mouse hover over a built-in method, it displays a method definition including stuff like what the method does, input objects, return objects etc. If I have a yellow line (warning) under the method I'm trying to use, I can't get the mouse-over to show the definition. If I try hitting F3, I get a "The Jar of this class file belongs to container "Android 1.6" How do I show the definition of the method I am using when there is a warning?

I have had the phone for about a week. I have charged it about 4 times now. This is what I get before I have to charge:
Phone on for 9 hours
About 30 text messages
60 minutes of phone conversations
About 50 minutes total on internee
About 45 minutes setting up my screens and moving apps around
After this the battery goes DEAD!!! Just does not seem right. Should I expect an improvement after a few more charges? Any suggestions?

How can I get my phone to charge while using my GPS? I have it attached to a charger in my vehicle. As soon as I use the GPS navigation, the phone quits charging even when it is plugged into the utility outlet. Once I exit navigation charging resumes.

given all the tweaking I'm doing for battery sakes, I think it's a bit silly that probably the single biggest gain wrt battery life could be gained through the elimination of bump charging. if I could wake up in the morning and have my phone actually charged to 100% instead of 90%ish, that would be great.any rom's or apps have a way to fix this?

So I made the mistake of trying to drive 80 mints using my DInc as a GPS unit. Drained about 25% of my battery. On the way back I didn't use GPS, but had BT turned on. In 80 mints it charged my battery 5%. With 2.1 and this same charger I didn't have this problem. My problem there was that the battery got really hot and stopped charging. I fixed this by simply mounting the thing in front of an A/C vent. Problem solved. Now Froyo has "fixed" this overheating issue by making the phone not charge so fast so it's now basically useless as a GPS unit IMO. Is there a ROM out there that fixes this charging issue?

I used my Droid Incredible as a GPS yesterday while having it connected to a charger. After an hour or so, I realized that the battery was almost drained. I checked the charger to make sure that it was plugged into the utility plug. Then as soon as I exited the GPS on my phone it began to charge. How can I keep the phone charging while using my GPS?

When I charge my Incredible with the AC charger, it is fine. But right when I unplug the USB (at 100%), the battery would drop to 92% in 2 minutes with me not doing anything at all. Then I plug it in my CAR charger and when it reaches 100% everything is perfectly fine. The phone still last all day with a lot of usage. But just wondering if anyone knows why the battery drops to 92% so fast?

I am going to be going on a 5+ hour trip tomorrow, and I would like to let my girlfriend use my Incredible internet connection on her new Mac Book. Ideally I'd like to just turn my Incredible into a WiFi hotspot so she can simply connect while I keep it plugged in to charge. However, since I'm not rooted, I know it's not so simple. Anyone here have advice for it? I know I can do Blue tooth connections with PdaNet, but that takes a lot of configuring on the Mac, doesn't it? I also know I can tether one of many ways, but never tried on her Mac before. Anyone have any solutions for the best method to handle this?

So I normally use the HTC wall charger but left it at home and grabbed a Plantronics wall charger that came w/ my bluetooth. It's micro usb and everything, 5.0v output, etc. I plug it in, and the battery goes from red to green w/ a lightning bolt, but the green is moving to simulate charging. and a pop-up keeps telling me i'm at 12%. So, will other chargers not work on this thing?

I was having issues with my Inc. after the 2.2 OTA so I did a factory reset which seems to have resolved a lot of the glitchyness, BUT, now when I charge the phone after a while the notification LED starts to flash and as it does this it alternates between amber and green and doesn't stop until I unplug the charger...

i woke up this morning to find that my inc was pretty hot (left plugged in overnight to charge), and had not charged much (it only got to ~60% starting from 30ish). it also had the overheating warning blinking lights (alternate green and amber) going. i unplugged the phone and the blinking lights stopped and it cooled back down. when it was hot BatteryLeft was reporting 45C, right now it feels normal and reports 31.5C.should i be worried? all i did was plug it in and leave it on my desk like i normally do when charging, this is the first time it's ever done this for me.
