HTC Incredible :: Phantom Skinz Or Zagg On Lens Cover
May 6, 2010
I have an extra Zagg and an extra PS that I'm thinking about cutting and sizing to fit the camera lens. I'm opposed to using any kind of cover, but these leaves the camera cover exposed. The only potential problem I see is my photo shots coming out blurry, and I'll most likely use the PS as it is a little bit more transparent than the Zagg.

I put a Zagg Invisible shield on but did not like the super glossy orange peel look so I removed it. I checked out the steinheils website and some youtube vids and they look really nice. Is the only difference between the steinheil crystal and the anti-fingerprint the finish? I'm not too sure I'd like the matte finish as I would think it would slightly dull the brightness of the display. I've also seen the Phantom skinz and the orange peel effect seems to be a bit better than on the Zagg. Anyone with experience using both Zagg and Phantom SKinz products how do they compare? Does either of the two have a definitive advantage over the other in terms of appearance and feel of the coating while sliding your finger over it.

My wife and I got our Incredible yesterday and applied the Phantom Skinz...However, there are fingerprints on the sticky side of the protector that are now very visible. We made sure our hands were clean, and kept our fingers wet while applying...Anyone offer any advice or tricks to get this perfect?

Originally I kind of dug the red accents on the phone. But the more I've played around with it (different themes, etc.), I've kind of gotten over the red ear piece and camera lens cover. I've been kicking around the idea of dying/changing the color of the ear piece black for starters. Not sure what I would do with the lens cover, maybe just wet sand and polish although I understand it fairly delicate and thin.
My HTC letters have already been removed since the H removed itself, so I decided to finish the job. So maybe I am just looking for a more stealthy look. Anyone else or am I just insane?

Any bright ideas for keeping the phone off of the camera lens? I wish I could add feet on the four corners that would raise it above the lens on flat surfaces.
Do silicon covers raise it enough that the lens does not touch?
Even a small screen protector for the camera lens? Though I don't see that staying on as I slide the phone into my pocket.

On my DI the glass/plastic that covers the camera lens pushes a little at the bottom. The top feels solid. I have a bodyglove case and have never dropped it or anything.I'm concerned that it will eventually push all the way in or moisture will get under the glass.Does the glass push in at all for anyone else?

Like many other people, my camera lens cover pushed in slightly letting dust onto the lens. I didn't want to go to verizon, lose my phone for a month, and lose my data just for a tiny part so I'm taking matters into my own hands. This procedure is currently in progress and may or may not be successful. Cross your fingers for me!
1)Take off the back cover of your phone.
2)Using your fingernail, gently pry up the camera lens cover. It is only attached by a weak adhesive. When you're done, the phone looks like this with the camera lense exposed:
3)Now pop the glass lens cover and the foam piece behind it away from the red ring and scrape away the old glue that held these parts together. Sorry I don't have a picture of this.
4)Put a dab of gorilla glue on your finger and smear it on the red ring. Place the glass lens cover on the glue without smearing glue on the lens. Use the back of a regular Bic-type pen to apply pressure to hold the components together.Well, that I far as I am. At 11:00, I think the glue will be dry enough to continue and I will update my progress. At this point my biggest worry is glue smudges on the glass.

Since there appears to be no refund option once you attempt to install the Phantom Skinz, I'm going to install the second set just for the fun of it, I guess. I've used this brand in the past for all my Blackberries, and they were always great. But this time the fit was not perfect. And I'm a little ocd about that kind of thing.I wish they refunded, since they were the most expensive option. I'm going to try out the next group, I guess. One suggestion to those who go with Phantom Skinz. I would leave the back off. It doesn't look great, and soon you will be able to replace the back of the phone for about the same price as a new skin.

I plan on adding a lil personalization to my Evo. Personally I want some rhinestones. I contacted Phantom Skinz customer support and this seems to have no effect on the actual phone. May not be interesting to some but to some of the ladies who wanna add a little glam to a seemingly masculine phone this seems to be a viable option. Update: I have finished my case. I chose to add bling to a clear case instead of on the Phantom Skin. Here's a pic

I just applied the phantom skinz to my phone and stupidly I applied it to my phone and it was all good but left a smudge so while battery and phone on, I reapplied the screen protector without realizing the phone was still on... now it seems like there was too much water and the screen is distorted. Anyone know if I really messed up my phone or is it possible that its just water that needs to evaporate or do I need to go to radio shack and get a replace (if possible)?

New here. I'm interested in the Phantom Skinz full body kit, which seems to come in both a smooth/glossy finish and a matte finish. Has anyone tried the matte one? Just curious what it looks/feels like. I like the feel of the Eris phone body, so I would want something that comes close to that. Phantom Skinz - Clear Protection Film for HTC Droid Eris.

So I got my phantom skinz screen protector today. I went to put it on and it didn't fit. It was too small by about a 1mm on each side (length and width). I thought these things were supposed to be slug fits. Is this normal or should I contact them?

I was wondering if anyone has ordered the full protection from Phantom skinz for the captivate, and how long it took to arrive? I got an email telling me that it shipped 2 weeks ago, and it is still not here (they dont track).. so Im wondering if they use some ultra slow method of shipping or something.

In another thread here, I made an offer to compare two brands of screen protectors: One from clearfreak.com, (abbreviated CF here) and the other from phantomskinz.com (abbreviated PS here). PhantomSkinz Guru took me up on the offer, and I was finally able to conduct the comparison today. I'm a mechanical engineering major in college, so I hope that in terms of technical and physical specs I will do this justice, but my grammar and punctuation might not be top-notch like pro reviewers. Also, I'm not being paid by either party for this (yet? j/k). I apologize in advance for any tendency to wander. So, here we go. (if you have a question/comment I will answer if I can or add it to OP) On the websites: CF offers either the screen protector alone, or a screen + back protector. Each is one piece. Price at the time of review was $6 for the front, $12 for front + back. Looks simple enough.
PS offers either the screen protector alone ($9.95), or a full body kit ($24.95), which not only includes the rear of the phone, but the sides as well. The full body kit comes as several pieces that must be applied individually. They were having a "winter special" at the time of this review, and so you get two of whatever you ordered... a great deal if you should mess up the application process, or are rough with your phone.................

I tried installing the Phantom Skinz I received yesterday and I couldn't for the life of me get the smaller pieces for the sides of the phone (only tried the sides on the top half of the phone) to stick. They would just slide right off and would not adhere to the phone. It was especially bad around the corners. I have installed many of these (multiple phones, macbook, ipods, etc...) and I have never had this much trouble installing one. Any suggestions from you guys who have installed one of these on the Droid? What should I mix the water with to get the best stick? I tried a drop of dish soap and that obviously didn't work. I did get the one on the screen fine (however there are some bubbles that still haven't went away after 24 hours !)

I have for sale:One stock Eris battery, never used, unopened in plastic baggie. $20 shipped. One complete Phantom Skinz full body film for the Eris. This is $17 plus shipping for two now that it's on sale. I'll sell it for $10, shipped.I will say that I really liked the Phantom Skinz on my Eris. The only thing that I didn't like was it eliminated the "soft touch" feel on the back. Other than that, no bubbling, very smooth, did not interfere with the screen and great self-healing.

I have seen threads on the best screen protector, and I have some of my own conclusions. I have had every single one I am listing, I have used them each for about 1 month to 2 months, so I know what I am talking about. Here they are. With each one, at the end I will include scores ranging from 0-5. And the overall, average of each one. Grip- How well each one is set down on something and able to remain put during a drive or something, and how it feels in the hands.
Screen Feel- How close and nice it feels to the screen. Protection/Scratch Test- How it preforms to the normal keys in the pocket and nails etc, hitting the screen and phone. Price- Worth the price paid? How well of a deal it is. Installation- How easy it was. Overall- The average of the 5. Background= All were installed using Zagg Spray. I used each for about 1-2 Months Each. I only bought the Full Body Protection. The Zagg Cost me 19.99 for one. The Phantomz Skinz cost me 25 for Two. And Stealth Guard cost me 9.99 for TWO. Took my time with installations and all. Thanks and have a good time reading this.......................

I've had my Desire for just over 2 months now and like to think I look after it - i.e. it doesn't get dropped or thrown about etc. However I've noticed that the rear camera lens cover is already badly scratched which is having a detrimental effect on any photos I take - they have a slightly 'misty' look to them. Quite disappointed by all of this as I owned a SE W880i for 3 years and the lens is still as good as the first day it left the box Just wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem and if there is a fix? I could pop out and buy another cover but I fear it would only last another 2 months and using a protective case isn't that appealing!

Since the glass covering the lens for the camera is flush with the back of the phone, with my droid I constantly have fingerprints all over it just from holding the phone. With such a tiny lens, a tiny bit of grease from your fingerprints can completely ruin videos and pictures.Things like Phantomskinz intentionally leave the lens uncovered - probably because putting any kind of fingerprint resistant material over it would compromise its optical qualities.I was originally looking at the hard silicone snap on case because that would effectively inset the lens a few millimeters from the back of the phone, meaning my skin wouldn't be touching it when just holding the phone. However, I decided not to use this because it wouldn't fit in the car dock with that case.Aside from simply cleaning it off every time you want to take a picture or video, has anyone found an easy way to keep finger prints off the lens protector?

I accidentally ordered too many Zagg Invisible Shields Lol. I only ordered one extra so instead of going through Zagg to get a refund I decided to give back to community. Just send me a short PM explaining why you need it. I will pick my winner sometime tomorrow and hopefully have it sent in the mail by Wednesday. It's just the front cover screen and install kit.

Is it just me, or are they hard to put on? I used one of the 50% off coupons to pick up a shield for 10 bucks. When I got it, it took me 3-4 times to put it on, and still there were bubbles, even after 24 hours of drying.I contacted them and they were pretty much no help as I did everything already that they suggested. So I went to Best Buy today to pick up another one and to have them them install it for $7.99. It looks FANTASTIC. It took him about 3 minutes to do! They did have their own bottle of some liquid not the standard one that came in the package. Anyway, if you have trouble or want it done right, have them do it!

What's your vote? They both look like strong contenders but it also looks like the Inv.Shields are thin and stretchy and the Clarivue are more stiff. Wouldn't stiffness aid in easy installation and fewer bubbles. How do these screens look through polarized sunglasses?

Looks pretty craptacular right now. I know I'm supposed to give it another 12-24 hours to dry and "cure" (although I seem to recall seeing the timeframe of 24-48 hours on this board, anyone vouch for that?), but I'm a little concerned.Sorry for the huge crappy pic, had to take it with my old phone. But you can see the smears and lines. Those are what I'm worried about. Anyone who's used a Zagg able to comment on whether those disappear in the curing process? I'll be sure to post better pics when it's completely dried for people.

Was just wondering if anyone else put on a phantom skin for their DI...I am new at the whole "get your protector wet" application and am trying to figure out how long it takes for the moisture trapped in the screen to dissipate so it is clear. I really hope I didn't do it wrong, as it is mostly clear, but still pockets of a "cloudy" look.
