Jul 28, 2010When connecting my Evo to a computer, there is an "Internet Sharing" option. I am curious to know, does this cost extra monthly? I know the wifi tether is the extra $30 a month, but will this charge me the same?
I only have interest in rooting my phone if it's the only way to share internet with my Netbook. Wifi isn't all that important to me, and seeing as I've completely and utterly failed at doing the Unrevoked method for rooting... I'm hoping I won't actually have to root my phone after all.

However the reviews didn't know if there was an extra cost service plan associated with this. Are there other ways to tether. Things like pedant or other. Is rooting required?

Both programs start up correctly and allow me to enable to wifi tethering but I can't get any device to see the wifi connection they are creating. I have tried both scanning for the network and trying to manually connect to it by typing in the SSID but I can't get any device to see the network. I am using a Droid X with the official 2.2 update rooted.

Jul 27, 2010I know there was another thread on this topic that linked to the XDA forum but that thread is more about loading a specific kernel to enable AP Tether. I like Hydra's new kernels and you can do the same thing with them as well. I attempted to install the newest version of Wireless Tether from the market but it did not allow AP mode. So I found it's necessary, as verified elsewhere, to install the (wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre3.apk) version.
Once I did this and added the bin file, it worked great. WPA2 security is also included in this version. So to make it easy, I just created a zip that's already called Android.tether and has the required .apk and .bin already inside for AP Tether. This is not supported with the stock kernel, check to see if your kernel of choice supports it if you are in question. I can for sure verify the Hydra OCUV 1.113 ghz v0.8 kernels.

Aug 1, 2010I had wireless tether working before going to 2.2. Now it appears to be working on the phone, but on the computer it shows "Local Only". I tried uninstalling, rebooting then reinstalling... no luck with that.
Also, I am part of the Swype Beta. I had Swype resend the email when I updated to 2.2 and reinstalled. It works until I reboot my phone, then it goes into "tap only" mode. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Jan 19, 2013I have been trying to tether my Droid Incredible to my new Nexus 7 for the last 3 days and I'm completely exhausted on ideas. My Incredible is rooted with CM7 and I've use both Wireless Tether and Barnacle. Both are picked up by my laptop, but my Nexus 7 does not recognize either as an available network. My Nexus picks up every other wireless network I've thrown at it, but I'm completely baffled at this point.
