I am being told that an update for gmail is available, but when I download it and try to install it, the install fails.
I know the new version of virtous has an updated gmail but would rather not backup, install, etc

I received the alert to update Google Maps to 4.2, but everytime I try to install the update, I keep getting Update Unsuccessful (tried 5 times with resetting after each installation attempt). What could be the problem? Do I need to remove 4.1.1 first? I don't undertstand why I would as all other updates automatically replace the old/existing file. I emailed the developer, but no response has been received. Suggestions/fixes are welcome.And I'm still suffering from disappearing text conversations with stock messenging. I tried to download Handcent, and it wouldn't work. Oh well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedNexus 1, although seen many phones have this same issue also 32gig micro sd. Updates just dont happen like they should on automatic updates. The update progress bar just sits there and notice comes up "update unsuccessful" looked everywhere but this seemed to work fine.
1. Unmount SD
2. Go back to each download (market download)
3. Cancel download
4. Then it takes you to app. push install
5. Download restarts and installs fine
6. Then go back and remount SD under phone settings
7. Then go to phone settings, applications, manage apps,
8. Pick the apps you just installed and move them to the sd card if possible.
So the new 2.3 update to Gmail that's on the Market now isn't installing. I read somewhere that this could be a problem for root users and that we would need to use Titanium Backup to uninstall Gmail before installing it again.
Has anyone who ran into this problem successfully upgraded their Gmail using Titanium Backup or some other method? How is it done?
Running Ruby 1.1.1(and loving it), and saw the update on my downloads in the market. I update but when it installs, says update unsuccessful. I went into manage apps and cleared data and cache and tried again but no luck.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I randomly noticed today that Gmail 2.3 is available in the market, which is the highest version I've seen anywhere. It shows up in my list of downloads, but doesn't show as 'Installed.' I'm currently running 2.2.1 on rooted Inc.
When I click install, it says that it is unsuccessful. Do I need to remove 2.2.1 first, and then try to install? It doesn't give the "update" option. Just want to make sure uninstalling 2.2.1 won't cause any issues.
My Gmail account used to automatically update on my phone as soon as I would get a message. Now it seems like I have to go in and manually click "refresh" under settings to get it to update. Can anyone tell me how to set it up so your gmail inbox will update automatically once you receive a message?

I've noted that I cannot install the latest versions of Gmail and Google Maps from the Market.
After the whole download gets over, it gives me a message "Installation unsuccessful"
Edit: I've tried downloading the .apk. But installation of even that fails.
Has it anything to do with my custom ROM or with rooting? Can anybody suggest a workaround?
I am having a problem when I download games or try to update some games, the game will download just fine but when installing them I get the Installation unsuccessful error.bought MiniSquadron! and Baseball Superstars2010 awhile back installed just fine then and now I got to update it wont let me. No biggy because I still could play the games. But now I go to install Angry Birds, I can't play it because it fails. Its just really starting to annoy me. My brother girlfriend has an Inc and she installed Angry Birds just fine.Is anyone else having this problem? Should I just take it to Verizon so see how far that gets me?

We have other Incredibles without issue so I am thinking this one is defective as I just picked it up yesterday.
When I go to the market to update or install a new app, the download animation shows on the taskbar for a moment then goes away. When I go into the market to check on the downloads, the apps show a black status bar and will not download.
I've rebooted, hard-booted, canceled downloads and tried re-installing the apps. All with the same results. Every app I try to install and every app I try to update (google maps for example) will start then immediately say "Download Unsuccessful"
im not an expert on how push email works, but my understanding is that gmail messages should appear on my phone without me having to refresh or manually sync the gmail app. for a reason unknown to me, sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt. at night, i shut down wifi and the mobile network to conserve battery and start up the mobile network when i leave for work in the morning. i get notification of new yahoo email, thru the htc widget, almost instantaneously, yet gmail doesnt come thru until i manually sync the gmail app. then during the course of the day, sometimes gmail messages get pushed right thru and other times not at all until i manually sync the app. meanwhile my yahoo mail comes thru flawlessly.
considering gmail is supposed to push and the htc widget does not, this is the opposite of what i expect. as far as settings, i have auto sync enabled for both the device and for the gmail app. while i always assume user error until proven otherwise, in this instance i think i have all the correct settings, which makes sense considering sometimes gmail does get pushed. its just erratic and unpredictable. anybody got any ideas what's going on here?
i'm trying to add a 2nd gmail account through the gmail app. it goes through the entire process, goes to the sync page and allows me to select what i wish to sync up then gives me a confirmation that the account has been added but when i go to the gmail app and check accounts it still only lists the 1 original account. i've tried powering the phone off and restarting - also added the account via HTC email app and deleted the 2nd account via HTC email app just in case it was conflicting there

Before I updated, I would always receive emails from both of them and get a notification when they arrived. Now on email #2 I have to manually click "refresh" to get new emails, what happened?!
View 10 Replies View RelatedI know a lot of people have been having this problem AFTER updating to Froyo, but I haven't done the update yet and my Gmail just quit pushing about 2 days ago. I've had my Evo a little over a month and this is the first time this has been a problem. It's not even that it's just delayed, it will not push AT ALL without a manual refresh. Sometimes even the manual refresh doesn't bring up all of the most recent stuff.
I've tried hard and soft resets.
Deleted account and reinstated account.
I only have one Google account.
Google Calendar works.
GTalk is logged in and working.
Again, I know this has been a post-Froyo problem for many and Google is addressing it (according to another thread on here), but what about for those of us still on Eclair?
My gf's moment has been recently updated to the official 2.1 update, but ever since, she hasn't been receiving her gmail notifications. She has to manually update it.

Sim IS UNCHECKED but in dialer both are showing and in contacts/people google only shows until I want to search contacts all sim contacts show in the results, resulting in multiple numbers for one contact. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have my original gmail account "slaved" to my google apps account, so when I log in to user@gmail.com it displays my google apps user@domain.com as being logged in. For most things this is great, but now with the android phone there are some gotchya's First was the Market. I had to create yet another gmail account to buy anything off the market, because when I sign in to my 'gmail' account on my phone it signs me in as an apps user.
Second, is my google voice (attached to gmail) has its own set of contacts associated with my gmail account, and they are not synced with my google apps account. I was hoping the phone would sort of mesh them together, however I'm not seeing that. On my iPhone I was using soocial, however they recently stopped allowing unlimited contacts and their new free limit is below my number of contacts. Is there a way for the phone to keep these to contact lists "connected" and synced together?
