HTC Incredible :: Do The LCD Vs AMOLED Inc. Have A Different Model #?

I don't know if there has been anymore elaboration on the subject of the impending switch to LCD for the Incredibles or when it was supposed to go into effect, but I may or may not have stumbled onto something. I, finally, received my phone today. I haven't turned it on yet, as I have it sitting on the charger for another 3 hours. However, I did happen to flip through some of the booklets that came with the phone. If everyone could gather up their "Product Safety & Warranty Brochure," we can compare and see if there is a difference. On page 8 under the "Cleaning" bullet, it says "blah blah blah blah, but NEVER use water to clean the LCD screen." If any of you got your phones weeks or months earlier and it says "LED" for you, the switch may have already happened. As I said, I haven't turned the phone on yet and this is the only thing I have to go off of right now.

Hmmmm.... makes me wonder how long before our incredible Incredibles' follow. We could soon all be owners of a very rare breed though! Might increase re-sale value.

Win, but since we're all Android (or soon to be) here, a moment of silence.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have an Incredible and a friend just got the Evo. I also went to HTC's Evo launch party in NYC so I've had my fair share of time with it and I have to say, IMHO, I was shocked at the difference in AMOLED vs LCD.
I never really gave much thought to it and I always thought it wouldn't really make a difference but HOLY COW.
It was the first and glaring thing to me whenever comparing the phones. Everything from the home screen to widgets to photos, videos, web sites. It was quite dramatic. The LCD on the Evo always looked kind of washed out since I've become used to the AMOLED.
The viewing angles, crispness, deep blacks and color saturation on the AMOLED is a huge win for me.
This is a question for those proficient in photoshop/gimp/etc When making a wallpaper for the Inc and it's limited color gamut AMOLED screen what are/is the tools used to make them smooth not showing that ugly dithering (correct word?)? Here is an example below...it looks beautiful on my PC screen (H-IPS panel).

I've noticed that all of the official literature regarding the Incredible describes the screen as WVGA OLED -not AMOLED. Can a screen be OLED without AM (active matrix) technology - and if so, what will the difference be between the Incredible's screen and the N1's AMOLED display?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it me or are the super amoled screesn simply not as sharp as normal lcd screens such as the EVO or Droids?I am a stickler for a sharp screen and looking at the super amoleds seems like looking as font constructed from lego blocks. The resolution grid, if you will, is very obvious/visible and not very impressive.I noticed this first on the Droid Incredible and to a worst extent on the Samsung Galaxy S which I looked at yesterday.I am simply not very impressed at either of these screens and wonder if we will suffer the same visual fate in the event that a future superphone or even subsequent revisions of the EVO switches to the amoled screens. Sure the colors are great but if that means blocky font then I am not willing to take one step forward and two backward. To be honest I am completely satisfied with color on my EVO, just wished resolution was higher.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have searched the forums for this and did not find anything, but different sides and rants going off topic, so which screen is better?
A) Amoled
B) Super Lcd
On the Desire of course.
My dad has a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant with the Super Amoled screen and I could barley tell the difference between my Htc Desire with Slcd and his phone. The only difference I could see is his blacks were a tiny bit darker.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got my desire about 3 weeks ago and with a week i dropped it, shattered the digitiser and damaged the SLCD. I decided to "try" and do a self-repair - i bought a new digitixer and LCD (AMOLED). I know for sure that i had an SLCD as it wasn't branded samsung on the rear of the screen unlike its replacement which did. My problem is that the AMOLED won't work. my SLCD works fine (except the damaged pixels) so i know the handset itself is fine.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo battery life isn't a huge issue with me, but I want to use a live wallpaper. So my question is what color uses more power on an amoled screen? Black or white?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAre you kidding me ? Not only can I see this screen outside in the sunlight, I can see it outside in the sunlight WITH MY SUNGLASSES ON. Coming from the Dinc I had a very hard time seeing that screen in the sunlight. How could I ever go back to any other kind of screen? This SF reminds me of when I first started dating my wife. Wasn't the greatest when I first met her, but the more I got to know her the more I couldn't get enough of her.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a Nexus S phone with an amoled screen and I was wondering, is it possible to make it so that when the screen is turned off, a clock appears on the screen?
I remember some nokia phone that also had an amoled screen and that had a neat feature; whenever the screen was turned off, there was an always-on clock that'd show up, and since the clock was small and the rest of the screen stayed black, it didn't drain the battery.
I mean, that'd be a pretty cool thing to have on amoled android phones, no?
I searched many forums but there seems to be no clear way to identify the screen type other than by eye. Clue #1: The box has no mention of AMOLED. Clue #2: P/N is 99HKZ009-00 Clue #3: Made in China Clue #4: Unbranded, unlocked phone bought from a US retailer. My plan is to root. According to what I've read so far, the method depends on the type of screen, SLCD or AMOLED. I need to know for sure, so as not to brick the phone.

Does the Galaxy S look blue?
View 33 Replies View RelatedI bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy S on 8th October 2010 in Bangalore, India. two weeks later my screen developed a bright white line on the bottom. ( see pic attached ) I have not dropped or mishandled the phone in any way. I took it to the nearest samsung service centre... they told me that the display needs to be replaced ... They say that the phone display is out of stock and they dont know by when it will be available.
I feel really cheated ... after purchasing such an expensive phone one never expects it to malfunction in less than 2 weeks. And samsungs customer care reps very conveniently replied that they dont know when it will be in stock and to keep in touch via calls. So much for buying an amazing phone.
Seems like most phones these days have a gimmick. My Vibrant came with Avatar preloaded and it is stunning on the AMOLED screen.
I would be surprised if some movie weren't thrown in on the phone on launch.
Analogue to this one (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2788345/replacing-xml-in-file-from-document-in-java or http://www.exampledepot.com/egs/javax.xml.transform/WriteDom.html) I try to use it under Android. The problem is, that I can't use the suggested solution under android, because it throws java.lang.verifyError. After reading a little bit, I found out, that the class that was used to store the data to file, is not usable in android. can you suggest another solution, which is similar easy to use?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a widget that shows some data fetched from the Internet. I may have multiple widgets visible on the screen, each displaying some data, partly the same as the other widgets. From time to time I re-fetch the data from the Internet and update the widget views. I've modeled this in an MVC style: I have a model which I can invoke a "re-fetch-data" on, and which the views listen on. My questions:
A) Is it wise to let my model be a singleton?
B) Can I rely on that all widgets are served by the same AppWidgetProvider? Or may some of my widgets get served by a different AppWidgetProvider instance? Or, more generally: Is there any guarantee that there will be only one instance of my AppWidgetProvider? If there is only one instance of my AppWidgetProvider, then I could use an instance variable here for the model, and pass either my AppWidgetProvider or the model around where needed. Perhaps a better option?
C) In the AppWidgetProviders onUpdate method, can I be sure that the same "context" object is passed as argument each invocation?
How do I find the make and model of an Android device?
