HTC Incredible :: Disabling Predictable Text?
May 11, 2010I really don't like the predicted text. I have already sent messages where it changed what I was typing and I didn't notice.

View 3 RepliesMy application has some data which I would like to keep secure. I have also enabled the application to use text-to-speech. Unfortunately, the application writes out whatever it says to the log file. This means that a third party application (with permissions to access the logs) could gain access to the data. Is there any way I can disable Android logging the text to speech data?

I'm going to be traveling to S Korea and Japan next week. I'd like to use my DInc for wireless data when I have a wireless network available, but I don't want to get hit with any $100 roaming or international use fees. I think what I can do is turn airplane mode on while I'm abroad, and then enable wifi on top of airplane mode whenever I need it.

First thing I want to do is disable 2G/GSM and only use 3G/UMTS - I'm in central London and I have no need of swapping between the 2G/3G networks wasting battery. I can only disable 3G in settings.
I can't search these forums for "disable 2g" because "2g" is too short! "disable gsm" also nothing.
Google is also surprisingly light on results.
User opens app, they press a button and some activity launches. After the button is pressed and the activity is executed, I want to disable the button until the week starts over. Even if they close the app and come back, it should still be disabled unless it has reset.
For example, if they press the button on Monday, they should not be able to do it again until Sunday at 12:00 AM.
No matter what day they initially press the button, they should not be able to press again until the week starts over.
What would be the simplest way to do this in android? Should I have the program store the date and time they initially press, and then calculate the time until reset every time they open the app?
I am new to developing apps for android. But I am developing one now. As a part of the app I need to disable some SMS notifications. That is, when the app is running and I receive an SMS it shouldn't be displayed to the user. I need my app to intercept it before it goes to the inbox and handle accordingly. Please tell me how I have to proceed along these lines.
If I cannot intercept an SMS, is there a way to hide the notifications and notify only certain messages after reading their contents.
How do i disable the SoftKeyboard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am new to Android development and have trouble enabling / disabling the wifi & audio services. I get the appropriate manager instance using the getSystemService method. But I don't get any error when enabling wifi using:
wifiMgr.setWifiEnabled(true);
But the wifi is simply not turned on! Similarly I use
mAudio.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_SILENT);
or
mAudio.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_NORMAL);.....................
I have a rooted orange hero to mcr2.3 On the lockscreen, is there a way of disabling the graphic which goes across the screen? The graphic contains the time and the word orange etc. I would like an arty picture on my lockscreen but the time graphic spoils it. Catch my drift?

View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving an issue with Launcher Pro. I've got an EVO.Whenever I hit the Home key (the hard button) my EVO resorts back to the stock launcher/home screen. I have set it as the default via Home Switcher and it still has the Home key bug. Everything else works fine with LP as far as I can tell.I have tried un/reinstalling the app. I have restarted my phone and the 'Home Switcher' app doesn't offer any relief. Don't know what else to try at this point.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it true that the alarm doesn't work if the phone is switched off? It does with Nokias, and that's something I'm going to miss if I decide to switch to Androids...
Anyway, what's the best way to minimize battery consumption while the alarm is set? I guess I'd set the airplane mode, to disable all data connections, but what's the best way to make sure that all other applications are closed, so that battery is preserved and that I'm awaken only by the alarm, and not by notifications from other apps? Is there something like a 'sleep' or 'minimal' mode which disables all apps? Or shall I close them one by one before going to sleep? Would I need to download a task manager for that?
Anybody can tell me how to disable or remove the scrollbar property of a ListView.
I created a ListView like
1) ListView listview = new listView(context);
and i add an adapter in to the list
2) listview .setAdapter(listAdapter); //listAdapter is an adapter
here the list adapter size greater than one then scrollbar automatically come, but i want to display the contents with out scrollbar.
I am currently searching to set out an issue I encounter. > I am developing an Application on Android which have to download a lot > of data and then be unused for a while.

Being that we are constraint with screen space, I would like to hide the title bar on the WebView component?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have got my desire for a couple of weeks now. A fantastic device with a great if a little irritable OS that needs some love and care to achieve perfection
Anyay, I'm one of those obsessive people who don't like stuff just launching and running in my OS (be it my Windows, Linux, Android, Symbian or anything else) without a good reason. I always disable any non-essential processes and applications that may potentially slow down the system and/or drain the battery.
I have only installed a couple of apps to my Desire and did not do any "illegal" stuff with it (no rooting, hacking or any other syetem modifications).
I use Astro file manager and task viewer and this is what I see just after freshly starting the phone in Astro Process Manager:
- Open Source Plugin Manager - 21.23M
- Dialer - 35.02M
- Clock - 21.88M
- Google Partner Setup - 19.89M
- BlueTooth Share - 20.52M
- FM Radio - 20.11M
- Calendar - 21.98
- People - 20.93
- Android System - 48.88M
- Swype - 25.87M
- Footprints - 22.37M
- Updater - 20.27M
- Mail - 23.23M
- HTC Message Uploader - 19.86M
- My Uploads - 20.64M
- Google Mail - 21.52M
- Settings - 23.39M
- HTC Sense - 47.62M
- Messages - 23.30M
- ASTRO - 37.26M
Now isn't that a little TOO MUCH? Especially since I haven't used any of those apps/gadgets when starting the phone and neither do I use any of my "homescreens" to place anything there (except one where I put only links that I use most often).
After I kill all apps that I think are not essential I have ony about 6 of them running (Dialer, Android System, HTC Sense, Swype). I try to kill off "messages" but it restarts almost immediatelly. The system still runs perfectly well without all this stuff running in the background.
So what is the reason for all this stuff launching? Isn't it a good idea to keep the memory empty rather than load a bunch of apps that I'm not going to use?
There is that "startup task killer" app but I wonder if there is any way to set which tasks should start/not start upon phone start-up? Something like Windows process manager utility allowing to manually disable any start-up tasks you think are not necessary. That is getting quite annoying.
When the desire is first switched on it makes a loud sound as the second screen comes up.
Is there any way of switching this off.......as last time I switched it on at 0500 am in bed it woke the whole house up.
The HTC Hero is my first experience with a virtual keyboard. It takes some getting used to but I have adapted rather quickly - to the point that I actually like it better. The self-correcting feature is great. It catches nearly all my mistakes and fixes them on the fly.
However - I don't know if I've gotten better or my phone has gotten slower - but it seems to lag behind my typing now. I discovered that if I turn off the vibrate feedback feature that it speeds up considerably. I would think that anybody who gets really fast at typing on their Hero is eventually going to have to turn that off.
Is it possible to disable incoming calls?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know, is there a way to turn off calls (so the phone doesn't make or receive calls, they just go straight to voice mail, as if the phone was turned off) but still have 3g Internet turned on?
There are some days where I don't want any calls, and would just like to browse the Internet on my phone uninterrupted.
I've recently rooted and am looking at getting rid of that irratating 'Choose input method' in the notification bar every time I type something.
I use Swype and the other options are Google Voice Typing (which I can untick) but Samsung Keyboard is greyed out, meaning that every time I type something I get the choice of Swype or Samsung Keyboard.
I've frozen the Samsung keyboard and now I don't get the notification and also Swype starts up quicker. Good so far. The thing is, I'm wondering if when I restart my phone my PIN lock screen uses the Samsung Keyboard, in which case I won't be able to enter my PIN. (I've disabled my PIN for the time being as I'm too scared to find out!)
I've heard you can disable bloatware in ics, I've got a Samsung tab 2 7.0 and I don't see this option anywhere?
