Android :: Disabling A Button Until A Set Day
Nov 20, 2010
User opens app, they press a button and some activity launches. After the button is pressed and the activity is executed, I want to disable the button until the week starts over. Even if they close the app and come back, it should still be disabled unless it has reset.
For example, if they press the button on Monday, they should not be able to do it again until Sunday at 12:00 AM.
No matter what day they initially press the button, they should not be able to press again until the week starts over.
What would be the simplest way to do this in android? Should I have the program store the date and time they initially press, and then calculate the time until reset every time they open the app?

I am new to developing apps for android. But I am developing one now. As a part of the app I need to disable some SMS notifications. That is, when the app is running and I receive an SMS it shouldn't be displayed to the user. I need my app to intercept it before it goes to the inbox and handle accordingly. Please tell me how I have to proceed along these lines.
If I cannot intercept an SMS, is there a way to hide the notifications and notify only certain messages after reading their contents.

I am new to Android development and have trouble enabling / disabling the wifi & audio services. I get the appropriate manager instance using the getSystemService method. But I don't get any error when enabling wifi using:
wifiMgr.setWifiEnabled(true);
But the wifi is simply not turned on! Similarly I use
mAudio.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_SILENT);
or
mAudio.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_NORMAL);.....................

Having an issue with Launcher Pro. I've got an EVO.Whenever I hit the Home key (the hard button) my EVO resorts back to the stock launcher/home screen. I have set it as the default via Home Switcher and it still has the Home key bug. Everything else works fine with LP as far as I can tell.I have tried un/reinstalling the app. I have restarted my phone and the 'Home Switcher' app doesn't offer any relief. Don't know what else to try at this point.

I have 3 email applications on my GarminAsus A50:
> Default email client
> Gmail
> K9 email client
All three have been setup with email accounts.
Is there a way to set K9 as my preferred email app? Because everytime I receive an email, I get three sets of notifications (one from each app)
For the moment I've disabled the email notifications from Gmail and the default mail, but they still run in the background checking for messages which is really just a waste of CPU power and battery life.
Anything to keep them from running at all?

I have written code to enable and disable various things programatically like Wifi, Ringer modes, Airplane modes. All things that you would see in a power toggle widget. The one that I have not found out how to do is bluetooth. It appears that in SDK level 3 (OS 1.5) there is no pretty bluetooth manager class. Has anyone pinpointed any good source examples on enabling and disabling bluetooth that will also be forwards compatible with users running 2.0 (Droid) / 2.1 (Nexus)? I have found a few partial examples in my google searches that I could not get to actually run.

I'm pretty new to the Android scene but currently have a UK Hero 1.5 on Orange. I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I want to be able to go straight to the full website rather than be directed to the mobile version when loading a site in the Dolphin browser. I cannot see it in any of the setting menus.

I've got an EditText that I don't want spelling suggestions for since it's just a user name input field.
I've tried setting autoText to be "false" but when I start typing in the EditText with the soft keyboard I am still provided with spelling suggestions. I've also tried setting inputType to be "none" however that doesn't help either.
What's the correct way to disable this functionality (in XML or in code) so that no spelling suggestions are provided?

I d/l the Shapewriter Keyboard so I can swipe while texting, but I need to disable the Android keyboard for it to work. The problem is that I can't find where to disable it.
I am using Android 1.5 and I read on a post that I need to go through Settings/Locale & Text and there should be an option to disable the Android Keyboard, but there isn't. Even after I install the Shapewriter Keyboard the only keyboard showing is the default.

Anyone know of a widget or app or something that will disable the stock music player? Nothing is worse than starting the car and the phone immediately hijacking the audio and starting to play a ringtone or something. The stock media player is awful. I hope they have something better in the works.

Is there a app or a way to not have a call come through my cell when listening to Pandora or some other audio app? This happens frequently and it's a pain in the ass to get back to normal after I send the call to voicemail. I'd like to have it where incoming phone calls don't interrupt audio streaming. I have a Samsung Moment.

Does anyone know how to do this correctly? I can't find any examples & the API documentation is pretty hard to follow.I am guessing I need to use the KeyGuardManager and PowerManager... but can't figure out how to bring my activity up past the keyguard and re-enable the keyguard so my activity doesn't let someone get past the lock when my activity awakens.

We would like to enable or disable widgets via code. When we say "disable" we mean that a widget which is registered in an application should not show up in the list of widgets available to the user when they try to add a widget to their home screen. This question has been asked, unfortunately, many times without answer. There was one response by Dianne Hackborn to a separate widget question which suggested that it was possible to use the package manager to disable widgets.

Can i turn this blasted widget off?The skipping is not down to the Headphones issue on this one, i've solved that.

I have an app which displays a large amount of text for the user to read. I've found that when reading while lying down, I get annoyed that the screen rotates even though my head and the screen are aligned. I do not want to set this to be permanently in portrait mode, so I think this would preclude an approach of setting the android:screenOrientation="portrait" in the manifest. Ideally, I would like to enable/disable automatic orientation changes via a preference page.
