HTC Incredible :: Broken LCD - How To Retrieve Photos From Onboard Memory
Aug 10, 2010
I'm trying to help my gf with a phone issue with her Droid Incredible. Her screen recently stopped working, so we took it into the Verizon store and she got a warranty replacement. We still have her old phone (it must be returned within 10 days), and I was hoping I might be able to retrieve her photos from the onboard memory.
She does have an SD card, but she only installed it a few days prior to this incident, so I assume her photos were being stored to the onboard memory prior to this.
The phone appears to still be functional except for the screen... It still rings when it receives calls (but can't answer them), still beeps for text messages, etc., and when I hook it up to a computer via USB, two inaccessible disk drives appear.
The problem, as far as I can tell from reading online, is that the onboard memory can't be accessed unless you click "Disk mode" [or whatever it's called] on the phone after plugging it in, and if you don't click this option, it defaults to "Charge Only".

I just purchased my first Android phone (HTC Incredible from Verizon). It has 8G internal memory. My microSD only has 2G and it's almost full. Many of the apps I've downloaded require the SD so I'd like to transfer my pic's and music from the SD to the onboard memory. However I've been unable to figure out how to do that.

My sitch is this: My HTC Incredible has broken screen and digitizer. Otherwise the phone seems to power up and work. I have all my pictures stored on the internal memory (boo). Is there any way to get to the internal memory given that I can't set the phone to USB Debugging mode? Is there an app that I can install on my pc that will allow me to "press buttons" on the phone? I have installed DroidExplorer and I can see the phone, and the sync works... But thats it.

My Incred is on an infinite loop on all the startup screens. Just keeps saying droid and then the HTC brilliant screen and such over and over. This is the 2nd time it happened to me. First was replaced at no cost to me though some inconvenience. Problem is I have some pics/vids on the phone memory that I would like to grab before returning the phone again. Can anybody think of a way I could accomplish this? Would a verizon tech be any help? Just a few vids of my son that I would prefer to keep. Nothing life changing. I plugged the phone into the computer and looked for the drives on 'my computer'. They were listed but empty. I guess the phone keeps rebooting before they can be populated with stuff. Any shot of me getting a DX in replacement? Love my Dinc but have screen (size) envy.

I am needing to recover text messages from a damaged phone to be able to present as evidence. The phone is a Motorala Razr Maxx HD. The screen is broken and the battery has been disconnected. I am hoping for maybe some program that will allow my to plug it into my computer and pull my old text messages off of it or any other ideas on how to retrieve the files.

This phone was my dads until he got a new one, but he only has a limited amount of time to retrieve the data before it goes back to T-mobile or else he has to pay money for the broken phone core. It was dropped, and broke the digitizer but not the screen. As of now, the display doesn't work at all, but I can hear the phone turn on just fine. I have been trying to think of how I can access the internal storage without tearing the phone apart and getting to the storage directly(not sure if that would work either).
- Model Number SGH - T989
- Not rooted
- USB debugging not enabled. I thought I might be able to get to the storage via adb, but that will be useless without usb debugging activated.

I just downloaded Astro, so I could move a few of my pics from my Onboard drive to my SD card. When I select move, and go to the SD card and select paste it gives me an error. I can move from one directory on my Onboard Drive to another Directory on my Onboard drive. I can also Move from one directory to another on my SD Card. But I can't move from my Onboard Drive to SD Card, or vice versa. Anybody else having this problem? Is there another file manager I can get that'll do this?

Maybe this is more of an android question, not sure, but here it goes: so the incredible has 6+ gb of onboard storage, primarily for media. if i buy a micro sdhc card (say 8 gb), will the music/video player apps see both storage devices and merge all songs/videos into 1 selection screen, or is it like a real computer/os and i have to swap folders/drives? if it's the former, will it be seemless? what happens to play lists? can i have a play list that spans on-board songs and songs stored on the card?

Just yesterday my several month old galaxy S4 suddenly shut off. As this has happened several times before, I attempted to restart it but with no luck even with a new battery and being plugged into the charger. Verizon advised me that there may be an internal issue. Any way to retrieve photos from a phone with these issues, if it wont turn on and there is no SD card. Also the phone is password protected.

My SGSII(AT&T)'s screen stopped working so they're sending me a new (or refurbished) one and then I have to send them mine. So is there any way to wipe the memory or factory reset the device (which is rooted but still has the stock rom) without the use of the screen? Also, when I plug it into my computer it doesn't appear in Computer (although the computer does know it's been plugged in by the sound it makes, maybe it's set to Charge Only even though I always had it set to data transfer).
How do you wipe a galaxy s 4g with broken screen.

Is there a way to retrieve the free memory, total memory and maximum memory of other applications/processes using my application? I use Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory() but it can only retrieve your current application... If there's somehow a method where I can just input their PIDs or Package Names like "Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory ().packageName" for example.. Here's my code...

It seems that on the Incredible the startForeground() call is non- functional, causing my process to be put into the background scheduler class even though it has an active ongoing notification. I'm calling it the same as on other 2.x devices (through reflection as suggested by Diane for backward-compatibility), and this works fine on the Droid, with the same OS level (2.1-update1). I can see in the debugger that it gets all the way to ActivityManagerNative.setServiceForeground() with the notification param being non-null, so it's got to be in the ActivityManager or below.
The really telling thing is that the stock music player acts the same way. When I'm playing a song and go to the home screen the com.htc.music process goes into the bg class, even though its notification is still active. This is a real problem for us, as it denies us the CPU we need to play back music in some cases without stuttering. Any ideas on whether this is getting fixed, and how I might work around it?

I dropped my phone and broke the screen underlying the glass. Over the course of the next few hours the screen turned black. I would like to get some of the pictures off of the phone I took but i don't know how to do that. The phone still turns on you just can't see anything and when i try to connect it to the computer it sees the E and F drives but won't allow me to access them.

I rooted and tried 2 roms, then went back to my original setup I had on my own but with root and tether. Now the android market has stopped working. Any suggestions? Or a place to get a full backup that would put me back to 100% stock so I can bring the phone into a verizon store if I need.
I used clockworkmod for all roms and restores. I did the wipe data and cache etc before loading roms or restoring from nand.
