I am on a Verizon family plan. My line is not due for an upgrade for a long time, but another line on the family plan is (just a standard flip phone). my question is: Can I use the other (flip phone) upgrade to get my self a new incredible WHILE leaving the flip phone a standard, non data line? When i go to purchase online using the upgrade, it makes me choose a data plan.

Not sure if everyone is aware, but you can actually take pictures just by touching the screen on where you want to focus and holding your finger there for about a second...I find it more useful than using the optical trackpad button.

She wants to transfer the upgrade from her dad's line (they're on a family plan) to her number, but whenever we try to do that on the Verizon website it doesn't stick.Is there a way to permanently transfer the upgrade to her number? Otherwise, could I order the Incredible under her dad's number, and then activate it with her number once we get it? I've heard mixed answers as to whether or not Wirefly/Sears Wireless will charge an ETF for this action.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got fed up with my music player constantly skipping/phone lag on my Eris and got a VZW manager to approve a early upgrade for me. I was thinking should I go with the Droid Incredible? I wanted some current owner's opinions before I drop $200 on it.
Currently I mainly use my phone for:
1. Texting- I send at least 80 texts a day.
2. Web Surfing- I spend a lot of time on-line google, news..etc
3. Picture taking- I love to snap photos of friends and travels.
4. Talking- I maybe use 500 min a month if that. I text a lot due to working in a call center.
5. Mp3 player- i use my phone in the car and at work prob 45 hours a week
Considering these points do you think it would be wise to choose the Incredible or do you think my issues with the Eris could haunt me again on the Sense UI altogether? Any input is welcomed and appreciated guys.
When I reboot in recovery, it looks like my HBOOT version in .77. Someone in one of the threads mentioned that .77 and .79 were floating around as the safe options. How can I upgrade HBOOT versions, and with everything running fine, is there any benefit to upgrading? I'm running unrevoked forever, second wave rom, and newest radio leak if that matters.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got my "dinc" in early August with 2.1 onboard and recieved the OTA froyo upgrade about two weeks ago. I like 2.2 (I think) but not all the battery-vampire crap-apps that came with it. I desparately want to root so that I can explore the full potential of this phone and hopefully find some options to extend my battery and get rid of the bloatware.
Unrevoked's website says v3.2 has been temporarily pulled and to use v2.2 "in the meantime". I've tried several of the methods that call for 3.2 using 2.2 and it seems to work up to the reboot step towards the end. Each time I get this "failed to flash recovery image" message. I've followed every detail of several videos and posts (including one from this forum) instructing how to root with Unrevoked, but the end result is always the same.
1. Can I use Unrevoked to root my phone with the froyo upgrade in place?
2. If so, how? Because what I've been trying ain't gettin' it done.
3. If not, is there a way to roll-back to 2.1 so that I can use Unrevoked?
4. Could the 2.2 version of Unrevoked be casuing my "failed flash" issue?
I'm having some issues with the Gmail after upgrading my DINC to Froyo using the Leaked RUU. On 2.1, the second I got an email, it showed up in my Gmail inbox (no notification, but that wasn't a big deal, i just manually checked it) anyway, now its not doing that, and I have to manually refresh Gmail, which is annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know how to get around it?

But now it has me thinking again. Is it really a good time to upgrade? I feel like the Incredible is starting to phase out a little (Or thats the feeling I get from some people) and I wonder if maybe I should just wait for the next HTC phone, or if this is the perfect time to upgrade.Im still unsure if I can do a 1 year plan(I need to talk to a VZN rep) instead of a 2 year plan, but if I can I would be a little more comfortable upgrading from my dinky LG Dare right now. I didn't root the phone or apply any other update except for that one. Obviously I need to downgrade what I did to the stock. I downloaded SDK and will attempt to follow this:

I know that there is a wait for these phones to upgrade when Android has a version upgrade for their OS. If I were to remove the Sense UI from the phone would it be possible to upgrade immediately when a release is available? Take, for example, the Droid Eris. Would it be possible to disable/remove the Sense UI and install Android 2.1 and not have to wait? Or is Sense embedded in the phone to where that's not possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI came from a Moto RZR a few months ago to be an early adopter of the Nexus 1. Soon found that tMobile didn't cut it coverage wise so I returned it. However, I really loved the OS and so I decided to wait for the N1 to come to VZW.Not being able to wait for the N1 I bought an Eris for $10 and signed up for a 2-yr contract. During the couple months or so with the Eris I flashed both leaks. My Eris was working very good indeed with few problems.I then pre-ordered and received the Incredible today. It is a sweet phone however, this is the point I want to make. Once the official 2.1 is available, the Eris is and will continue to be one fine phone. If speed is your cup of tea then upgrade but just realize you'll be able to do the exact same thing on your Eris so think twice before you take the plunge.This is in no way a buyer's remorse statement as I really wanted the speed and it is nice to have everything functioning as it should. I'm sure there will be problems. Remember, the Eris will work just as well in the future minus the speed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I first bought my incredible, I was ecstatic about how well it performed and everything that it did. Aside from downloading a few apps, I had no desire to augment or root it.
When the 2.2 ROM came out, I have to admit, I was hesitant about installing it because I figured "why mess with a good thing" but my phone was insistent. Every time I unlocked it, it was telling me to upgrade, so finally I did.
I've been miserable ever since.
Apparently this new ROM made the touch screen extra sensitive. So much so that when I hold it (I am LEFT handed) it is constantly thinking I'm touching the home button and responds accordingly. This is because the way I hold it, the thumb side of my hand is near the home button and though it's not pressing it, just being near it, beside it, etc, is enough to trigger it. Even plugging in the phone to charge or link to the computer causes the home button to go crazy.
In addition to this, the camera, which I was so pleased with and took excellent pictures all the time under any circumstance, has now become sub-par. I don't care about 720dp video, I care about taking great pictures, which my Incredible used to do, but now it has problems with lighting, I'm constantly having to adjust the ISO instead of leaving it at automatic, and whereas it used to do fine with people in motion, now these shots are blurry 100% of the time.
This has led me to the conclusion that I need to somehow get my phone back to the 2.1 ROM.
Now, I've searched the forums and I've found two sets of instructions that seem to both be getting me to what I want.

Considering I've never rooted my phone at any point and I'm trying to get back to the original 2.1 (unrooted) Incredible ROM that came with my phone, I was wondering which set of instructions is for me (or is there another I have not seen).
I also wanted to make sure that PB31IMG.zip is the ROM I'm looking for as both reference that same file. I want to make sure this will get me back to the original 2.1 where I want to be.
My second question is this, once I get back to 2.1, how do I keep my phone from wanting the upgrade? I do not want to go to 2.2 and if I recall, when the prompt came up, I only had the option to "Install Now" or "Install Later"... there was no "Do Not Install" option.
I would like to go back to 2.1 and STAY THERE without being pestered to upgrade every 5 minutes!
Just so you know, though I've never rooted a phone before, I'm not skittish about this process, I'm a network administrator, I've hacked windows mobile phones before and though this is Linux, I'm confident that given instructions, I can follow them correctly. In addition, I'm not the least bit concerned about the potential of losing all my data or apps or even "bricking" my phone. I know it's a risk and I'm prepared to take it.
I have seen several posts noting problems requiring a hard reset. I myself had to do this, as I couldn't always answer the phone (swipes were simply ignored about 70% of the time) and the weather widget was out, too. Had to hard reset and, from what I hear, so have many others. Why is this? I called HTC, who called what Verizon did "buggy".

I removed a flashlight app that I had installed from the market. I restarted several times. Tried removing the battery for 15 minutes. All no help. any suggestions. Everything else seems to work properly.

I am getting an error that says I am not using the same device registered at beta.swipe.com. I have tried all the suggestions on their faq page ( closing programs, deleting and downloading, etc.) To no avail. Anyone got any Ideas? I can't type on this thing anymore without it!

View 1 Replies View RelatedUnless I'm crazy I remember being able to create custom field labels for the phone and email info in the original people app (all contacts are Google type) on my Incredible. If I created them on my phone; they showed up in my Gmail contacts. If I created them in Gmail contacts; they showed up on phone.
Now all I see on the people app label options are the standard ones with no option to edit/create a cutom as there was before. Is this the case after 2.2? If so I'd rather have 2.1 back. I loved that feature! Anyone else see this on their DINC?
I've been really happy with my Incredible since it came out.I even got a new stereo for my car, an Alpine CDE-102, because I was able to plug my phone into it and it would start playing my music off the SD card.
Today I updated, and now my stereo does not detect the files on the SD card.I think it is only looking at the phone storage.Was the phone storage given some kind of higher priority in the update? Is there any way to keep my phone storage from being mounted?
Is there any way to hook a plugin in the default SMS messaging application so that it invokes our code for sending SMS. Can our app become an alternate SMS sender for default Messaging sending operations.
