HTC Incredible :: Reverting To Stock 2.1 ROM - Preventing Upgrade To 2.2

Sep 4, 2010

When I first bought my incredible, I was ecstatic about how well it performed and everything that it did. Aside from downloading a few apps, I had no desire to augment or root it.

When the 2.2 ROM came out, I have to admit, I was hesitant about installing it because I figured "why mess with a good thing" but my phone was insistent. Every time I unlocked it, it was telling me to upgrade, so finally I did.

I've been miserable ever since.

Apparently this new ROM made the touch screen extra sensitive. So much so that when I hold it (I am LEFT handed) it is constantly thinking I'm touching the home button and responds accordingly. This is because the way I hold it, the thumb side of my hand is near the home button and though it's not pressing it, just being near it, beside it, etc, is enough to trigger it. Even plugging in the phone to charge or link to the computer causes the home button to go crazy.

In addition to this, the camera, which I was so pleased with and took excellent pictures all the time under any circumstance, has now become sub-par. I don't care about 720dp video, I care about taking great pictures, which my Incredible used to do, but now it has problems with lighting, I'm constantly having to adjust the ISO instead of leaving it at automatic, and whereas it used to do fine with people in motion, now these shots are blurry 100% of the time.

This has led me to the conclusion that I need to somehow get my phone back to the 2.1 ROM.

Now, I've searched the forums and I've found two sets of instructions that seem to both be getting me to what I want.

One is
How to downgrade and root your DInc from 2.2 |

The other is
Unroot - The Incredible List

Considering I've never rooted my phone at any point and I'm trying to get back to the original 2.1 (unrooted) Incredible ROM that came with my phone, I was wondering which set of instructions is for me (or is there another I have not seen).

I also wanted to make sure that PB31IMG.zip is the ROM I'm looking for as both reference that same file. I want to make sure this will get me back to the original 2.1 where I want to be.

My second question is this, once I get back to 2.1, how do I keep my phone from wanting the upgrade? I do not want to go to 2.2 and if I recall, when the prompt came up, I only had the option to "Install Now" or "Install Later"... there was no "Do Not Install" option.

I would like to go back to 2.1 and STAY THERE without being pestered to upgrade every 5 minutes!

Just so you know, though I've never rooted a phone before, I'm not skittish about this process, I'm a network administrator, I've hacked windows mobile phones before and though this is Linux, I'm confident that given instructions, I can follow them correctly. In addition, I'm not the least bit concerned about the potential of losing all my data or apps or even "bricking" my phone. I know it's a risk and I'm prepared to take it.

HTC Hero :: Reverting To Stock 2.1

Nov 12, 2010

While due to being very happy with my VillainROM 2.1 ROM working extremely well on my sim-free Hero since I downloaded it.

I'm now at the position where I have a sim-free Desire Z winging its way to me in the post. So ...

I want to revert my Hero to stock 2.1 (from HTC I guess), so that I can sell it before Christmas.

Is it simply a case of downloading the official 2.1 ROM from HTC and installing it using the HTC Sync app? Anything I should watch out for?

Motorola Droid :: Reverting Back To Stock

Apr 30, 2010

So I just purchased an incredible (couldn't resist lol).. And now I am trying to sell my droid on ebay (if anyone is interested let me know!), but whenever I used RomManager to revert back to stock image. I get an error and it fails. I have already ported my number over to my incredible, so I can only use wifi. So what other way is there to go back to stock so I can wipe the device and sell it. Or is there some other way that I am not thinking of? Something on the phone, like stock image I can flash through clockwork recovery and be done? (if so anyone have a link?)

KitKat 4.4 :: Nexus 4 - Reverting Back To 4.3?

Dec 2, 2013

Some issues are correctable through doing a factory wipe. Other issues can be corrected through reloading the image from Google's own factory image repository. However, some things (in particular the battery drain issue) seems to be an issue within 4.4 itself, and the only solution I've found has been to revert from 4.4 to 4.3.

So I'm posting this thread and asking the more knowledgeable users here on AndroidForums to post clear, concise directions for acquiring and flashing these devices back to the Google "factory image".

The reason I'm asking for the community to pitch in is that the instructions I've seen are kind of scattered, are not necessarily up to date, and they can and do vary depending on whether you're doing this with Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, or with Mac OS X, or with Linux.

I was able to re-flash my Nexus 4 in Lion back to 4.3, but I had to do editing of bash shell scripts and even then had to issue the execution of the appropriate shell script from the exact right spot or else it couldn't find the command, or couldn't execute the command. The directions on Google's site were incomplete, and the ones I found on various message boards seemed more like an author's "best guess" than authoritative "you can trust that this will work" workflows.

HTC EVO 4G :: System Panel App Preventing Email Notifications

Jul 12, 2010

I downloaded System Panel, and its cool as hell I really like it. But after a day went by I noticed I stopped receiving email notifications. So I assumed System Panel was the culprit. So I proceeded to uninstall it and voila, I'm getting email alerts again. So I reinstalled it and made sure all the HTC system services were under exclusion, because I thought that maybe I killed the app that handles the email notifications. Well after reinstall and making sure that all the critical HTC system services were set to exclusions, It started again. No email notifications. What am I doing wrong? The EVO is my first Android Phone and I really like System Panel. I just want them to play nice together. My 24 hours are up so I cant request a refund. But If I cant figure it out I will accept the 3.00 dollar loss and go back with ATK.

Android : Preventing WakeLock Under-Locked Exception

Feb 4, 2010

I'm trying to implement a times WakeLock in my Application, so this is not a Service.

I want the wakelock to simply prevent screen dimming for 3 min. Looking through the docs, this seems simple enough, but I seem to randomly encounter a Under-Locked exception that I cannot pinpoint.

Here is my WakeLock-related code:

in onCreate: PowerManager pm = (PowerManager) getSystemService(Context.POWER_SERVICE); mWakeLock = pm.newWakeLock(PowerManager.SCREEN_BRIGHT_WAKE_LOCK, TAG); // Adjust time to include user's setting int timeout = WAKELOCK_TIME - Settings.System.getInt(getContentResolver(), SCREEN_OFF_TIMEOUT, 0); if (timeout > 0) {mWakeLock.acquire(timeout);} ...

in onDestroy: if (mWakeLock != null && mWakeLock.isHeld() == true) { try { As you can see, I wrap the release and try to only execute it when necessary as a clean up only. I'm assuming that since I'm aquiring with a timeout, the PowerManager will handle the release in most cases when the timeout expires.

I don't have a copy of the logcat at the moment, but what seems to happen is I get the Under-Locked exception randomly, and at random times (it's not always when WAKELOCK_TIME elapses). The strange thing is that the exception does not point to my code - all the entries point to "internal" Android code.

It's hard to find examples of other people using aquire with timeouts. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong here?

General :: Preventing Apps From Auto Starting

Sep 19, 2011

I use the app called "System" and it lists about a dozen apps that are stored in my cache or that are using memory when I have not innitiaited the service or app...

I'm most familiar with computers so I'll relate it to that; is there some type of command line that I can use to stop some of these apps from auto start and being stored. For instance on windows you can 'msconfig' what programs are allowed to start on boot up.

Here is a list of apps that I want to stop: AccuWeather.com, Android Booster, Google Voice, HeyTell, Amazon's Appstore, Market, Music, etc.

Most are cached/ inactive but none the less in my task manager when freeing up memory when I notice things to be lagging I'd imagine these to be guilty. Android Booster always lists these as killed apps as well when optimizing...

Im familiar somewhat with how android works being that it often fills a large portion of your memory with what it wants to and frees space as it is needed but these apps for me are rarely used...

Im big on battery life being Im in and out of Sales accounts and rely on my phone heavily so I dont want these things running in the background sucking up resources. Not to mention I like a snappy phone...

Also, I know their are app freezers and applications you can program to kill apps at a set interval but again I would like the least amount of garbage running as I can .....
