HTC Incredible :: Add "we'll" To Custom Dictionary?
Jun 28, 2010
Am I losing my mind, or is it not possible to add words with apostrophes into the custom dictionary? The key word here is "we'll." I use that word all the time, and for that word not to be a suggested word when you type "well" is balls-out crazy. Oddly, on plain Android 2.1, if you type "well," the first suggestion you get is "we'll." Yet, on HTC Sense, there is no "we'll." And to make matters worse, you cannot add it Why? This is just like the "ill" and "I'll" relationship. HTC Sense has "I'll," and in fact, will default to "I'll" if you start a sentence with "ill." But nothing for "well."

I have about a million words that need correcting in my Custom Dictionary but editing the damn thing is nearly impossible. Why can't they implement a way for us to make multiple selections instead of scrolling us all the way back to the top of the list upon deleting an entry? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Hey guys I was curious if there was a way to delete the custom dictionary from my HTC EVO. I have accidentally added words in there that I misspell all the time and now have to go back and manually fix them.

I've got a few custom words in my text messaging dictionary (I'm using Handcent SMS) and some of them are accidental additions from the early days of my Hero when my on-screen keyboard skills were a bit epileptic! How can I delete individual words from my dictionary?

Is it possible to create a custom dictionary for an edittext? In other words, can I create a custom list and have the edittext only suggest names from that list? I don't need it popping up useless word suggestions when the user is inputting specific names of people.

With my BlackBerry Storm there was a (I think it was called) a custom dictionary. I was able to type something like "OMW=On My Way" in a text message and it would substitute the words "On My Way" for the letters "OMW". Is there such a feature for the Droid with your application?

I'm running Ginger Villain 3.3 (16-10) on a HTC desire and I've had some rather odd incidents with the Danish dictionary.
Is it possible to update it to a working version? EG:
I tried to write "spiser" (eat) but it suggested "spiser r" (Sophagus)
When I wrote "klokken" (at) it suggested klokkesl t" (time)
It changes simple every day words into complicated - rarely used words.

I have words in my dictionary that I want to remove, like "git". I checked my user dictionary but its not there. Can anyone else point me to where I can remove this entry? Also, when typing "Yahoo", the suggestions have a bunch of Asian characters next to "Yahoo". Does anyone know how to fix this?

I'm wondering how to add words to the dictionary (aside from going into menu>settings>language & keyboard) like I used to be able to with my droid. If i was texting along and came to a word that wasn't in the dictionary, I could just long press and then select "add to dictionary". Well this phone doesn't have that option and so I'm wondering if I'm just missing it or what..?

I know that to delete words I've manually input into Swype is simply to highlight, hit the swype button and delete, but what about words that come in the Swype dictionary? For instance, I often mistakenly put in the word "Urea" when I want to say, "Yea." I don't see myself every needing the word "Urea," so I want to delete it from the Swype dictionary, but I can't seem to figure it out because it's not a word I made Swype learn, it's a word that came with Swype. Any way to fix this?

I gave up waiting for the official update so decided to take matters into my own hands. Right now I have s-off, 2.15 radio and running wave 3 Rom. So far so good! Just had a few questions.
1. Is there a way to restore my user defined dictionary? What about bookmarks?
2. My phone does not seem Any faster. Is that normal? Browser seems to scroll slightly slower - maybe due to flash?
3. Are any of the HTC elements safe to restore from my titanium backup?
4. When I installed adrynalyns wave 3 Rom did it install a kernel as well?

While using the predictive text in the DINC I sometimes want to type something that isn't a word like an acronym or some abbreviation. Predictive text will suggest a word close to what I am typing but I don't want that. It offers exactly what I am typing as an option but then it adds that text to the dictionary. Sometimes that's great but most of the time I want to simple use the term once and not add it to to dictionary. If I type space it will change my text. If I select the offered override it adds the text to my dictionary. How do I just keep what I am typing?

I know that this phone is not released but as this is the phone I am planing to get as an WM Rom creater I am wondering what would you like to have in a custom rom for this phone. If the stats are correct then it will not be a size issue altho my belief is that the less amount to serch is the faster OS. So my question is what would you want in a custom rom...?

I'm on Myn's Warm 2.2 and Andrynalyne's kernel and still got the OTA nag. Didn't accept it.
I didn't get the update for 2.2 when on a custom Rom and I could see it continually failing when running a logcat. Gonna need some sort of workaround it seems.

I am going with Skyraider 3.3.3, I have booted up and am in set up, all seems well. Hopefully this will work perfectly, but just got the update notification.

From what I understood back before ICS there was no way to add another input language dictionary to an already compiled version of android on a phone. So most keyboards with multilingual support have separate language packs which can be downloaded optionally. However, this means you had to choose to use a keyboard other than the built in Android keyboard.
Now that ICS is out I flashed it on my Nexus S and noticed there are add-on dictionaries in the Language & input setting in Android Keyboard under "Keyboard & Input Methods" (click the 3 sliders to your right) and then towards the bottom under "Text correction" clicking on add-on dictionaries brings up a page with all available. Some are installed and some can be installed. Unfortunately none with the language I want.
how do I add another add-on dictionary and has this issue been fixed in the new Android ICS 4.0?Here is some additional info I found over the months of FroYo and GB input language dictionary issue: URL...

After a few weeks of being rooted, getting rid of bloatware, etc., I decided to give Virtuous 3.1 a try, and downloaded it to my SD card using ROM Manager. I backed up all data in apps that had their own backup utilities and made a Titanium backup and then a nandroid in clockworkmod. After reading a number of threads, I figured ROM Manager should be OK for installing Virtuous, so I selected "install from SD", navigated to the correct file, and checked the backup and wipe options (I already had a nandroid, but figured another backup couldn't hurt). Anyway, for about 10 minutes, all I saw was a mildly disgruntled-looking android figure and a triangle with an exclamation point, which from my reading isn't what is supposed to happen.
I finally pressed the power button and it went into ClockworkMod Recovery with the following message (below the menu):
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.5
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid argument)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I used ClockworkMod Recovery to reboot, and everything seems normal, no data lost or anything - but what did I do wrong?

I am attempting to do an IME and am wondering the best way to use the main dictionary for the suggestions to work? Using the User Dictionary is pretty straight forward, but I am not sure how to use the main dictionary. The System IME appears to use BinaryDictionary and a native method to do this? Can I piggy back on this or must I create my own implementation?

I had a G1 for a while and never had problems adding words to the T9 dictionary. Now i have a HTC Hero and can't find any way of adding words to the phone keypad T9 dictionary. I used to start a word, then click the drop down arrow, then press "add word", but it appears that this option is non-existent on the Hero. Is this because i was using the "Chinese imput" input option or have they just moved this on the Hero.
