HTC Incredible :: 3g Dropping Out / How To Fix?
Jul 14, 2010
Noticed my 3g dropping out to 1x a lot. Happens all the time at work, my signal isn't very good here. I know this was a problem on the nexus one, just curious if anyone else had this problem. I tried a reset and the*228 option 2.

Anyone else having an issue with their WiFi dropping at random times? I'm about 25' from my Verizon router, so signal strength isn't an issue. I don't even know when it's happening most of the time. I only realize because opening a page or downloading something is slow. I have the Sleep Policy set to Never, so it's not that. The strange thing is is I go into Wireless Settings, as soon as I click on Wireless, it picks the router back up and reconnects. I have several other devices on WiFi here and they are all working perfectly fine.

I live in an area where I had GREAT reception on my Blackberry... since switching to the Incredible, I have a really hard time getting a good signal in my house. Calls drop when I'm talking to someone and the person on the other end of the phone fades in and out when I'm on a call.

Is anybody else losing their 3G connection on the DINC? My phone has recently started to randomly drop 3G so that I am unable to surf the web, receive emails etc. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? I live in South Florida where 3G has always been fine. I would greatly appreciate anybody's input. Rebooting the phone helps for a while.

Do you have any problems with call quality and/or calls dropping? I personally have never had a problem. I am in a major city and not the country or rural area. I'm just trying to see what percentage of users have these issues.

I'm rooted with Fresh 3.2 and netarchy kernel. I was using my GPS today and for some reason it would work for 10 seconds and then it wouldn't update for another 10 seconds. It'd just do this constantly and wouldn't give me a solid connection. Any ideas on what to try?

Since I installed 2.2.1 (could be coincidence), I regularly find that the USB icons in the status bar disappear. Sometimes reinserting the plug helps, most often not. The device registers the incoming power (evinced by the LED) but not the data connection (no icons popup for mounting etc).

I have had my Evo for almost 3 weeks. I had terrible reception to begin with before the update. I had perfect reception with my Hero before and Other 5 phones in my house never loose service. Today I have had at least 6 dropped calls. I called Sprint, did a hard reset, it didn't help.

I did a quick forum search, and didn't turn up much.I'm wondering if anyone has problems dropping calls, or reception issues with their phones.Amid the Antennagate scandal of iphone, I've decided not to upgrade my older gen iphone for the new one, despite (finally) being offered a free case. I've been looking into android, and especially the EVO, and I'm strongly considering switching if they ever come back in stock.According to high lord emperor of the universe, aka steve jobs, all smartphones have antenna problems.

I have a rooted Evo 4G currently running the latest Fresh. Also running the current Wireless Tether App 2.0.5 pre 9. I am always having a problem of the client computer just dropping connection and no longer can find the broadcasting signal. Seems like the phone just stops broadcasting randomly. Only way to fix it is to disable and then enable the wireless tethering again. This happens about every 10-15 minutes, on any computer I try. Work, home, shop, everywhere. I also tried wiping the phone completely and re-installing the app. Is there a more reliable wireless tether app out there?

I am doing some very basic drawing of triangles in OpenGL, but I am seeing strange rendering errors. When I draw a textured square (two triangles) part of the square is missing or the texture is stretched or corrupted. When I draw a square with no texture, part of the square is missing sometimes. I do not see a pattern to when it works and when it doesn't. It might be broken one run, then after a back button and rerun, it works the next. The triangle that's missing is not one of the triangles used to draw the square. Rather it is part of the first triangle and part of the second triangle. The triangles are the bottom right half and the top left half of the square, but the part missing is the bottom left half of the square.

Okay so my phone keeps dropping 3G and it wont be able to find it for hours but then it will find it then lose it again. I tried restarting the phone and it still is doing it. I also looked on my brother's Evo and his has connection when mine does not so I know it is not a problem with our tower, any suggestions on what to do.

I have program that runs a bluetooth connection. The socket connects fine. We then read/write from the related streams. This works fine for about a minute, then we start to get IOExceptions from the InputStream.available() and OutputStream.write() functions. The IOException indicates that the socket has been closed. Could anybody take a stab at what might be going on here?

My new htc hero is having trouble with my wifi/router, it conects if i turn the router off than on but then the connection drops, i then go to search for my modem and it says signal is strong but yet when i click on connect nothing happens, I'm sure its a setting on the router itself as my blackberry had the same trouble.

I've been using my Desire on the net a bit today and a few times its decided to just drop back to the phone home screen and out of the internet all together. The back of the phone has got a bit warm so I'm wondering if its overheating and quitting out - has anyone else experienced this and is it normal?

I've had my captivate for about 2 months. Lately, it seems to be dropping almost every single call I make - sometimes 30 seconds in, sometimes a few minutes in. I'm making the calls in my apt in the middle of a big city where I have 5 bars and 3G service.
I can't say for sure but I feel like this really started happening after the JH7 update. I couldn't get my update OTA because my phone wouldn't communicate with the ATT servers, so I did it through the version available on xda of JH7.

Just my experience noted here. Got the X last week. I had ongoing problems with 3G signal dropping to 1x regardless of how strong a signal area I was in. Phone also got VERY warm when accessing data. I'd classify it as hot.
I got a replacement today. Very impressed with the quick delivery. Unfortunately the 3G problem remains on this one (it's actually worse) and it gets just as hot. I think there's a real problem generally with the device. I really loved the solid build and phone design. Hopefully a SW fix can eventually solve this for you all.
I'm a reformed iPhone (3Gs then 4) user and have switched to the EVO and will hang out over on those forums. Good luck to you all here.

For some reason my phone randomly drops off the network and when people call me they go straight to voice mail while the phone doesn't ring at all. I still have 3 / 4 bars and can receive text messages so I'm not sure what's wrong. It seems to have started since I've started using the Airplane mode but this could be a coincidence.

I have noticed that when my screensaver activates the wi-fi is disconnected hence any data usage during this time is over the phone network as soon as I unlock my phone it then reconnects. Surly this is not correct.I have only had the phone for 3 weeks and my first bill was excessive to say the least.I oversubscribed my free allowance by 50MB. I have since taken out the unlimited usage option(500MB). Anybody any ideas on the subject. Is it worth contacting HTC ?

EXCLUSIVE: Verizon Dropping Google Search From All Future Androids? Android Phones, Android Tips, Android News Thedroidguy.com. "We've been working on this story since yesterday in regards to the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, A Galaxy S Phone. After the Samsung Galaxy release event in late June we discovered, as the rest of you did, that Bing would be the search on the fascinate. We pinged Verizon spokeswoman, back on July 1, 2010 who gave us this reply: We also have a great relationship with Microsoft and Bing is the default search engine on our feature phones. Customers may change the search engine on their phones if they like. However after careful review of the Samsung Fascinate we found that the Google Search" bar is not in the Android Widgets menu, nor can you access it from market. Also we tried several of the Google Seach bar and have not been able to get those to work either. These are working on the Captivate, and Vibrant as side loads. Here where the story gets interesting. 2 of our Verizon tipsters, including the one who substantiated those HTC Merge photos back on August 4th, have told us that Verizon is dropping the Google Search from all future Android Devices and offering Bing in it place. We were under the impression that Verizon is committed to the entire Google/Android experience."

I'm on my third 'X'.Both returns have been for the identical reason.3G drops seemingly at random and then hangs on 1x for 'x' amount of time before it reverts back.Yes I can manually kick start the thing by going into airplane mode but this is ridiculous.I've tried all the other band-aid approaches; hard reset, *228/1, *228/2, etc.Nothing fixes the problem. This happens way to often to be considered a fluke.I can not afford to have this happen while in navigation mode as it renders that function useless.I really need to know from someone this in fact is A) identified and B) being addressed by Moto and/or VZW. If I can't I'm afraid I will have to return this and leave VZW.It's too bad as the phone is perfect except for this very annoying bug. Does anyone have solid information on this?

My WiFi drops connection all the time which seems to be a common problem for many Hero users. I've found the 'Wifi Fixer' application helps a little bit. You can download it for free from Market. It tries to reconnect your WiFi in the background everytime it drops.

I really enjoy this phone, but unfortunately I keep running into odd battery issues. I fully charged the phone while sleeping last night and now the phone is down to 40% with almost no usage (10 hours). I checked the battery manager and it said the display has used 94% of the battery which is extremely odd, seeing as how I haven't really used the phone at all today. The brightness is set at 40% and screen timeout to 30 seconds. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I suspect it may be a rogue application, unfortunately the Droid X does not show what applications are eating the battery in the manager.

I have had a lot of issues lately with dropping calls and it started since I installed Cyanogen. I'll be on the phone chatting away and it just becomes quiet and I'm not on the phone anymore with that phone. Or it will actually vibrate and I'll be kicked off the phone. I'm still running Cyanogen Rc3 if that matters.

Hey fellow Galaxy users on the Bell network. Are any of you having problems with your phone dropping 3G and the only way to get it back on is to reboot your phone?
I'm running Galaxo 1.6.3.3 but even when I was running Samsung's 1.6 release at least twice a week it'll just drop the 3G signal. As far as I can tell there's no rhyme or reason for it. I'll notice that I haven't heard any notifications in a while (usually if I hear it tell me that I've got an email I just check it on the computer I'm on) and when I check it the signal is dropped. There's no pattern for it, I've sent texts or made phone calls and it worked fine, 1/2 hour later....nothing.
Just wondering if it's just me or if others are having the same problem. Maybe if it's just me I can try to swing a deal with Bell for a Legend (like the Galaxy but can't stand the official support (Drakaz, on the other hand, is my hero)).
