Android :: Updated Astrid From Version 2 To 3 - How To Rollback?
Aug 18, 2010So I updated Astrid from version 2 to 3 and realize it was a big mistake. They took away a bunch of options and now require a RTM account. Is there any way to rollback an app? I searched around and can't find the old version anywhere. On a side note I have noticed a very disheartening trend for Android software developers. They release an app and market it as free. They wait until enough people download it and build a strong user base. Then "update" the software which removes features unless you pay for the full version. This is just poor PR in my opinion.

Is OTA = over the air?
Is my 2.1 rom the one that is referred to as 2.1 OTA?
Is there a well documented procedure out there for rooting my version 2.1 rom phone?
Sprint HTC Hero :: Install 2.1 Leak Via RUU Exe File - Need Emergency Rollback
Apr 16, 2010Looks like it will be a few weeks before Sprint pushes a "bug free" 2.1. I install the leak via RUU exe file. Phone is trashed, completely useless as a phone, have to pull the battery reboot and quickly make a call before it locks up or crashes. Can you guys tell me how to roll back, hack, crack, smack, or otherwise install a working ROM?

Sep 25, 2010I recently got a Hero and spent the last few days lurking hard enough to root, flash Cyanogenmod 6.0 (RC1), uncapped kernel, and collins battery tweak without trouble. Needless to say, this transformed my phone and I'm passionately in love with it
Finally I am reaching out to community for help for the first time. I want to buy a bigger (and faster) SD card, and want to make sure I don't screw anything up. Can I simply insert the new card and format it, or do I need to transfer any specific files, do a wipe of any sort, etc. before switching cards?

Nov 26, 2009I am wondering if I am on the newest firmware / software for my Hero (Sprint) I went to Settings / About Phone / System Updates etc .. downloaded a update... It now saysmy firmware version is 1.5 and software version is 1.56.651.2 not really sure but I thought I was reading people are on version 2.0 and higher not sure but anyway do Ihave to go to the Sprint website or the HTC website for the newer version if there is in fact one?

HTC Hero :: Rooting HTC Hero GSM - Telus Version
May 18, 2010I just got a Telus version of the HTC Hero. Coming from an iPhone, I've been through some of the 'root/jailbreak' scenes, so most things are familiar. However, making the transition to the Anrdoid OS, there's many things I'm not understanding. Currently the Hero is running 1.5 (can that be updated). I tried running Instant Root and it failed. So I tried the Gold Card method (Eh, not too bad) and no luck with that. I'm not sure where to start, since the guides mentioned in the stickies for root don't work for me. I'm just a confused newbie with the Android customization scene.

Steps 1-3:
In order to execute the root exploit, you need a tool called "adb." This stands for Android Debugging Bridge, and it is bundled with the Android SDK. The SDK is a package that allows you to write applications for Android, but the only reason we're downloading the SDK is for the adb tool, which is located in a /Tools subfolder in the SDK. The latest HTC Sync is needed because it contains the drivers that allow adb to interface between your PC and your phone. I believe the version of Sync specified will work with windows 7 64-bit. Mac users, scroll down to post 18 in this thread. EarlyMon has the procedure for you.
Step 4:
You need to turn on USB debugging on your phone in order for adb to work. You will be using adb to copy files to your phone and execute linux commands. More on this later.
Step 5:
It is important that your phone is in charge only. If it is in disk drive mode, your phone pretty much locks your sdcard from being written by adb. Make sure you're in charge mode.
Step 6:
Now you have to copy files onto your phone via adb. The "adb push" command basically takes a file on your PC and pushes it to your phone. If you needed a file copied off your phone onto your PC, you'd use adb pull. Easy, right? Let's look at the first copy command:

Aug 7, 2010My Incredible is Ver. 2.1 and radio 1, what is the procedure for installing roms? Can I just install any 2.2 rom right away or do I need to find a 2.1 somewhere then upgrade? Sorry, I just don't understand and I've been reading up on this for a few days. I think I understand that the Incredible will release a 2.2 update soon, do I need to wait for that. In my adventures so far, I've been able to pretty much master backing up my phone as I've had to restore it several times now.

adb shell commands give me "can't find device"
And keep up the awsome work. the original phone I loaded 2.1 leak v.3. Loved it! Replaced/ warranty exchanged due to poor call reception and echo-ing on the other end.
Motorola Droid :: Correct Metamorph Procedure For 2.1
Mar 21, 2010I have read around a bit but I am kinda confused between different phones/versions using metamorph.
Last time I tried it and restarted I got stuck in a bootloop =P. I made a COMPLETE backup so going to give it a try shortly.
As I understand, I download metamorph from the market, move my themes into my sdcard metamorph folder, then basically run metamorph. I think BB.9 has busybox already taken care of.
I don't need to clear/wipe anything or whatnot for this to work correct, right?

May 30, 2013I've got a new phone, and both it and my old one show up on Google Play, with the tabs showing the respective apps installed.The old one is rooted, and I want to let my son use it on his own GMail ID. I've no problem resetting it or loading a completely new ROM.
Is there a proper procedure for dissociating it from my GMail ID and adding it to his. I have a suspicion that if I just change the associated email address in the Google Play settings on the phone, it will still appear on my list of devices.

Jul 26, 2010I deleted a few system apps (all the social stuff, corp directory, email, etc). In a thread on DroidXForums (this one on the unrooting procedure) someone mentioned that they could not get the .604 update without some of the bloatware. Of course, this freaked me out a bit as I would certainly like to get Froyo when it comes out. So, I went about trying to reinstall the stuff I'd uninstalled. The system dump with all the default apps is here, and below is the procedure to get what you're missing reinstalled and visible as system apps. I used Root Manager but the same procedure should work for Root Explorer. If you prefer ADB I'm sure one of the more competent terminalists here.
-Place the apk(s) of the apps on your sdcard.
-Use your chosen means to copy the apk(s) to /system/app (this will require making /system/app writable. In Root Manager just press the R/W key when you're exploring /system/app).
-You now need to change the app's permissions. In Root Manager, long press on the app (in /system/app) and click on "permissions". Then make sure that only the following boxes are clicked: User Read, User Write, Group Read, Others Read.
-Make sure you make /system/app read only again by clicking that box in the top right while you're exploring the folder.
-Reboot phone.
Now the apps should be loaded and the system should recognize them as system apps (you can verify by opening Titanium and noticing they're in red). This should make you good to go for whatever OTA comes. If you're unsure which apks in the system dump correspond to the apps you've deleted, just explore your /system/app and compare it to the system dump app list. Any apks in the dump but not in yours are what you're looking for.
