Does anyone know if there is any software available (if it even exists that is) that would allow me to download photos etc of people/things that I search for on the web ie:Google Images?
I mean say I want to search Google images for my favorite Artist Ryan Adams and I find a Great photo that has been uploaded is there anyway that I could download that photo so I could use it as wallpaper etc?

I am working on an application that downloads images from a url. The problem is that only some images are being correctly downloaded and others are not. First off, here is the problem code:

So what I have is a method that takes the url as a string argument and then downloads the image, converts the HttpResponse stream to a bitmap by means of the BitmapFactory.decodeStream method, and returns it. The problem is that when I am on a slow network connection (almost always 3G rather than Wi-Fi) some images are converted to null--not all of them, only some of them. Using a Wi-Fi connection works perfectly; all the images are downloaded and converted properly. Does anyone know why this is happening? Or better, how can I fix this? How would I even go about testing to determine the problem?
I want to add images to gallery view after downloading them (like in android market application). All examples of gallery uses images stored in drawable folder. So how can I add images to gallery when image gets downloaded??
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I get picture texts, it comes up with a play button in the message thread. Clicking it will 'play' the image for 10 seconds, and I found out I can tap the screen and hit pause to look at the pic longer... but I can't figure out how to save the image. I've tried:
holding finger on the play button in-thread
holding finger on the image
hitting the menu button on either page
with no success.
I have an array of all the URIs of the images which I am showing in a List. Now I want to run a thread in background which gets this images from web and store them on the SD card. So when I click a particular element in the list instead of fetching from web it should fetch from the SD card in the new activity.

Every time I go to download my photos from my phone (both SD card and internal), I end up downloading thumbnails and images from websites I've visited as well as people's avatars from foursquare. I end up having to delete hundreds of images every time I want to download my pix.
Any idea how to disable the downloading of the web stuff? (Can the phone differentiate web image from photos I've taken from the camera?) I've tried from both the phone side and the computer side and I can't figure it out. Also, is there any way to get my phone to stop storing these web images? I don't think I need them, do I? (I'm a newbie smartphone owner if you couldn't tell!)
Since 2.2 I have been unable to download anything and only get an error message after it takes you to the download screen. This is happening on the stock browser as well as skyfire. Am I missing something? This worked fine in 2.1.
View 5 Replies View RelatedCurrently running Elelinux 2.2 v2 (latest revision from yesterday) I don't have a data allowance on my current plan and it costs me the equivalent of ?1.10 per megabyte. Anyhow on some of the earlier roms i used - Official 2.1 and Villain 12; during setup i could select: "I do not have a data plan, only use Wifi"
So i never downloaded on 3G (or its equivalents) and only downloaded data while on Wifi. It would use the 3G to download/send MMS though! The problem now is that i don't get that option with the Froyo roms. Additionally when i disable 'data traffic over mobile network' in the settings menu i can't receive MMS and i can't send MMS. Does anyone know any way to keep mobile data on so i can send/receive MMS while not having it download internet related data when not connected to Wifi?
I'm not sure what to do about this, I'm running cyanogenmod6 nightly build-87 (10-11-10). I have on gapps mdpi 10-8-10 and the froyo mms fix. My phones info is

What I don't understand is that I have internet connection, I'm actually posting this from my phone, but yet when I try downloading mms messages it lights up my 3g arrows and then says message download unsuccessful. Iv tryed using stock messaging app and handcent and its the same for both. Iv tryed updating permissions and I know my phone is compatable to open the message because I even tried sending myself a ringtone, it sent. But then I couldn't receive it. Any suggestions on how to fix this? And if not maybe I could try going back to a rom that allows me to update prl and profile? But I can't find one of those either.
HTC's site is crashing due to everyone in the world downloading this update. Some please mirror the update for all of us getting shafted!

When I talked to sprint they did tell me that there were some towers out in my area. ..Just wanted to throw that out there for people who have this problem with no solutions.

I can access all the apps easily enough but when it comes to downloading them it won't work. I'm using my home WiFi connection. I'm also no where near my data allowance from orange. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using ES File Explorer to connect to my Wi-Fi LAN, and to download images to my Hero. However, when I try to open them, i can see that the image app is starting and then suddenly stopping. I cannot open the images at all. However, if I connect my Hero to my PC and mount the SD card, I can open and view the images on both the computer and my Hero. I tried different image formats (jpg, bmp, gif)... All other file types are working fine (txt, doc, pdf...).

The correct settings are now in but the MMS is stuck at "downloading" status. Is there any way I can rescue it, there is no forward option and I've successfully sent and recieved MMS since.

I have downloaded apps from the Android Market, but last night and today, my phone will get into a state where I will select an app to download, it will tell me to watch the notification bar for download status, and nothing will happen. If I select the app in the store to look at the download progress, it just says: "downloading...." with the animated bar, but never downloads. I tried turning off the phone and turning it back on, and that seemed to correct the problem for one download, but then subsequent downloads won't start up. I have barely installed any apps on it, and I'm not really sure what the problem is. Is this a known issue with the Android Market, or do I have something wrong with my phone? Has anyone else encountered this and know why it's happening?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried searching for a thread to help me with this and can't seem to find one. My mms will not download to my phone. The messages come through but will not finish downloading or open. I have uninstalled handcent which I thought may have been a problem and it corrected it for 1 mms then I am back to square 1. My internal memory has 87mb left and I've deleted all apps I don't use.
I have tried deleting all messages in the phone by batch mode and it either freezes up or gives me force close to what looks like the mms program. I am trying to avoid a hard reset because we all know how much of a pain to reinstall everything is. I am starting to get really fed up with the phone because for the money I paid, I expect much better. As much as I dislike Apple products, I can see why people rave about their products - they don't have these problems. (*sssshhh don't tell Apple fanboys I said that)
I hope I can get some help here, I am running android 2.0 update 1 on my HTC Hero and have synced my facebook contacts up with my phone so it's downloaded everyone onto my contact list. This is brilliant, but I have one problem, recently added facebook friends (within the last few months or so) are not downloading onto the phone. I've got into accounts and sync'd it and it seems to be synced but it isn't downloading the new friends contact details onto my phone.

It's the only problem I have with the phone. I'm wondering if anyone who had this issue has since rooted and had the problem be resolved from that. I'm on the fence about rooting. I'm generally happy with the phone as it stands. And as a long time Mac user, I'm nervous about messing around with the internal stuff. And all the rooting tutorials seem to be for the Windows user.

Then I remembered that being in the UK I had recently taken advantage of changing my email from googlemail to gmail, although I had changed this in my mail on the phone it seemed to upset the marketplace downloads
Changed it back to googlemail and all works fine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHTC Hero: Rooted with 2.1 and previously running absolutely fine but for some reason today I'm not able to save/download anything.
I tried to download a picture off the internet and it was saying there was not enough space (even though the phone memory has 122mb free thanks to Apps2SD and my SD card has over 3GB free) so I tried to email the picture from my PC, received on my phone and when I try to download the picture it says you need an SD card to do this... but the card IS being seen by the phone because my apps are running, I can access music and pictures that are on it.
I unmounted the card and then remounted it and my phone went into a loop, trying to reinitialise and couldn't do it. So I just restarted the phone and, again, all apps work but cannot save or download anything.
I'm trying to avoid wiping everything and starting from scratch but seeing as I've been meaning to move to 2.2 I think it might be an idea...
Deffo seems to just be an SD card problem, had an old MMS message, tried to save it and it wouldn't worked. Used the SaveMMS app and that brought up a long error string which basically pointed to a problem with the SD card. What confuses me though is that I can still read from it (playing music) and I just deleted a couple of pictures off it which surely constitutes editing?
I have sky 20 Mbps broadband and as I live close to the exchange, tend to get pretty much that. However doing speed tests on my phone while connected to the Netgear router the highest speeds I seem to be able to get is around 2 Mbps. Is there anything I can do to increase the speed to which my phone can download from the router?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I first installed Handcent, whenever someone sent me a pic it just popped right up on my screen. No action needed on my part to open a file or anything.
About 2 days ago it started sending these "Download" boxes instead. I press the box that is in the txt msg and it reads "downloading".
Two Questions:
1. Where do those pix download to?
2. Sometimes it says "unable to download"..... now what?! It doesn't tell me why it cannot download the pic.
