Dec 5, 2009How do I type a word without adding it to my dictionary? Say I'm purposely misspelling a word for an example of something like "haha, you totally just typed computer instead of computer" but I don't want to add that word/use the word it suggests. I can't figure it out!

Jul 8, 2009My mind has just been blown. I consider myself a fairly careful and exploratory user of most things, and Android is no exception - I'd like to think of knowing most its functions, and when people make posts in this forum, I do tend to already know them. But no - my mind was just blown with something so simply that I'm sure i'm behind the curve here. It always annoyed me how difficult it was to add a word to the dictionary for prediciton? Or, not difficult, but time consuming, going into the settings, text and locale, diction, add. The other day I had a moment of brilliance when I realised that long-holding the text box after typing in a word brought up the option (right at the bottom of the list) to add it to the dictionary. This was faster, but still a bit annoying because it took a second to load the dictionary, then you had to click "Add" again. I just realised, however, that if you long-hold a word itself in the text entry box, it just adds it. It comes up saying "saved" and bam, it's done.

Aug 1, 2010I've got a dictionary.com app on my phone, cant remember if I downloaded it or if it came with the phone and as such not sure if everyone has it or not. Basically it gives me a widget which I had on my 7th homescreen that gives me a 'word of the day' each day which I quite liked. Since I upgraded to Froyo, the widget isn't working, it keeps force closing but the main app itself works.

Jul 31, 2010While using the predictive text in the DINC I sometimes want to type something that isn't a word like an acronym or some abbreviation. Predictive text will suggest a word close to what I am typing but I don't want that. It offers exactly what I am typing as an option but then it adds that text to the dictionary. Sometimes that's great but most of the time I want to simple use the term once and not add it to to dictionary. If I type space it will change my text. If I select the offered override it adds the text to my dictionary. How do I just keep what I am typing?

Jun 18, 2010I know that to delete words I've manually input into Swype is simply to highlight, hit the swype button and delete, but what about words that come in the Swype dictionary? For instance, I often mistakenly put in the word "Urea" when I want to say, "Yea." I don't see myself every needing the word "Urea," so I want to delete it from the Swype dictionary, but I can't seem to figure it out because it's not a word I made Swype learn, it's a word that came with Swype. I know that I can press that down arrow and add a word but how can I delete some of the words that are already there. I am just wondering if the auto-suggest dictionary is user-modifiable. I use compact QWERTY (like SureType on BB). When I type "we", what comes out is "qe" which is the default word it wants to use. Perhaps I used it once and saved it? How can I delete the words I don't want popping up anymore (especially the ones I may have added)?

Aug 29, 2009I had a G1 for a while and never had problems adding words to the T9 dictionary. Now i have a HTC Hero and can't find any way of adding words to the phone keypad T9 dictionary. I used to start a word, then click the drop down arrow, then press "add word", but it appears that this option is non-existent on the Hero. Is this because i was using the "Chinese imput" input option or have they just moved this on the Hero.

Jun 17, 2010I've seen a few posts about this, but i wanted to ask again and see if anything new has come up.I'm happy with my USER dictionary, because i check it every couple days to make sure there's no crazy stuff in there that will pop up while typing.However, i would really like to be able to edit the dictionary that comes on the Hero. The biggest gripe i have is that EVERY time i type "the" it replaces it with "Tue"Wouldn't the dictionary be a file on the phone? Seems like you should be able to edit it after rooting, no?

Jun 28, 2010Why does the text entry always ask me to confirm the last word of a sentence that ends with something other than a period? It's kind of annoying (using Handcent) to have to press on the spellchecked word before moving on or sending a text message. Sometimes I can just hit send, and sometimes it just blinks at me until I confirm that, yes, I did want to end my message or sentence with "Why?" or whatever happens to be at the end.
Annoying. Anything I can do to get rid of this?
