HTC Hero :: Voice Search APK?
Dec 23, 2009I know there a few people like me (in Canada) that don't have access to the voice search apk that is free in market (the one allows you to use the microphone icon in the search widget).
I found it on an app developer site and now I don't remember where I saw it but I did save the apk file

Dec 6, 2009the unthinkable happened - and my hero died - well it stopped being able to connect to the network. pretty useless. so I phoned orange who sent a replacement but I cant find the ap for voice search, it seems to be missing.any ideas please? I have installed the TTS extended thing but no voice search

Jul 20, 2010One of the great features of the the 4th soft button is to hold it down to bring up the voice search prompt. A this prompt there are several commands that are extremely helpful, such as: "Navigate to <place>" opens Google Navigation and gives you directions to <place> "Call <contact> work/home/etc" will call that contact. (Is there a way to set a default so that you can just say "Call <contact>" and it automatically calls that person's cell/home/work?) "Locate.../Map of.../Find..." will all open and search google maps.
"Driections to <place>" will open google maps and give you directions to <place> "Look up <place/thing/etc>" will do a google search

However it never gets anything right and it's embarrassing to use in public and pretty useless, and it uses about 2.6MB of the tiny internal storage of the phone. So I tried removing it, but it doesn't even seem to be possible. There's just an option to remove updates. Do I have to wipe the phone completely to get rid of it?

Mar 28, 2010Ever since I rooted I can no longer use any voice search on my droid. It always tells me that its has to force close as soon as I click on the icon. Is this a known issue with bugless beast 1.2 that I just have to deal with? I love having my phone rooted but id rather have a fully functioning phone that a rooted phone.

I thought you had to go in and active the app by pressing it to use it? It used to work that when I held down the little magnifying glass in the lower right corner of my screen it would bring up a voice search that let me say pretty much anything... navigate to [here], call [this person]. It's stopped doing that. Now when I hold it down it brings up a little message saying "you haven't enabled quick compose, please enable it from handcent settings"

But I don't use it, have no reason to use it, and it takes up memory. I've been to the (lack of) settings and can't find anything.I am rooted, but not familiar enough with it to know how to remove the application manually.Using a task killer works for a few minutes, but it takes less than 5 minutes to return on its own.

May 14, 2010For anyone getting "server problem" when attempting a voice search with 2.1, it appears to be a issue with random existing gmail accounts. This feature never worked for me with the 2.1 beta. When I flashed the release, I tried every one of my 6 existing gmail accounts with no love, then I created a new account on the phone and wahlaa voice search works. Now all I have to do is export my contacts and calender to the new account and contact beyondpods author to get a new key.

You know that cool, relatively new Voice Search that lets you text message, use navigation, etc, just through voice commands? Well, as many of you may know, if you pair a bluetooth headset with the EVO, and then press the voice dial button on the headset, it ll bring up Voice Dialer, an application that is known for not really working., at all. Just as when you press and hold the search button on the EVO Voice Search pops up, is there a way to make (map?) Voice Search to a bluetooth headset's voice dial button? In other words, so that when you press the button, instead of voice dialer, voice search will come up?

Nov 11, 2009When in car home and i try to do a voice search saying "call 'john doe', mobile phone" all it does is search google for what I said. I want to call a person using my voice through car home like the example they give you on the car home menu. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, and why it gives you the option to "call ' john doe', mobile phone" if it doesn't work?
