HTC EVO 4G :: Voice Search - Launching It With Bluetooth Headset?
Aug 22, 2010
My Evo is not rooted, and I do not want to do so. With that out of the way, I have a simple question:
You know that cool, relatively new Voice Search that lets you text message, use navigation, etc, just through voice commands? Well, as many of you may know, if you pair a bluetooth headset with the EVO, and then press the voice dial button on the headset, it ll bring up Voice Dialer, an application that is known for not really working., at all. Just as when you press and hold the search button on the EVO Voice Search pops up, is there a way to make (map?) Voice Search to a bluetooth headset's voice dial button? In other words, so that when you press the button, instead of voice dialer, voice search will come up?

Does pressing the Bluetooth headset "call" button and then speaking "call John Doe." work with Nexus One? (Essentially making a call without physically touching the phone.)

I just discovered that BB 0.4 has bluetooth voice dialing from the headset. I have tried it on 2 different rooted droids with different headsets. Just have to press and hold the action button for a couple seconds and it pops up.

Has anyone found a way or App that will allow you to voice dial using a bluetooth headset. This is a basic bluetooth task yet the highly technical Droid doesn't come from Motorola with this simple function.

I have a Jawbone bluetooth headset that worked great on the Moment with the 1.5. Updated and now, when I press the call button on the headset, sometimes nuance voice control will open and ask "Say A Command"... i do so, and most of the time it will just go back to the home page. Sometimes it hears the command and will ask to confirm it. At that point, it just stays there, even after i say "Yes" 55 times, and then goes back to home screen. If I manually dial the number it will route it to the headset and all is well with the world. But driving, this is a pain and crashing is a really sucky option. Anyone else have anything like this happening? Any ideas? I am sure this issue has been beaten like a slow horse but I am tired of swerving all over the road trying to make a call.....

I currently have a Jawbone II headset and just got my Droid a couple days ago. My wife keeps on saying that when she calls me that my voice is very echoy. is this a common issue w/ the Droid, or is there something I need to try to do to possibly fix this issue. Other then this, the phone is great, but because I live off my bluetooth headset this is a big issue for me.

I have a new Droid 2 running 2.3 and a Bluetooth headset (Samsung HM3500). Speech-to-text (of the sort activated by pushing the microphone button in any text-input field) does not work through the Bluetooth headset.
Oddly, after initially booting up the phone, it works through the built-in microphone. I then activate and pair my headset. Voice recognition doesn't work through the headset (or through the built-in mic). I then disable Bluetooth, turn off the headset. Voice recognition continues not to work!
I know the headset works. And when I press the headset button, it enters "voice command" mode where it asks me to "say a command." This mode works over the Bluetooth headset! Also, I tested this behavior in the Voice Recognizer of ApiDemos, and its also broken in the way described above.

I've seen an app that can launch voice search from the BT headset, but it still uses the phone's mic. It would be great if the voice dialer could be completely replaced with the much more functional new Voice Search. If you agree, please vote over at google for this feature: Issue 8973 - android - Add voice search over bluetooth, similar to voice dialer in 2.2 - Project Hosting on Google Code

I have read and researched everything I can about this and it is pretty clear that one cannot activate or talk to Google Voice Search using a Bluetooth headset.
Voice Dialing works, but after using Voice Search, why do they even both having Voice Dialing? Voice Search is hugely more accurate and useful.
So my question: Is there an app that will make a Bluetooth headset work with Google Voice Search?

I have a Galaxy S5 with 4.4.2. I dont recall if this happened when I had my S4 but this is my issue. When I am in my car and connected to the cars bluetooth, whenever I want to speak to google to do a search or something it goes through the bluetooth of the car. This would be fine but sometimes it waits like 2-3 seconds until the bluetooth in car picks up and messes up my train of thought. I would like to make the voice search not use the bluetooth when connected.

I'm aware that by default, we cannot access the Google Voice Search used in Google Now by using a bluetooth headset and that it instead uses the old Voice Dialer. In my opinion, the Voice Dialer is horrible is recognizing names and commands.
It would be amazing if when we pressed the button on our bluetooth headsets, it would use the Voice Search/Google Now so we could dial, send a text, check weather, sports scores, and all the other great things Google Voice Search in Jelly Bean has brought us.
Are there any developers out there that can make that possible in their ROM? Is there any way that we can make this work at all?

Haven't seen a recent thread on this lately so I'm curious what Bluetooth headsets you guys use out there? Rate 'em 1-5, link 'em too if you can! I currently use:
-Plantronics Discovery 975 5/5
-Plantronics Discovery 925 4/5
-Aliph Jawbone2 4/5
-Plantronics Voyager 520 3/5
1. Plantronics Discovery 975. I've got 2 of these actually one for my PlayStation 3 and one for my Droid. It's the main Bluetooth headset I use these days. Sound quality is excellent. It sticks in your ear with no hoop, is comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It comes with a little leather case with a battery built in so that you can recharge the headset up to 3x when away from AC power. Has a little LCD panel to show you charge of both devices. (Infinitely easier than deciphering how many blinks equals what battery charge!) Best voice. You may see them on this seasons "24" as it's the headphone of choice at CTU
2. Plantronics Discovery 925. Earlier version of the 975. Great for call quality, battery life etc. Comes with same little case. Design is a little different but it gets the job done. No LCD screen on the case. Mainly used with my work Blackberry. Uses MicroSD charger, so you get an extra for your Droid!
3. Aliph Jawbone2. Much smaller than the original. Very tiny and chic. Great sound quality (it uses a little nub to detect vibration in your jaw to know when to isolate outside noise (using it's patented NoiseAssassin) so you could be on a crowded street and still be pretty clear. Only downsides are the battery life isn't amazing and the proprietary charger plus it only comes with a USB. (Becoming less of an issue these days as I'm starting to acquire a ton of AC USB chargers)
4. Plantronics Discovery 520. My original work Bluetooth headset. Does a decent job but is a little bulky. The ear hook makes it a bit uncomfortable to wear for long periods and not quick to get on. Has a proprietary weird shaped charging port. Battery life was average if that.

So I got a new Evo on friday and it is my first experience with android and I am loving it so far! The only problem I am really having is keeping my bluetooth headset paired with the device.
I have a plantronics explorer 230 and it is the only bluetooth thing I have. It continually disconnects and reconnects from the device at random even when I am on calls. I am not very techy so I really have no idea what to do. It disconnects on its own and then reconnects again a few seconds later.

This seems so basic so many I'm missing something, but is it possible to listen to voicemail via a Bluetooth headset? When I'm driving and want to check voicemail, I don't want to have to put the headset to my ear (and in CA, it's illegal to do so) and when Bluetooth is enabled, the speakerphone option is disabled.

Hope someone on the forum can help, as I don't know anything about the possibilities with bluetooth. I need some way of answering the phone while driving. Existing car stereo has external jack input, so I use the Desire as my sat nav / ipod, plugging it into the stereo via two 3.5mm jacks. Thinking of buying a bluetooth headset to let me answer phonecalls. My question is, would this work with the above set up? Or would it try and send the output via the "headphones" jack to the car stereo? Car stereo does not have bluetooth. Just the aux input from the phone (sat nav / music). I don't want the music / sat nav to play into my ear, just phonecalls. I know this is expecting a lot - but is it possible to do?

My phone is having trouble transferring my contacts from the address book to the cars Nav system. Oddly enough, it worked once and never again. For some reason, it is only able to transfer 2 random contacts off of my phone, and stops there. For reference, it worked perfectly with my Blackberry and other non-Android phones. Here is some information:
Phone: HTC Evo 4g
Software version: 1.32.651.6
Car: 2010 BMW 650i (comes with iDrive)
I have tried un-pairing and re-pairing the phone and it hasn't behaved any differently. I noticed the phone recognizes the car as a Bluetooth Headset, which I suspect may be causing a problem. I have also tried changing the phones Bluetooth name. When I look at my Blackberry, it says the BMW supports the following services: Handsfree, Object Push, AVRCP. The Blackberry recognizes the car to be different from a normal headset.

Does anyone find it odd that they cannot listen to voicemails in their paired, attached BT headset or did I miss a memo on how to do this? Also, is anyone having problems with random BT headset disconnects? I have a Plantronics Voyager Pro, which I know works with this handset... randomly it disconnects. No other device disconnects, so I'm thinking the headset is bad... thoughts?

But it can only discovery my notebook computer. If my notebook computer enables Bluetooth and sets Enabling discoverability.
The SDK document snippet:
android.bluetooth.device.action.FOUND"
public static final String ACTION_FOUND
Since: API Level 5
Broadcast Action: Remote device discovered.
Sent when a remote device is found during discovery. I think the remote device means a remote notebook computer except a Bluetooth headset. Could someone please help with this?

A friend wanted to know if he could use his android tablet as a headset, and after some searching it looks like quite a few people would like this.
So I was sondering if this is possible, I am new to Android development and I have been playing around with the Bluetooth samples and cannot seem to figure out how to make other devices see Android as a headset.
So my main question is- Is it possible to make a app that would disguise an android device as a headset so it could receive calls and maybe even dial number?
I would like to clarify if this is even possible with the Android SDK
The main use if i make this app is for people who can't afford the data plan that is required when buying a smartphone from a carrier. So if this person has a small android MID they can pair it with their dumb phone and essentially use their MID as a phone.
