Can someone provide me with a step to step guide to root my phone as we won't be getting this damn update...I. think I mite as well join the fun.
Also once I rooted will everything be wiped from my phone? Like my scenes n stuff.

So I rooted a few days ago using Universal 1 Click Method and flashed Xxtrasense ROM immediately (in step 4 of the instructions below).
Step 1) download and install this APK:

Step 2) Run, read disclaimer, press button
Step 3) Reboot, once rebooted your phone should have Amon's recovery. Yay.
Step 4) Use the recovery to flash rootme.zip that is now on your SDCard, or the custom rom of your choice.
Step 5) Go into settings, and turn usb debugging on. After you have root, please uninstall this app.
I want to try new ROMs and have read through a number of threads but its only confused me more on the next steps. Questions are:
1. Do I need to do a NAND or NAND+ext backup (I've done a NAND back up shortly after flashing the Xtrasense ROM)?
2. Is Titanium Backup the only way to get my Apps and data transferred to any new ROMs I flash?
3. At what point is a dalvik wipe required?
If someone is able to provide a step-by-step outline (similar to jcase's 1-click eris root noted above).
Well, out of nowhere, all my contacts were GONE from my phone.Had to go into settings and resync with google and now they are back.What the hell though?Also, looks like my call history gone which is very annoying

When 2.1 is finally released, my Hero will be wiped clean and all apps will need re-installing, do you think, as the free for life wave secure offer will be over, they will want payment next time or is it a simple case of re-installing under the old terms? Hopefully this makes sense. You can probably tell I am quite new to all this!
View 3 Replies View Relatedsuperuser permissions not working. i've already wiped and reflashed fresh 2.1.1. when i try to open superuser permissions all i see is a black screen. also when i use htc sense, it seems to suck up battery really fast but it runs smooth. but when i switch to the nexus launcher it takes a while to load up all the icons on the main screen. i've tried to search but it seems like the search is not accurate in hunting down the threads for me because when i try to create this thread, i see more similar threads than just simply searching for it through the top right search box.

It was one thread of about 15 that were saved in my phone from people I communicate with on a regular basis. The phone froze up for about a minute, then message force closed. Opening up the messages app again reveals All of my threads have been wiped clean.

It now shows phone (0). I thought I could sync back from Google but it appears all along they weren't even being synced even though my Google contacts sync was turned on, so I'm still left with nothing.This is one of the most frustrating and ridiculous problems I've ever encountered on any phone. I rely almost entirely on my phone contacts, and I sure as hell do not want to start copying from my SIM all over again because I'd have to filter out so many unused contacts.

Now go into the app that you want to type the degree symbol in and use the microphone key with the EN underneath to access the degree symbol. Needs verizon's 3g hotspot working. Doesn't need sense. What rom do I need, and what are the steps to getting this done? If it's always recommended to do a full backup, wipe, and restore, then bleh.

No complaints but when I drop my phone it immediately reboots. When I open it and click stuff to fast it will reboot and sometimes for no reason at all. Is this because of me not wiping data or just sucky phone? Using stock kernel. When going to CM6 should I wipe data?

Open the file manager and find the FlashRec apk file and click it and choose open app manager and then install it. I open the file manager, and go to the flashrec apk file but there is no option or whatever to open app manager and install it, im not sure what it means? other than that i understand the whole process.
