Just got my htc hero yesterday and i am loving it!! Anyway i was reading about an update that speeds the hero up a bit (i have noticed sluggishness at times) and so i download it off the htc website, once i started running it, it said i was going From: Image version: 2.73.405.66 To: Image version: 2.73.405.5
Should i install this update? Or am i going backwards?Im with Vodafone UK if this makes a difference.

Today, I installed universal one-click root app onto my phone from this link : [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) - xda-developers and I believe I got my phone rooted. Now, I am hoping to get custom recovery image installed on my phone so that I can nandroid back up my current stock 2.1 based image before installing CM6. I was hoping to try clockworkmod through ROM Manager app. Does this image work in HTC Hero ? If not, is there any other recovery image that I should try for my 2.1 hero ?

I've been trying to update my phone now for nearly two weeks, trying various options, yet nothing I do helps in any way.I started off just running the update from SEUS with my phone as i've been using it.the updater started, gets about 70% through "Preparing" and pops up an error "Unable to install or start software update components." Closing which pops up "try again" or come to this site.I then tried uninstalling all installed components, same result as above.I then tried a Master Reset to factory setting, same result as above.I then disable the Firewall and the Anti-Virus, same result as above.Basically, i'm at the end of my tether, this should not be this difficult, I should not have to jump through this amount of hoops.If there was a way to legitimately root the phone (keeping warranty), I could already have Froyo installed, instead of this irritating mess thats causing me nothing but headaches.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my phone. That went fine, I got the fancy # prompt without too much trouble. So I installed ROM Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery img. When I hit reboot into recovery from ROM Manager it booted to the LG boot screen and wouldn't go anywhere past that. I freaked thinking I was bricked. I left my phone alone for like 4 or so hours and it was fine thankfully. So I pretty much stayed away from fancy stuff like that for the past week.
Then this new firmware update comes out.
My question is... If i install the new OTA update will I lose my root access? I've read about situations where people lose their root then gain it back, I'm just curious if this is the path I will have to follow.
I have a backup of my stock ROM with root access and I'm not running any custom ROMs.
My Desire is 1 week old and came with 2.2 preloaded. It is an unlocked unbranded handset from Carphone Warehouse. Yesterday my phone displayed a message that there is an update available. I decided to check it out before jumping in with both feet. I currently have software version 2.09.405.8, so I assume this update will give me 2.10.405.2? If so, I have read here that there are a few problems with the update, specifically with wifi. I have also read elsewhere that HTC withdrew the update until this was fixed.
Some of the solutions talk about manual installation and a gold card, whatever that is!
Have HTC fixed the wifi problem? Is it now safe for me to install the update OTA? Or should I wait? I really don't want my phone being messed up and having to fiddle around with gold cards or whatever.
I got the message on my phone that there is an update. I tried installing it but it wouldn't let me. I tried the manual way and everytime it goes to install it tells me installation aborted. Any ideas?
I should also mention that when I click recovery after hitting power+volume down it goes to an android guy with an exclamation point.
My phone couldn't update from 2.1 to 2.2 because i used the unrevoked method of rooting. in order for me to get 2.2 i updated my phone with the pc36img.zip file and then rooted again with unrevoked.Now when I'm trying update from 2.2 with the new 3.29.651.5 update, the phone will have the triangle with a exclamation point.Any ideas?
View 14 Replies View RelatedPhone is stuck on the "htc evo 4g" screen after selecting install update for 2.2. if i pull the battery phone will come back on but no update. here is a list of things i have already tried. format sd card. master reset from root menu. update firmware "none available". master reset from settings menu in phone ( when i tried this the phone did the same thing, it would ask if i want to clear all info the i would select yes and the phone would power down and then come on only to the htc evo 4g screen). View 4 Replies View RelatedI hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.

Use at your own risk! Warning! Under no circumstance should you reapply this patch over itself. I have seen two phones die over this. Dead as in, no power, no charge, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. Go directly to jail! I also recommend that you Do Not accept any official OTA while running this leak. It could lead to the same end result. Instead, its best you root, downgrade the HBOOT, and reflash with an RUU. First of all, make sure you are not rooted. So this means you will need to use an RUU (ROM Update utility) to revert your phone back to stock. You can get it from here:

Run through the RUU. If you run into trouble with usb connection errors, or other troubles, you can try these suggestions. Having troubles with the RUU giving connection errors? Do this.
Go to start, and in the search/run box, type

Delete all that you can. Make sure the RUU is not running in the background. Now run the RUU again. Once it starts to the first screen, it has extracted the files to the temp directory. You can then copy them to a safe place. It will be a long winded numbered folder, with a similar subfolder. Once you have copied it to a safe place, you can then copy adb.exe, fastboot.exe, and adbwinapi.dll from the latest SDK into it, overwriting the older copies. Then start the RUU by executing ARUWizard.exe. This fixed the problem for me.
Otherwise, you can also use the extracted files to create an image that HBOOT can load. Search for rom.zip in those files and rename it to PB31IMG.zip and put it on your sdcard. Turn off your phone and then hold DOWN volume and power to get into the HBOOT screen. Let it scan through the files and when it asks to run update, say yes and let it do its thing. It will reboot at least once during update. Once you are back to stock, you can now provide the leaked update. MD5 hash is 68518f450fd4b15c696441f5f93deff4. Link can be found here:

Copy this zip file to your sdcard, renaming it to update.zip. Now power down your phone. Hold DOWN volume and power to get to HBOOT. It will do its scanning thing. If you still have the RUU on there, say NO to updating and NO to rebooting. Once you get to the menu with fastboot, recovery, etc. choose Recovery. This will boot you to the stock recovery with an image with an! Hold UP volume and hit power. This will take you into the recovery menu. Choose apply update.zip, navigating with volume keys and hit the power button. Let it do its thing. It will then say reboot to finish. Navigate to reboot and hit the power button. Let it finish. It will reboot several times during the update.
That's the easy part of installing it. You can also root it with unrevoked tools (3.1 is the latest). Having Market Issues?

During the last few days I've been unable to update or install any apps on my UK Nexus 1. I keep getting "Download Unsuccessful"This did coincide with me switching to Gmail instead of Google Mail but I switched it back and things still don't work so I don't think that this is the answer. Issue:
I tried to update my angry birds and adobe air. My htc desire was fine during the download, but then when it started installing, my phone would say update successfulness. The same thing happened when i tried to install some new apps.
So I got my N1 today and installed apps w/ no problem. After I manually updated to 2.2, whenever I try and download an app it says "Sorry, there's not enough space to install this item." If I go to settings, SD Card & phone storage settings, it says I have 158MB available space under Internal phone storage. So I have plenty of room to install things, what's the deal?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed version 1.6 but was having trouble connecting my wifi. I did a factory reset and tried to re-install the ota- radio-2_22_19_26i.zip. After copying it to update.zip on the sd card and booting it would begin the install process. Verified ok. Install started but then I got the "installation aborted" message. Tried several times with no luck. I tried the recovery image process update and it seemed to work.
Questions:
Did the abort occur because the radio update was already done?
Did I actually update the recovery image if the radio update failed?
I have a G1 Dev Phone. I am unable to install the 1.6 radio update from this page: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html The file name is: ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip I push it to the phone as update.zip, do a shell sync, wait 5 minutes, reboot into recovery mode, press alt+L, then alt+S. I get:
-- Install from sdcard... Finding update package... Opening update package... Verifying update package... Installing update... Installation aborted.
While it says "Verifying update package..." a progress bar slowly grows in the background. When it gets to about 50%, the next 2 messages appear and then I'm back to the system recovery menu.
Why are there no error message? What am I supposed to do now?
I have tried a factory reset. I have tried redownloading the package and doing all the steps again. My phone still works, but I no longer get 2G (I'm on an AT&T carrier with a SIM from an iPhone, so I have never gotten 3G). WIFI and making/receiving calls still works, just no 2G
I am using a milestone with Telus and went to Gsmarena.com and they had a link to the 2.1 which is 100 mb's or some odd but i did download it but the question is how do i install the update? i am using astro file manager and under downloads it is there but how do install the actual update that way i am at 2.1?

The folder is <ANDROID_SDK>/tools. I searched for help in this group about this error and found some answers. But none of them worked for me. Looking at Process Explorer tool I found that the problem is the "java.exe" that is keeping several JAR file handles opened in that directory. Closing the handles hangs the "java.exe". What can I do? I am stuck in this step.
