View 5 RepliesI just have a couple of quick questions regarding the 500MB anytime mobile internet browsing per month which I got included in my plan. When I use my Hero to go on the internet via my wifi at home- when it connects to my wireless router- does that count towards the 500mb or is that totally free? If so, is it the 3G when I don't have a wifi connection available that goes towards that 500mb? Sorry if it's a little obvious, but I don't wanna be going over my limit on internet and be paying a stupidly high amount!

Is anyone aware of an app that will allow you to connect to the internet through a USB dongle attached to the phone? My reasons for wanting to do this are that in general Internet access is expensive here in SA and I am on a contract phone with no data but I do have a top up option, which gives me 100MB/month for an equivalent of 6.50/month! But I also have a USB dongle on PAY which I use for normal internet access on my computer, this costs me about 30.00 for 2GB of data, it would be quite handy if I could use the USB dongle for my phone whilst I am at home. I do not have a wireless router at home.
View 1 Replies View RelatedPurchased my Desire 2 days ago and it has been working fine on wi-fi and mobile internet. Today though I can't get any mobile internet - intermittently telling me 'Orange internet disabled'. Doesn't matter where I go and other half's Sony Ericsson is still getting a good connection with Orange. Mobile network is enabled in settings, no difference whether network is WCDMA/GSM/auto. What's going on??!? Can someone advise please.
PROBLEM SOLVED - somehow the APN had been changed to Orange Internet Disabled so restoring default setting seemed to sort it. No idea why it set itself to 'disabled' though. Can't reproduce it myself anyway!
Excuse me if this is due to my poor understanding of mobile internet. When in my office at work the signal bars on my phone will be either 2 or 3 out of 4. The 3G icon is also present. When, For example, I try to go onto the Market the connection seems very poor. The 3G icon will get the arrows showing that 3G data is being transferred and sometimes it will drop down to a H icon.I then get the message "A network error has occurred, retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen".This happens with all other apps, internet etc as well.I bought the phone with a orange PAYG from Carphone warehouse and put my Orange Monthly pay sim in.When I am outside or even in a different area of the office the internet works fine.If my phone was showing 1 bar and no 3G icon I would accept that it is just too bad signal in the office but as I have nearly full signal and the 3G icon is there another problem?
View 6 Replies View RelatedPurchased a HTC Wildfire the other week and i didn't know it was contracted to 3 network so i paid to unlock it so i could put my orange SIM inside it. However after connecting my phone to my router via WiFi all seemed well until i went out and attempted to use my mobile Internet. I've set up the vpn for Orange Internet but still not able to use browser market etc. Wondering if anyone has ideas?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq laptop running windows 7 and a Desire that I want to tether (via USB).HTC sync (latest version) is installed, and I have checked with Orange who tell me my package allows this, but they don't support Android phones.I have set the phone to Internet Sharing and its all enabled. The internet works fine on the phone. The laptop recognises the phone and gives it network adaptor status, but not a lot else. I've tried to set it as a home, work or public network, but it never gets internet access. I've switched off my firewall (Dit Defender) which made no difference. The troubleshooter eventually states "The DNS server is not responding".I can't find anything on the forums, so any tips or things I'm missing?
View 36 Replies View RelatedGot my Desire 3 days ago now and everything has been working well. I bought it on contract from orange so when I received the phone I gave them the PAC code so that I could keep my old o2 phone number. That change took effect today and ever since my mobile internet hasn't been working. Would this be a problem with the phone itself or do I need to give orange a ring when I get a chance?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just found this on my phone. What is it, is it to use my phones. Data allowance on a PC or laptop. Something like a dongle for mobile broadband. Do I just connect USB to phone and com press start and then it uses my 1gb off my phone data?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've done a search but I can't find a definitive answer.I got the unlock code but it just stays on the unlocking sim screen as per buggy Orange ROM.I don't have an Orange SIM though so is it possible to unlock it without this or will I have to source a SIM?
View 16 Replies View RelatedProbably an old question, but if I want to get rid of the crummy Orange World "Internet" icon on my Desire, what are the options (other than rooting at the moment)?
Change to Opera/Dolphin or similar?
A nicer icon?
A nicer widget?
I followed the guide to the letter (gold carded) and received the Network locked screen after installing the HTC ROM ending 405.5 and receiving the updates for 2.1. By the way my Hero is Orange branded with Orange SIM and the product number is 99HHM022-00. Apart from waiting for Orange to release the update, whats my options? Read through numerous threads, but I'm confused whether an unlock code would work or whether its just better to bite the bullet and go for a Villain ROM that allows apps to install to SD cards. IF I was to go for a Villian ROM would that contain a compatible radio for my Orange phone, and would the Villain ROM work on my Orange branded Hero by just following their guide? I dont really want to have to wipe my phone again if its not going to work, so was just asking you guys for advice?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm the proud owner of an unlocked orange uk hero running on t mobile Austria network. I have heard that the newer heroes cant be unlocked because orange have made a deal with htc and changed the codes. I must have been lucky because mine unlocked no problem with the code received from the impel number. My question is if i update the Rom with the orange Rom version on the htc homepage will my phone become Sim locked again, and more worrying will i not be able to unlock it again when it has the new Rom on it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling for nearly 8 weeks (since Christmas Day) to try and get my Orange Hero unlocked (without rooting it). Orange insisted i had to be a customer for 3 months before they would give me a code but still would not refund the 20 they originally took for the code. So now i am trying to spread the word that it can be done pretty quickly for less than 10. Always a good idea to have HTC Sync (you can get this on the HTC website).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've seen a few threads from people having issues with the latest orange rom (2.73.61.66) but have yet to find anyone with the issue i'm having.
Basically, i keep getting an error message saying something like:
"this process has stopped unexpectedly"
giving the only option to force close. When it is force closed the same message pops up again. and again. and again. The only way to stop it is to either battle against the message and hope you can hit the power down button, or to pop the battery.
Sometimes it throws up other messages similar to the above one but for specific applications (ie sense, google talk..whatever..) but these never come alone, they always bring the original force close message.
Anyway, i've been onto orange and, tho i'm very pissed off, they have been good. they set me a replacement handset in less than 24 hrs (as they thought it might be a screen malfunction) which i was buzzing over until i got the same message! gutted. After talking to their tech support he suggested a hard reset followed by not adding any apps to the phone, so now i have a stock hero with stock apps and i'm waiting to see if i get a similar message...but in the mean time does anyone know of any possible conflicting applications? here is a list of the market apps i have used:
"Audio manager widget"
"beebplayer"
"Battery widget"
"Replica island"
"gStrings guitar tuner"
"Hoccer"
"Google sky map"
"Astro file manager"
"TV guide free uk"
"Ringdroid"
"Free advanced task manager"
It seems weird to me that i had no issues what so ever before upgrading the rom.
Don't know if this has been mentioned but Orange maps is now available to download for the Hero. Working a treat on mine
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a BeHero + v1.2 Rom, 2.1 android, on an Orange unlocked Hero, and using 3 Network sim. What's your opinion about this one, good & bad points, and if there are better Roms to choose, more battery time, and all features working, like google maps, sat nav, etc. I'm a bit new to this, and trying to find my way around.
View 5 Replies View RelatedReceived a voicemail on my orange hero yesterday, so dragged the icon down from the top left of screen to activate the voicemail which it did as advertised. Once the phone connected to orange voicemail, the little green android appeared on the screen as normal due to the fact that a call was in progress. I was then given the normal options by the voicemail recorded message, PRESS 1 FOR ect. So here's my question! how the hell do you access the keypad to make the options? Iv'e tried every option I can think of! It appears that you can't do anything if the phone is in a call.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo far I have had a really bad exp with Orange, can't really flaw the handset but found so many problems with their service.
(People say 'Three' are bad but the last 18mo with them have been a dream compared to the week with Orange)
Any thoughts? Do you reckon T-Mob are any better than Orange or about the same?
Still looking into which phone to buy myself, but I just found this on my travels:
ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero (Orange)
Obviously, I can't try it myself, but it would seem Orange users can now upgrade in a more... official manner (thanks to Centaur291173 over on the XDA forums for actually posting about it).
Flashed villain today, all working fine. Like a plank, I didn't back up my Orange Maps app cos I thought I'd D'L it again from Orange once villain5.3 was working ok. Since the new ROM has been on, I go to the D'L link on Oranges' website, but it says my phone is not compliant and Orange Maps won't work on my phone.
