Sep 10, 2010I had a HTC hero on the orange network so its basically a orange handset, is there anyway i can unlock it so my friend can have it and use his orange sim card in it? my local phone shop tried to unlock it but they said the place they used failed, has anyone done this successfully? before the shop had it he couldnt even access the menu with his voda simcard in but now he can but he just cant make or recieve calls theres just an cross on the signal bar and a sim card symbol with a '!'

Feb 3, 2010I want to unlock htc hero from orange. I have the unlock code which does not work due to bug in rom.
As of now i dont have a orange sim and my hero is reset to factory settings . so i always see a screen asking me to insert sim card.
My question is can i still go ahead and downgrade my rom and install modaco 2.9 to unlock my mobile?

Feb 11, 2010I've done a search but I can't find a definitive answer.I got the unlock code but it just stays on the unlocking sim screen as per buggy Orange ROM.I don't have an Orange SIM though so is it possible to unlock it without this or will I have to source a SIM?

Jul 23, 2010I am toying with the idea of putting a Froyo Rom on my desire, but have several questions that aren't answered in other posts.
1. Will I need to unlock my phone before, during or after changing the Rom? I am not overly bothered by the orange stuff on my phone, but am worried about losing my WiFi connections!
2. Do I need a goldcard? Some instructions say yes, other no. None mention orange handsets specifically.
3. Which is the easiest & safest method to root my phone, if I want to put the Froyo Rom on it?
4. What if I want to change Roms - do I need to do the whole process again? I've seen something about a Rom manager, but where do you get it and how does it work?
5. Which Rom do I use? I've looked at some I'd the modacco forum ROMs, but most don't actually say what you do or don't get with them.
6. What's that difference between a2sd and a2sd+? Does it come as part of the ROM or so I news to get it separately?

Nov 22, 2009I managed to unlock my HTC Tattoo which was locked to Orange UK (still locked!). Thanks to my friend who adviced to try one of those i-SmartSim 2008 SIM Card Unlock Attachment for Nokia and Most Other Cell Phones I used I-SmartSim and it works with Vodafone now!I am so happy as have all Google applications installed too.

I've heard that there are many ways to unlock it, but as far as I know they all result in the disabling of the 3G network, which I really don't want to happen. I want to unlock so that I can use it with a Tesco mobile SIM, who use the o2 network.

Jul 20, 2010I followed the guide to the letter (gold carded) and received the Network locked screen after installing the HTC ROM ending 405.5 and receiving the updates for 2.1. By the way my Hero is Orange branded with Orange SIM and the product number is 99HHM022-00. Apart from waiting for Orange to release the update, whats my options? Read through numerous threads, but I'm confused whether an unlock code would work or whether its just better to bite the bullet and go for a Villain ROM that allows apps to install to SD cards. IF I was to go for a Villian ROM would that contain a compatible radio for my Orange phone, and would the Villain ROM work on my Orange branded Hero by just following their guide? I dont really want to have to wipe my phone again if its not going to work, so was just asking you guys for advice?

I have a great wifi signal but when i try and go onto the Internet IE goggle etc i just get a default orange message saying it needs to go onto an orange network to access the Internet. I have heard that the newer heroes cant be unlocked because orange have made a deal with htc and changed the codes. I must have been lucky because mine unlocked no problem with the code received from the impel number. My question is if i update the Rom with the orange Rom version on the htc homepage will my phone become Sim locked again, and more worrying will i not be able to unlock it again when it has the new Rom on it?

Feb 18, 2010I have been struggling for nearly 8 weeks (since Christmas Day) to try and get my Orange Hero unlocked (without rooting it). Orange insisted i had to be a customer for 3 months before they would give me a code but still would not refund the 20 they originally took for the code. So now i am trying to spread the word that it can be done pretty quickly for less than 10. Always a good idea to have HTC Sync (you can get this on the HTC website).

Apr 17, 2010I've seen a few threads from people having issues with the latest orange rom (2.73.61.66) but have yet to find anyone with the issue i'm having.
Basically, i keep getting an error message saying something like:
"this process has stopped unexpectedly"
giving the only option to force close. When it is force closed the same message pops up again. and again. and again. The only way to stop it is to either battle against the message and hope you can hit the power down button, or to pop the battery.
Sometimes it throws up other messages similar to the above one but for specific applications (ie sense, google talk..whatever..) but these never come alone, they always bring the original force close message.
Anyway, i've been onto orange and, tho i'm very pissed off, they have been good. they set me a replacement handset in less than 24 hrs (as they thought it might be a screen malfunction) which i was buzzing over until i got the same message! gutted. After talking to their tech support he suggested a hard reset followed by not adding any apps to the phone, so now i have a stock hero with stock apps and i'm waiting to see if i get a similar message...but in the mean time does anyone know of any possible conflicting applications? here is a list of the market apps i have used:

"beebplayer"
"Battery widget"
"Replica island"
"gStrings guitar tuner"
"Hoccer"
"Google sky map"
"Astro file manager"

It seems weird to me that i had no issues what so ever before upgrading the rom.

Oct 31, 2009Received a voicemail on my orange hero yesterday, so dragged the icon down from the top left of screen to activate the voicemail which it did as advertised. Once the phone connected to orange voicemail, the little green android appeared on the screen as normal due to the fact that a call was in progress. I was then given the normal options by the voicemail recorded message, PRESS 1 FOR ect. So here's my question! how the hell do you access the keypad to make the options? Iv'e tried every option I can think of! It appears that you can't do anything if the phone is in a call.
