HTC Hero :: New User And Member Assistance Required

Apr 9, 2010

I have some specific questions, I have tried to read every single thread I can and considering I have only had the HTC Hero for 2 days I feel Im pretty clued up.My first concern if anybody would like to advise me..is internal memory. I have had the phone 2 days and only have 81 mb of internal memory left. I have just ordered a class 4 8G SD Card with adaptor, plus a USB reader for it....Now my question are:

1. when these items arrive should I partition the card? if so which method is the safest and "least" technical to ad apps2sd.....

2. With the supposed arrival of 2.1 (Im currently running cupcake 1.5), is it worth adding a new ROM to my Phone? I am not suffering any lag as yet so is it worth it?

3. How much data usage does streaming radio on Radio Time use up listening to it for an hour or so? (that one is just a shot in the dark if anybody has any ideas!

4, What benefits does Dolphin provide over the standard browser?

5. Are the any apps that improve the Camcorder cos boy does that thing suck?

I have just moved over from a Symbian Sony Ericcson and I am astonished with the Hero. I may be a little behind the times but its a solid user friendly awesome phone. I hope 2.1 lives up to its expectations (and provides Flash 10.

I received a Mugen Power 3.7v 1800mAH li-Polymer battery for the HTC Hero (Sprint) which my phone will not seem to charge. I place the battery into the phone and the second it touches the charger the LED's flash between green and orange. When I use the phones power tool it says the batteries health was "Overheat." It will also say that when not plugged in.

I am using ROM manager. I am using a stock 2.2 after update. I rooted with unrevoked. So, I am trying to back this up. When I choose a name for it, it turns into the dreaded white EVO 4G screen and never does anything until I pull battery, and reboot the phone.I guess it's safe to say this is not going to work and I have to manually do the backup, etc? With all those steps. You see, what I want to do is put Fresh on my EVO ...dab a little in custom ROMS.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Worst Battery Killer - Prevents Sleeping From Cold Boot - No Interaction Required

May 24, 2010

Merely turning your phone on may be enough to prevent it from sleeping. What I'm about to tell you is 100% repeatable. I've done it about ten times now; it has happened every time. I'm running the stock Android 2.1 ROM from Sprint. <Background> When Android boots, it preloads a huge number of apps into RAM. Essentially, it's starting JVM processes and loading the classes of applications without actually executing any of their code. Android does this to reduce the lag you would feel when activating one of these apps. These preloaded apps are said to be EMPTY. There's no real penalty for preloading these apps since they're loaded in the background in otherwise idle CPU cycles and their processes will be terminated as needed to free up RAM for applications you begin using. </Background>

Although it should be impossible, one of those preloaded apps is preventing the Hero from sleeping. By process of elimination, I have found which one it is: Footprints.............

Android :: Softkeyboard Development Assistance

Sep 11, 2010

I have two android related needs:

1. I am trying to create a soft keyboard for android. I need someone to help me create the template for it: the service, the touch event capturing and sending of characters and sensing of the text buffer. Based on google's published document this seems to be standard stuff, for someone familiar with the platform. I will fill in the logic for the keyboard myself. So this is not a huge job, but a few hours of consulting dollars.

2. We are two programmers, trying to learn android. We are looking for a tutor of sort, whom we can pay hourly and talk to or skype with 2-3 hours a week. again, not a huge job, but a little money on the side.If you feel up to it, please contact me.

Android :: Assistance With Large Datasets

May 24, 2009

I must have searched high and low for the answer to my problem.I've even spent around $100 on books hoping that one of them would cover it alas it was not the case.I have approximately 50000 records in a database table. All I want to do is display them in a list-view so you can scroll through them.I dare say I will need to lazily load them as you scroll through the list - my question is how and can it be done through a content provider? I noticed the SlowAdapter in the APIDemos that appears to do exactly the kind of thing that I am looking for, but Im unsure of the correct method for requerying the content provider with the new limit criteria (or at all via a ContentProvider). Do I need to create a new cursor and merge it with the previous one as I scroll down?

Motorola Droid X :: Root Froyo OTA - Assistance

Sep 23, 2010

I tried the easy root instructions here:

How to: Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

The entire process only took 30 seconds or so.

I suspect adb is not installed, or the sdk is not installed completely. My phone still is on, and appears normal, and is still plugged into the pc.

How can I check to see if it is indeed rooted, and if not, how to I install adb (link?) so it does root properly?

Sprint HTC Hero :: User Dilemma Root Or Upgrade To 2.1?

Sep 25, 2010

I am trying to decide about either keeping my current HTC Hero (Firmware Version 1.5) or switching to the iPHONE. On the iPHONE, I am trying to figure out if I want the new iTOUCH or the new iPHONE. The problem is, the decision is dependent on my HTC Hero.I like the Hero, but it just feels like something is "Lacking" or "Missing." But I can't explain it.I have read on these forums here and there about how people have rooted there phone and how amazing it works and is compared to the official firmware out there.I don't know much about rooting when it comes to Android. The closest thing I can think of that might be similar in nature is when I had a jailbroken iPOD TOUCH.So now I am trying to figure out, to make my current HTC Hero "Better" or check it out the way it was meant to be, do I root it, or do I officially upgrade to 2.1?If you happen to recommend rooting, I am hoping there is a simple way of doing it. If I am not mistaken, I believe there are multiple version to root to, so which one do I use and how do I go about rooting to it?

HTC Hero :: New User / Application Downloads And Homepage Setup

I'm new to any touch screen phone technology and got my HTC Hero yesterday. I've played around with it and followed the instructions in the leaflet it came with. I have managed to use it to open up webpages including my usual email provider/facebook and have bookmarked them. I have inserted my numbers into the address book (and managed to sync with facebook for photos/birthdays), send SMS, make phone calls but that is it! In simple terms: how can I find apps and download them, does it always work through WiFi, how can I take things off the homepage (I have managed to install the (empty) playlist to the homepage but cannot remove it.
