Android :: Softkeyboard Development Assistance

Sep 11, 2010

I have two android related needs:

1. I am trying to create a soft keyboard for android. I need someone to help me create the template for it: the service, the touch event capturing and sending of characters and sensing of the text buffer. Based on google's published document this seems to be standard stuff, for someone familiar with the platform. I will fill in the logic for the keyboard myself. So this is not a huge job, but a few hours of consulting dollars.

2. We are two programmers, trying to learn android. We are looking for a tutor of sort, whom we can pay hourly and talk to or skype with 2-3 hours a week. again, not a huge job, but a little money on the side.If you feel up to it, please contact me.

Android :: Can I Get Assistance Using Google Maps API?

Aug 8, 2010

I am having trouble attaining the md5 certificate from the debug keytool.I have looked at the pages and read THOROUGHLY and still I'm stuck after finding the debug.keystore path. They said execute with keytool but I have no idea what that is and where. That's the part that I'm stuck at. Can someone please help me as I'm desperate for the solution and have been requesting the same assistance but with no luck Thanks in advance.

Android :: Assistance With Large Datasets

May 24, 2009

I must have searched high and low for the answer to my problem.I've even spent around $100 on books hoping that one of them would cover it alas it was not the case.I have approximately 50000 records in a database table. All I want to do is display them in a list-view so you can scroll through them.I dare say I will need to lazily load them as you scroll through the list - my question is how and can it be done through a content provider? I noticed the SlowAdapter in the APIDemos that appears to do exactly the kind of thing that I am looking for, but Im unsure of the correct method for requerying the content provider with the new limit criteria (or at all via a ContentProvider). Do I need to create a new cursor and merge it with the previous one as I scroll down?

I am using ROM manager. I am using a stock 2.2 after update. I rooted with unrevoked. So, I am trying to back this up. When I choose a name for it, it turns into the dreaded white EVO 4G screen and never does anything until I pull battery, and reboot the phone.I guess it's safe to say this is not going to work and I have to manually do the backup, etc? With all those steps. You see, what I want to do is put Fresh on my EVO ...dab a little in custom ROMS.

Motorola Droid X :: Root Froyo OTA - Assistance

Sep 23, 2010

I tried the easy root instructions here:

How to: Root DROID X Running Official Android 2.2 - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

when the bat was running, it kept telling me that adb was not a valid command.

The entire process only took 30 seconds or so.

I suspect adb is not installed, or the sdk is not installed completely. My phone still is on, and appears normal, and is still plugged into the pc.

How can I check to see if it is indeed rooted, and if not, how to I install adb (link?) so it does root properly?

HTC Hero :: New User And Member Assistance Required

Apr 9, 2010

I have some specific questions, I have tried to read every single thread I can and considering I have only had the HTC Hero for 2 days I feel Im pretty clued up.My first concern if anybody would like to advise me..is internal memory. I have had the phone 2 days and only have 81 mb of internal memory left. I have just ordered a class 4 8G SD Card with adaptor, plus a USB reader for it....Now my question are:

1. when these items arrive should I partition the card? if so which method is the safest and "least" technical to ad apps2sd.....

2. With the supposed arrival of 2.1 (Im currently running cupcake 1.5), is it worth adding a new ROM to my Phone? I am not suffering any lag as yet so is it worth it?

3. How much data usage does streaming radio on Radio Time use up listening to it for an hour or so? (that one is just a shot in the dark if anybody has any ideas!

4, What benefits does Dolphin provide over the standard browser?

5. Are the any apps that improve the Camcorder cos boy does that thing suck?

I have just moved over from a Symbian Sony Ericcson and I am astonished with the Hero. I may be a little behind the times but its a solid user friendly awesome phone. I hope 2.1 lives up to its expectations (and provides Flash 10.

Android :: Softkeyboard Visible In Landscape Mode?

Jan 15, 2010

I wanted a way to find out whether a softkeyboard is visible at any given time.

If I set the windowSoftInputMode property to adjustResize, I receive resize events in the portrait mode (onSizeChanged gets called). I use these events to find out whether the softkeyboard is visible or not. But I get no resize events in the landscape mode (Android SDK 2.0). Do I need to set some property explicitly to get these events in the landscape mode.

Also when the application switches between landscape and portrait, the application gets resize events. So to find out whether the keyboard is actually visible, I would need to differentiate between the 2 resize events.

So in short, is there a cleaner way (other than resize events) to find out whether the soft keyboard is visible? And if resize is the only way, how can I turn it on for landscape mode?

Android :: Does Droid Determine Whether To Move Layout Up When Showing Softkeyboard?

Sep 6, 2010

How does Android determine whether to move the layout up when showing the softkeyboard?

Note: I am aware that the activity property android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize|adjustResize|adjustUnspecified"
exists, as described here http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/activity-element.html#wsoft
, but in my case it doesn't seem to have any effect. This is my problem:

I have two activities, pretty much the same layout, but the first one is using a ListView that holds a list of buttons. The second activity holds a scrollview with buttons.
The rest is the same, same number of buttons, same height of elements, etc.

Now, when I press the search button to open the search input bar, in my first activity, the entire layouts gets moved up.
While on the second activity, the layout is not being moved up but the softkeyboard just displays on top of it. This is actually how I want it to behave. How can I achieve the same with my activity that's using the ListView?

In my manifest, initially I didn't specify any android:windowSoftInputMode attribute, but even if I do, it doesn't make any difference; I tried all three values (adjustPan, adjustResize, adjustUndefined, without any difference).

This is my layout:

1) http://pastebin.com/5zzVxjbK

2) http://pastebin.com/KFtPuHvP

Interestingly though: when I set my ListView visibility in my layout 1 (left) to View.INVISIBLE, then the layout doesn not get moved up!
