HTC Hero :: Mobile Phones Direct Deal
Aug 1, 2009
I have been looking for a good deal on the Hero. I found the website mobilephonesdirect.co.uk, and they are offering the Hero at 25 for 24 months on Vodafone with 100 mins and 500 txts and unlimited internet. The phone is free and it looks like a great deal. Does anyone have any experience of comments on dealing with these guys?

Just a quick question to those who have brought the Desire from mobilephonesdirect.com on a T-mobile contract. What data allowance have you got? Have you got the standard 3Gb T-mob gives to Android phones or have you got less? I have browsed their site and under their 'unlimited mobile internet' it says 1Gb.

Is there anyone out there that has obtained a Desire direct from T-Mobile (UK) proper, rather than buying an unbranded one and sticking a T-Mobile SIM in it? If so, could one of you try popping a non-T-Mob SIM in it and see if the phone comes SIM-locked or not for me please?

Install Android on your HTC Windows Mobile phones - Kongtechnology.com. Google, the land of milk and honey, have smashed open the smartphone market when they released their Android platform for free to developers and in one fell swoop, gave a huge stride forward for smartphones everywhere. Traditionally, the smartphone market relied on specific operating systems such as Nokias Symbian, Palms PalmOS and Apple with their iPhone OS. Each company fights to keep their software on their own phones and the result is that a person is locked into using only phones from a particular company if they are familiar with the software. As they say, you cant have your pie and eat it.

I'm planning on building an application where audio media is going to be streamed to the mobile phone for the user to listen. The targets are smartphones: iPhone/Blackberry/Android/(J2ME ?).I see that streaming on iPhone has to be done with HTTP Live streaming, but I don't see it supported by other platforms.Should I broadcast the streams via rstp ? http ? Is there any way to use a unified solution for all the different mobile platform ? If anyone already had to go through this, help would be greatly appreciated.

I am interested in implementing an Augmented Reality application for mobile phones using Adobe Flash Platform.
Can you please let me know if any sources is available for me to find out how to start? I'm not sure what software I need to use to implement AR but as I can understand I need: ARToolKit Marker Generator to create the marker matching with the 3D image, then FLARToolKit to analyze the image from the marker and Papervision3D to create an object that shares that same space with the marker. Can you please let me know if what I wrote is correct and advise me how to start the implementation on Adobe Flash platform?

irect reI am planning on getting THIS HTC Desire contract from Mobile Phones Direct, this will be my first ever contract phone and my first ever android phone, I am planning on getting this deal: I have a few questions: Are Mobile Phones D liable on a non redemption contract like this? Is this a good deal? I know that T-Mobile has recently changed its contract to say its 3GB FUP is only for its direct customers but if I got this contract and phoned them up and said I have an android what are the chances I could talk them into putting me on the 3GB FUP instead of the 1GB? and finally if the above is a no then is there any speed difference between those on the 1GB UP and those on the 3GB FUP? If you can help me with these questions then thank you very very much, this is my first contract and I don't want to mess it up.

Sweeter Home 2 is the most innovated, customizable home replacement software I've seen, but it is only available for 1.6 & 2.0. We need this for the Hero, Eris, and other 1.5 phones? Please help get Sweeter Home 2 released for the 1.5. The dev team will release a build for 1.5 if enough people click the link below and submit a comment asking for it: Running Android 1.5 and can't install the beta? : sweeterskins.net themes and news about Sweeter Home More info: sweeterskins.net themes and news about Sweeter It's unlike any other home replacement, allows you to store apps in different trays that pop-up at a click of the button, add custom calendars to the home screen, add chat and sms blocks to home screen, everything and I mean everything on the screen is customizable. Just check out some of the themes people are developing: Sweeter Home Theme:Bumble Bee http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/35548-offical-post-sweeterhome-2-themes.html

When I first plugged in my ear phones into my first Hero phone after a while (5 min) the songs shuttled and turned itself off. I tried to listen to some music again but the phone didn?t recognise that the ear phones were plugged in after that. I sent that phone back and got a new phone. I was going to wait until 2.1 OS came out but when I heard that it wasn?t coming out till March I thought I might try this new phone out been as though I have had it for a couple of months without listening to any music (expected the same though). And the same happen again. It sounds like its the 1.5 OS or the ROM not updated yet because I had already set up all the phone before I realised I had to do this. So thats why I decided to wait until 2.1 and get it all over with and hope it solves the problem.

I'll number these questions to make answering easier. 1) I'm only looking at GSM phones, I'm thinking about buying the hero on ebay next week. I'm wondering if I should wait for the GSM moto droid or a GSM htc passion. Or just get the hero now. The benifits of waiting for me personally is faster hardware, and better screen/resolution. The downfalls of waiting is I could be waiting a long time for a GSM version of those phones. 2) The biggest thing that concerns me is about buying the hero is performance. I have a iphone 2g and what pisses me off about it is the performance, and that it has no multitasking. If I get the hero I don't want the performance to bother me. I have no issues if I need taskiller to close a few apps every now and then to keep the performance good. I'd like to know if performance is a real problem, or just a minor annoyance. 3) Is the "jump to letter" feature in the music player? for example can I jump to the music artists that begin with Y, instead of scrolling from the top all the way down? 4) Is there a button to show your currently running apps? or your most recent apps? If so, which is it? running or recent? Can you launch apps from that screen? 5) Is the warranty on the European GSM hero valid in the United States? Is the warranty card that comes with the phone used for anything? do you need it to have a warranty on your phone? What does it say on it?
