I just found this on my phone. What is it, is it to use my phones. Data allowance on a PC or laptop. Something like a dongle for mobile broadband. Do I just connect USB to phone and com press start and then it uses my 1gb off my phone data?

The new reviews of the Incredible mention that it has support for tethering via a "Mobile Broadband Connect" option. However the reviews didn't know if there was an extra cost service plan associated with this. Are there other ways to tether. Things like pedant or other. Is rooting required?
View 26 Replies View RelatedI've rooted my Eris and have am wanting to use the Wired Tether app. For whatever reason, I cannot get my Windows 7 PC to connect to it. If somebody could walk me through the steps to get it connected, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have searched and come up empty on results. People say it asks to update/install drivers, it needs ndis drivers, etc, but I'm not sure exactly what all that means or even how to do it. For example, to even get to that point, which option do I select on my Eris when I connect it? Sync? Charge only?

Both upload and download were 0.02mbps. (My wifi speed was, as I expected, my normal 9mbps.) Mobile broadband is really poor - hardly usable.
View 35 Replies View RelatedI can't get a fully functioning data connection on my Galaxy S through my current SIM card. I can browse with Opera (which doesn't seem to care what the APN settings are) but nothing else works, (unless I get a wifi connection, which works fine). The problem may or may not disappear when I move countries soon (to Indonesia) but I'd like to understand what's going on.
I bought it in Singapore - it's got a SingTel setup (sticker on the back, boot screen, links on home) but it's supposed to be unlocked (and SingTel say they sell them unlocked too). A guy at the Samsung service center in Singapore said it was "locked" for other countries though because they don't yet have the Galaxy S - but once phone companies have the right settings for the phone it should be fine. I used it with a different Singapore phone company (StarHub) with a data plan for a couple of days that worked fine. I browsed and used the Google Maps app, no problem.
Then the problem. I came to Malaysia a week ago and bought a Maxis SIM card. At their service center they entered the APN settings (they already sell the Galaxy S), and the internet worked when I tested it on a few pages. 30 min later I tried again and got nothing, and it didn't come back. I returned to the service center, they made small changes to the settings, and it worked again... for a few minutes only. Then I discovered that I can browse in Opera - even if I use dummy APN settings (random numbers in one field and everything else blank or default).
However after I restarted the phone again, I couldn't repeat the success. I stopped unneeded apps, I uninstalled NimBuzz, I tried restarting over and over... but I get no connection other than with Opera. I've tried other internet apps (Maps, sync in GTasks, OkCupid, NimBuzz) and none work. Any clues as to what's going on?
Has anyone got it working yet on 2.2? Also I am rooted so if there is an application please I need it.

I installed HTCsync and the specified driver, but when I switch it to internet sharing I get "Error code 67. Registration failure. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect".rk?

easy tether just plain doesn't work not sure why I think it's cause I am on windows 7 x64. Now I found a couple out of the market that also don't work android-wired-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code not sure how to get it to work and this azilink - Project Hosting on Google Code. This I got as far as trying to load it and I get OpenVPNClient start azilink_p1634: process started and then immediately exited: []. I like pdanet but it just keeps dropping connection.

View 23 Replies View RelatedSo I loaded the new release of froyo petes v.04 and earlier when trying to use the built in wired tether option it defaults to a web-page about upgrading to a tethering plan. It says that they are offering it for $5 off until july 15th. Wireless tether still works fine but just wanted to know if anybody else got this message when using the built in program on the new froyo release. I was able to use this option in the earlier versions of froyo without the message. Update, so I completely missed this already reported on phandroid so I guess I was just getting the message others have already reported.

It was included as one of the default apps, yet I can't get it to work on 7 Ultimate, XP Pro, or OS 10.6. I'm going to be in the car for a few hours today with a thinkpad running XP Pro, and I wanted to try out wired tether. When I plug in the phone just for charging, a new driver is entered as Android Phone and I'm fairly sure Android Dev Bridge. When I start wired tether, those devices disappear and and a USB device that cannot start or has the wrong drivers is on the bottom of the screen. When I used wired tether (internet sharing) in EE 2.0.1, all OS's would immediately set up the phone as an NIC connected to the internet with the exception of XP which needed the correct drivers. With wired tether in ivan's official, I get nothing; no driver setup screen or any connection.

But when I want to connect my computer to the internet via the phone I turn on network sharing and see the phone listed in network connections but it just says "acquiring network address" forever and I dont seem to be able to connect. I'm on an unbranded legend bought and used in Taiwan, unlimited 3G, Windows xp sp3.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Fab's NexTheme ROM that has Wired and Wireless Tether. Problem is Wired Tether doesn't work for me. The program runs without a problem, but my laptop that is connected to the Droid via USB cable doesn't access the Internet. Drivers and what not are all updated - just curious to know what the problem is. Funny thing is that when connected via USB normally, my laptop recognizes my Droid with no problem. It's only when I run the Wired Tether program that all of a sudden my laptop no longer recognizes my phone and, as a result, won't access the Internet.

The WiFi tether works fine but I want a way to tether with wired so it doesn't eat up my Ally's battery. I seen this: android-wired-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code. But it requires RNDIS kernel (or whatever it is), and apparently the kernel I have loaded doesn't have this. Any other options or is there I can get the RNDIS kernal on my Ally? Yes, I realize it requires an app. I'm asking for a free alternative and NOT a paid one.

1. How do I know If there is an update for the specific root I used? and to update will I lose everything?
2. I can't seem to get usb tether to work. pdanet works but I want all access. the wired-tether-root program. It runs on my Eris, but doesn't access the net. xp x86 and 7 x64. I have two root required wireless applications installed that work perfectly, I just want a usb app too.
3. If the rooted ROM I used isn't the best, can I get some opinions as to what to try?r making this possible for us all!

I had played around yesterday to try old different things to extend battery life and must have changed something dang it! I tried menu-->wireless&networks-->mobile networks-->enable always on....and marked it. and I also tried to unmark it.
when I click on mobile broadband connection it says "connect to pc"?
didn't want to do hard reset because I had to put in all contact manually...ugh
I am coming from a BB...lol..so things were more complex. LOVE the Inc but there is so much do click wrong ha ha

View 7 Replies View RelatedIs anyone aware of an app that will allow you to connect to the internet through a USB dongle attached to the phone? My reasons for wanting to do this are that in general Internet access is expensive here in SA and I am on a contract phone with no data but I do have a top up option, which gives me 100MB/month for an equivalent of 6.50/month! But I also have a USB dongle on PAY which I use for normal internet access on my computer, this costs me about 30.00 for 2GB of data, it would be quite handy if I could use the USB dongle for my phone whilst I am at home. I do not have a wireless router at home.

I then tried Wireless Tether and was able to connect at only 11-24 mbps. I have had the Sprint Mobile Hotspot up until now, but was getting 54 mbps out of that.
