View 5 RepliesI am using Europian unlocked htc hero and it got Android 2.1 update 3 weeks back OTA, is it possible to update it to Android 2.2 through rooting and with any custom ROM available? I have never done rooting and new to it, would it be possible to to get it back to original factory settings after rooting?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a new Hero about a month ago. Last weekend, it basically restored itself to factory settings. All my contacts are gone, all the apps I downloaded had gone, text messages, calendar, the lot. It was as if I had pushed a button and reset the phone. Now, little by little, stuff has come back. I logged back into my google account and I would assume the calendar syncs with the google calendar as all my appointments are back. The Google account also remembered which apps I had and I redownloaded them. However, the contacts and the text messages have never come back. Is this a known issue? Is my phone possibly faulty and needs to be returned? I'm so confused. I do love this phone but I am not putting up with a phone which I cannot rely upon.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI took my Hero to Sprint because I was having picture mail and sound issues. They told me to wait for the 2.1 update that is coming 4-9. If I believe this, I'd better unroot my phone. I have read about problems with unrooting. Does anyone have any reliable instructions as to how to put my hero back to factory settings?
View 35 Replies View RelatedMy phone died in the middle of taking video. Came home a couple hours later, plugged my phone into the charger. I turned the phone on, after it was plugged in. My phone froze during the little HTC and Hero intro. After the freeze, it was back on, but my screens were all back to factory settings! It also asked me to calibrate my keyboard, and the little popup bubbles to guide the user with their "new phone" came up! All my apps were gone!! I lost ALL of my contacts! The only thing that stayed was my pictures and videos. It doesn't make any sense to me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow to flash the ROM back to the original factory setup.
The instructions say:
Download the "Stock Asus Rom-and-bootloader.zip" available in the "Download" Section.
It includes the Asus Vcom Drivers, Flash Tools and the Stock Firmware (Rom, Locked Bootloader, etc)
Tablet MUST BE TURNED OFF, and with full battery The VCOMM Drivers MUST be installed
Then it has you connect the tablet to a PC. Do I download the .zip file to the PC? Do I install the VCOMM drivers to the Memo Pad HD 7??

I will acknowledge that this is very insignificant, but for some reason it is driving me crazy. When I first got this phoe, I deleted the original espn, cnn and facebook shortcuts that came preloaded on the right screen. I have since come to realize that I check espn A LOT and I wanted the shortcut back there. So I added a bookmark, but the original icon that came preloaded just looked a lot better, does anyone know if there is a way to get the original icon back without doing a factory reset?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I do factory reset (which means the same as 'wipe', right?) it does resetting current installed ROM to its original state, right?
So, let's say I am doing factory reset the first time (so currently my phone has store ROM installed) so factory reset will revert all the changes in the installed ROM (such as settings, installed apps, all the data) to its original state - which the phone had since it got ROM installed.
But If I got root (which means I replaced secured kernel with unsecured one) and I installed another customized ROM and for some reason I want to do factory reset again - what's gonna happen?
Will factory reset revert original store ROM back or it will revert manually installed ROM (customized ROM) to its after installation?
And as far as I understood factory reset does nothing with kernel? It only affects ROM? So in the second case , when I use non-store ROM and I am doing factory reset - nothing will happen with my unsecured kernel?
There is a guy selling on on my local Craigslist and it is flashed to Cricket. Can this be undone easily and restored to original factory Verizon standard?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems a lot of us are having issues after upping to 2.2. Someone suggested hard reset. My question is simple, will hard reset "restore" EVO back to factory settings, AKA 2.1? I mean when you bought the phone, 2.1 is "baked" in the internal memory. When you update to 2.2, will 2.2 also be "baked" in internal memory so that whenever you hard reset you will always go to 2.2 status? I think it is, but please clarify?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am big with games so I have been wanting to get an overclocking app for the Evo, but all I could find on the Market are apps for the Droid X/2. Is CPUSet the only (or the best) overclocking app for the Evo and what is the max speed you can safely overclock it? I have not rooted my phone, and just learned in order to even overclock it you need to do so. From what I have read on the forums, rooting the phone removes the warrenty. What I have not been able to find is how you back up the factory settings in order to "exploit" this if something happens to the phone in the future. This talks about it a little, but I didn't find any specifics. Quick INTRO TO ROOTING for those new to rooting
Another question I have is how much space do you actually save when it comes to rooting? Some people mainly root just gain complete control of the phone, others to increase/decrease speed and battery life, and some to save space getting rid of things like the Sprint NASCAR app. The Evo has 1G of internal memory, correct? Right now with the different apps I have installed I have 200-250mb free. I never checked what it was out of the box before installing anything, anyone have an answer there? Last question I have is with the different operating systems available. As said in the above thread (link), there are pros and cons with each (Baked, Fresh, etc.). Can anyone tell me of some for each, or is there a thread you can point me to that already does? I could only find info on Cynogon or whatever it's called.
Is vibrant running at 1ghz or 800. someone in the captivate forum suggested the vibrant is underclocked. I don't believe it, especially since my quadrant scores fresh out of the box beat out any quadrant score I've seen so far.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSince updating to Froyo on my Droid X, I've noticed my camera's autofocus won't work at all. I first noticed this because the barcode scanner can't read bar codes anymore because they are too blurry. I want to try a factory wipe to see if that fixes it. I just did a factory wipe 2 weeks ago and it erased all of my applications and settings and was a huge pain to reinstall everything. Is there a way to backup these apps, so I can just automatically re-download them after I do the wipe?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want 2.2 but I removed some stock bloatware apps and my froyo OTAs always fail. Can I get the stock bloat apps back by simply doing a revert to factory settings?
I'm worried that a factory reset won't revert them because I theoretically shouldn't have been able to ever remove "system" apps in the first place. I'd like to hope/think that the developers would have this feature as part of a reset but who knows.
Yesterday my Droid Incredible kept telling me there was an update to my phone. I waited until 8 or 9 hours later and then did the update last night. EVERY single app, contact, messgae, email...everything is GONE...the phone is like the day I got it. I had no warning and I'm beyond devastated. I was able to use Backup Assistant for my contacts, LOTS of pictures are gone, ALL my message threads are gone and on Monday, I'm going to have to reset my Exchange email at work. I've reloaded my personal email and some apps I remember, but I cannot tell you how upset I am.
One of the biggest problems is I don't know what I don't have? I had so many apps, and I don't have a record of them.
Is there some way to back up everything on the phone, all settings, etc, to a website so this never happens again? I am NOT rooted and a I have Froyo 2.2
In error Gmail has disabled my account that I use with the Android Market. Is there anyway to switch accounts in the phone without resetting to factory settings?
