HTC Hero :: Possible Memory Leak - Creating Swap Partition
Dec 5, 2009In Taskiller the amount of free memory is showing between 90-105mb. Is this normal? I have deleted text messages, cleared cache, deleting emails from inbox and trash etc. I going to get rid of a few apps too, but its a bummer if I cant have many apps due to it affecting memory!
Also I understand that if flash it with the Modaco custom ROM. I can create a swap partition, does this help a lot? Also would I lose quite a lot of the HTC Hero features such as Sense UI for example if I flash it with Modaco?

Jul 16, 2010When ever I partition the sdcard it gives the option of installing a swap partition. I know that my ubuntu installation on my laptop installs a swap partition when I installed the operating system. Would there be any benefit for installing a swap partition on the sd card?

1. Editing Vold.Fstab file, but it's impossible because it will not show internal Mount Point.
2. Searched on Play Store and downloaded "External 2 Internal" app and i have installed it, then i have swapped memory, but internal and external shows same values...
3. Downloaded "Link2SD" app and i have created a Ext2 partition on my SD Card... but nothing (shows my memory is emulated)...
I will increase my internal memory because i must download games...

Its been perfectly fine since I installed it over a month ago, but recently my memory card corrupted and now I cannot download any apps off the market.I had an ext2 partition, so I reformatted my memory stick the exact same way it was before it corrupted. Mar 11, 2010I'm the owner of a HTC Hero for three days and I'm already thinking the darn thing isn't worth a penny. I bought it together with a 16gb Sandisk sdhc class 2 card and it keeps damaging the filesystem every day. It starts with the native media player not working correctly (Sorry the player cannot play this audio file), although it could play it like 10 minutes ago, then going on to not even recognizing the sd card anymore (showing Total & Available Space as 00). Unmounting the sd card and then removing & inserting it again then brings up a message that my sd card is damaged and that I should format it, however clicking format doesn't do anything.
The best part about this is that neither of the product reviews I've read showed this issue, although there are so many frustrated android users that keep telling the same story of not-working sd cards. I wonder why neither google nor HTC offer a patch / workaround. It's just not possible that no one noticed this problem during the development process. Is there anyone who has the same issues or can offer some advice? If I can't get this fixed in some days then I'm returning the phone and switch to something that will really work.

How would I go about switching to a larger capacity card? I'm not worried about data files, I know I can copy all of that stuff off the card, but what about any apps or app settings that might be stored on the card? Jan 15, 2010I bought a new 8gb transcend class 6 for my hero and took out the old card and put the new one in and formatted it. Looked at the original 2 gb card and has lots of folders. Question is: do I have to copy and paste the old folders to the new card or will the phone automatically set up new folders? Apr 23, 2010So I was told by a Sprint rep that if the phone memory gets below about 80 MB then the phone will start to lag. Well I can't seem to delete enough stuff to get back above 80 MB available memory, I deleted pics, texts messages and various apps that I would have liked to keep. I started playing with my wife's phone which has more apps then mine, I checked her available phone memory and she has 102 MB!!! I can't figure out what I could have on my phone memory that would be taking up over 20 MB of space. Where can I look to try and figure this out? My wife's phone is very zippy and quick, while my phone waits forever when switching apps.
Also, How do I transfer pics I have taken on my phone to the SD card instead of using phone memory?
