I have a question regarding my new HTC Hero. I bought an unlocked one and are currently using it with Tmobile. My internet works but I am unable to go to the market to get applications. Does anyone know what to do? I already called and spoke to TMobile but they were unable to help me. The message I get is: Can't establish reliable data connection to server.

I get this message every time i try to creat a gmail accout or try to creat one on my phone.I can use the data on my phone to browse theweb so i know the data works. i tried connecting to a wif then trying but that didnt work either.

This time I did a factory-reset (Settings -> Privacy -> Factory reset) and also followed this guide to delete the provider-settings (eventually I removed the whole /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/ directory and not only that file.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use an LG Optimus L4 II (e445). I rooted it but then decided I had too much on it and decided to restore to factory settings. It all worked fine. However, when I got to the Google Account sign in page, it gave me the "couldn't establish a reliable connection to the server" error message. I followed every single tutorial I could find online as to how to solve this. None of them worked. Eventually, I re-rooted it (using VRoot) and managed to download an apk of ES file explorer and locate the hosts file. This had one line that shouldn't have been there:

From what I can make out, this is the address of google's sign in servers. So somehow (I suspect malware/dodgy rooting program?) my hosts file has been edited to stop me logging into google. Restoring the device does nothing, neither does unrooting/rerooting. When I open up the file in ES (when rooted) and edit out the bad lines, I can't save for some reason- I think the /system folder is write protected.
So I tried to make the /system folder writeable. I used the android sdk to do this (mount -o command) but this did not do anything. I downloaded the mount /system apk and installed that, it did not work either. I tried /pull and /push on the hosts file to edit it and send it back using the apk. I could successfully pull and edit it, but it would not let me push it back. I can effectively not use my phone- I can't use most apps and can't download any.
I am on the Nexus 5.I have already looked up about this problem online, but the fixes for this seems to be either a hard reset, a factory reset, or the YouTube trick, where one signs into their gmail through YouTube and fixes this issue.
I have attempted all three of these things, but I still can't add my gmail account. The "Can't connect to server" message still pops, even when trying to sign in through the YouTube app.
I am able to connect 2 phones through Bluetooth. But is it possible to connect through the wireless network?

Is VLC Setup Helper supposed to be open on the computer to establish a connection with my phone? When I'm playing a file in VLC, and open up the phone's app, it won't connect until I open up "VLC Setup Helper". It just seems a hassle to always remember to open up VLC Setup Helper all the time.
I have an application that needs to send messages, repeatedly to the server. I'm currently using AJAX from the phone's browser and it works fairly reliably, but, as with all things cell-phone, not 100%. I'm curious if using Android and opening a socket to the server would give me any additional reliability, or if it would suffer from the same communication troubles that hinder the AJAX transmission.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've had a Hero for a few weeks now, and while most things are great, I'm finding the internet connection very unreliable. For example, if I try to use the browser to view a website, often it says it can't find the page, even for www.google.com, and this is using a bookmark so I know it's a valid address. Often in the Market, it says it doesn't have a connection and to retry or cancel.
I am usually connected via wi-fi, either at home or at the office, so I know the wi-fi connection is good, and both have been tested thoroughly with my iPhone 3G. It's almost as if I have to wait for something to happen before I can use the net, but I make sure the wifi signal symbol appears before I try anything. Why could my data connection be so unstable?

I've been rooted for quite some time now, so I doubt I'm making a noob mistake. Although I'm no rom writer, so I could missing something.

No visible notification but the EV symbol at the top of the screen will always be "lit up" w/ the upload/download arrows showing no activity. I always have to switch the airplane mode on for a second and turn it back off. I have bluetooth automatically connect to my car when I'm in it and don't know if that's what is causing it? Anyone else having this issue and finding a cure? I updated PRL as well as firmware, but no luck.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI'm the happy owner of an Hero since one week but I have an "issue" with the Weather widget, the widget itself and the info under the clock in the home page. I live in France but I work in another country, I've not enabled auto data roaming as it costs a lot. Problem is that at 6:30am for instance the forecasts are updated, then I cross the border, data mode becomes disable and then 6h after, the logo still shows a moon and the 7C based on 6:30 update. And it stays in this useless state until 6pm when I leave the roaming mode returning to France.
How can I make the 2 widgets showing estimated forecast (looks like 3 days are available) even if no update is possible ? Before the Hero I was using a Winphone with SBP Mobile Shell and the weather widget was taking care of the time of the day to change the logo/forecast even not connected. If not possible with the HTC, could you point me to a weather widget more "clever" than this one?
Im leaving for costa rica tomorrow and would like to turn off ALL data AND telephone. i dont want any connection at all, but i would still like to use my camera, calendar, notepad, etc. how do i turn off EVERYTHING? But I would still use wifi to browse internet(not data)...is that possible? i know airplane mode will turn everything off; even wifi. so my question is, how do i turn off all data/phone and still use wifi to browse internet?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI originally posted this in the CM 6 thread, but after doing a nandroid restore and also flashing to Fresh 2.4 I'm still having this issue. I rebooted my phone this morning (was running CM6 6.1.0 RC1) and ever since the reboot I cannot connect to any google services and the data connection when connecting to webpages is hit or miss. When I try to connect to my google account on the initial setup for CM6 and for Fresh 2.4 I get the error: 'cant establish a reliable data connection to the server'. I have good to great signal strength yet terrible connection. Would updating my radio help? After doing some googling someone suggested updating my profile through the system settings. Can I do that with a rooted phone or do I have to flash back to an official update?
View 17 Replies View RelatedWhile I was out today with "Mobile network" selected and an HSDPA connection I was able to update weather, view a Google Map, browse web pages and read GMail messages. However, when I replied to messages in the GMail app my replies were not sent. They sat in the GMail app with the word "Sending" shown in red in the Inbox. I tried toggling the mobile data connection off and on a couple of times, but still no joy. As soon as I returned home and reconnected through WiFi the messages were sent within a minute or so.Has anyone any suggestions as to what I might do differently next time?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the official 2.1 update. I'm loving a lot about it. However when i installed a barcode reader like Barcode reader and Shop Savvy, I lost all connections to the internet, the market, Email, and even the weather. I was able to use the phone and text, but that was it. Then last night I installed the XDA keyboard, and I again lost all my data connections except phone and text. Is there a setting I need to change? or any other ideas for how to fix this issue? I should be able to install apps and not loose data connections. Should I try reinstalling the update?
Also, the battery seems to last just a tade less longer than 1.5 did. But no worries there. Would like to install apps without loosing connections. Photoshop, Google Goggles, History eraser, Astro file manager, Google maps (update i think), Shazam, Facebook, 3Banana notes, and Pandora. All that is on my home screen that might interfer with something is the clock with the weather widget, the people favorites widget, and that's all. Otherwise the home screens are just icons to the apps I use. Not sure if any of this helps sovle my problem.
I am trying to find a way to block incoming calls while I am on the internet. It seems like right when I am about to finally get to what I am looking for someone calls just to say what's up. Is there an app or setting that will send those calls straight to voicemail

Right away I noticed the data connection going up and down a lot. Then a few days ago I started periodically getting a black popup with this: When I get it, I just hit "dismiss" and so far, everything goes back to working normally at that point. Still, it's a little disconcerting. Anyone else gotten this popup or had their data connection messed with by rooting?

Unlike the viewing of the same photos through the Albums widget on the phone, which seems to fail to download them for viewing through the mobile data connection, even at H connection speed.....the download just seems to stall?
