Android : VLC Remote - Does VLC Setup Helper Open To Establish A Connection With Phone

note: there are two versions of VLC Remote, I'm talking about this one: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.hobbyistsoftware.android.vlcremote_us
Is VLC Setup Helper supposed to be open on the computer to establish a connection with my phone? When I'm playing a file in VLC, and open up the phone's app, it won't connect until I open up "VLC Setup Helper". It just seems a hassle to always remember to open up VLC Setup Helper all the time.

I have a ListActivity that uses a CursorAdapter to fill the rows in the view. I wrote a database helper class that gives me back results for common queries I make for my app, and it uses an SQLiteOpenHelper implementation I wrote to open the database. I use the open helper to open the database and get a cursor to pass to my CursorAdapter.

The problem I'm having, that I didn't have before I implemented the open helper (before I just opened the database directly without a helper), is when I click on an item, which takes me to another activity, and then go back to this activity. When it initializes everything is fine, and my list is populated fine, but when I go back from the activity that follows, the list is empty and in the LogCat I see "Invalid statement in fillWindow()".
It appears from a few post I've seen that the reason is, when I requery the cursor, the database is closed. But I'm not closing it! I'm scratching my head on this one.

I am writing an app that has a single database file with 3 tables ( AudioTable, PeopleMap, ImageTable) and am looking at 2 design alternatives:
1. A -single- database adapter (myDBAdapter.java) which uses a database helper class that extends SQLiteOpenHelper. The adapter class has separate methods for accessing and updating rows in each of the 3 tables. ie. insertAudio() insertPeople() insertImage()
2. 3 different database adapters for each table all using the same db file.. 1. audioDBAdapter.java, 2. peopleDBAdapter.java, 3. imageDBAdapter.java) Each adapter uses it's own db helper class (extending SQLiteOpenHelper)
While option 2 offers better encapsulation of the 3 classes (and corresponding data), I'm wondering if there couldbe a performance overhead or does the SQLiteOpenHelper implementation handle this without much overhead ?
Or is there some other way I can get better encapsulation with option 1. something similar to the way the Contacts Provider nicely allows for separate instances of Contacts.People, Contacts.Phones, Contacts.Settings, etc.

My company's exchange server is similar to mail.company.com/exchange, but when I put in that address, it removes the "/exchange" and it gives me an error saying "Unable to open connection to server". Is there a way around this, or am I stuck without the ability to sync my work email?

I have a question regarding my new HTC Hero. I bought an unlocked one and are currently using it with Tmobile. My internet works but I am unable to go to the market to get applications. Does anyone know what to do? I already called and spoke to TMobile but they were unable to help me. The message I get is: Can't establish reliable data connection to server.

I am on the Nexus 5.I have already looked up about this problem online, but the fixes for this seems to be either a hard reset, a factory reset, or the YouTube trick, where one signs into their gmail through YouTube and fixes this issue.
I have attempted all three of these things, but I still can't add my gmail account. The "Can't connect to server" message still pops, even when trying to sign in through the YouTube app.

I use an LG Optimus L4 II (e445). I rooted it but then decided I had too much on it and decided to restore to factory settings. It all worked fine. However, when I got to the Google Account sign in page, it gave me the "couldn't establish a reliable connection to the server" error message. I followed every single tutorial I could find online as to how to solve this. None of them worked. Eventually, I re-rooted it (using VRoot) and managed to download an apk of ES file explorer and locate the hosts file. This had one line that shouldn't have been there:

From what I can make out, this is the address of google's sign in servers. So somehow (I suspect malware/dodgy rooting program?) my hosts file has been edited to stop me logging into google. Restoring the device does nothing, neither does unrooting/rerooting. When I open up the file in ES (when rooted) and edit out the bad lines, I can't save for some reason- I think the /system folder is write protected.
So I tried to make the /system folder writeable. I used the android sdk to do this (mount -o command) but this did not do anything. I downloaded the mount /system apk and installed that, it did not work either. I tried /pull and /push on the hosts file to edit it and send it back using the apk. I could successfully pull and edit it, but it would not let me push it back. I can effectively not use my phone- I can't use most apps and can't download any.

I have a Samsung i7500 (Galaxy).Originally, it had Android 1.5 installed, but I could not enter the Google Market with my google account and got this message: "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server".I read here and across the web I should Factory-reset my phone, but it did not work.So I upgraded the firmware to Android 2.1 using this guide: How to Mustymod It worked, and now the phone had Android 2.1 installed, but I still cannot access the Google Market with my Google account. This time I did a factory-reset (Settings -> Privacy -> Factory reset) and also followed this guide to delete the provider-settings (eventually I removed the whole /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/ directory and not only that file.

1) Is there a way to setup a password to open the phone (when you turn phone on)? If my phone gets lost or stolen, I'd like to have it password protected so they cannot get into my phone.
If not, maybe there's an app for this that someone can suggest?

Remote Application for Settings and Setup / is there any apps that i can setup my phone remotly? I had reset my phone and reinstall everything again on the device, and takes me for 4 to 6 hours to complete the hard job! What I'm looking for is an app that I can connect remotly from my PC and setup the initial settings as keyboard, lenguage, apps, sounds and anything else that can be manage from the PC and do it more quickly and softly and has not take more than 1 hour doing this "initial settings"? I have a Sony Xperia ST21a2 and ICS OS on it.

I am making an android app, and i need to connect to a remote database with a webservice. as i know, i will recibe a XML from the webservice, with the result's of my SELECT query (various rows in some cases) i have no idea about XML, and also i have no idea about web services, i only know that i will recibe a XML and i have to parse it to obtain the data. there is a XML parser for this purpose? easy to add to my app and easy to configure?

When I am running any android project, emuulator will come, but after that in console, its saying
"[DeviceMonitor]Adb connection Error:An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". Then 11 connnection attempts will come in console. I am using windows XP. From windows one dialog box will come saying "adb.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Because of this, I can't run any project.

How does it work? Is the market.android.com return some info to browser to help it open the Android Market application? or just the browser locally does the trick? Is it possible to set up an open URL who could do the same thing? For example, I have an app called MyBooks(com.mybooks.app) and a site like:

an url could be
http://www.myboos.com/details?id=0001
And when Browser opens this url, the site will return some kind of pre-defined response, which might contains an Intent action string, like "com.myboos.app.action.VIEW" and the queried id 0001.
Browser could then try to start an Activity using that action
"com.mybooks.app.action.View",
if there is an Activity for that, start it and pass the id in. If not, it tries to connect another URL like

I want to know how to do this, I've been fiddling with Tasker and Unified Remote but can't get it to work.
Basically, I've got an NFC tag outside my apartment, when I step in, I tag it, and that triggers a tasker profile which does a few tasks:
1) Switch off data
2) Switch on Wifi (and connect to home wifi)
3) Launch Airdroid on phone
4) Launch Chrome on PC and open Airdroid url (this doesn't work!)
5) Launch Foobar2000 on PC (this works)
6) Launch Foobar2000 android controller.
Everything works, except for launching the address in chrome. I can launch chrome just fine, but the url I've set doesn't open. How do I do this?
