HTC EVO 4G :: Unrevoked Vs Traditional Root?
Sep 28, 2010What are the advantages/disadvantages of each method. Or does it even matter now that Unrevoked is a true root?

View 8 RepliesAre the any disadvantages to using unrevoked to root and then their new recovery program, versus the more extensive process, like using the new "simple root" app that roots/nand/rom
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just can't get it.Yes, I'm new to this stuff but I've read every thread and watch hrs of youtube (which may have screwed me up more).I got my new Evo last week, I'm coming off of a jailbroken Iphone (blackrain).I'm looking for wireless tether, ROM flashing is ok but I'm not going to go crazy.I'm running 2.1 (I never upgraded, because I'd thought it be easier to root). It seems I get to the end of both rooting programs and the deal get's done.Unrevoked says- The app is loaded on my phone, however is say's something crazy when I hit start in the app I wiped the system, so I can't remember what it says, but it's like fhugh something.
Simple Root-I'm able to go through all the steps of simple root, when I hit wireless tether, it tells me.NOT ROOT? and my kernals aren't right. Also, simple root is a two click program now vs the majority of vidoes that are 3/4 clicks. This can't be that hard to do.
What exactly is this for? Like, if its only good until you boot then what is it good for? I came from the moment where when i rooted it i could change the themes and uninstall apps, but what can i do with this root?
View 1 Replies View RelatedLast night I rooted my phone using the unrevoked method and I installed fresh 0.1. I had an issue last night where my phone wouldn't see the SD card Has this issue been resolved with the newer versions of the fresh rom? How do I get this update applied so that I don't have any issues with my phone seeing my sd card? I've only had enough time to get 0.1 installed and I would like to have 0.3 up and running by tonight.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using unrevoked to root my evo and everything goes like it is supposed to untill i get to where it says to browse for the driver software on my computer. I cannot find it anywhere.
View 15 Replies View RelatedDoes the newest version of the Unrevoked 3 enable a full root? I am able to do such things as install the Wifi tether app, which requires root, but I'm unsure if I can flash a new ROM with the Unrevoked root, or if I need to use another root method such as "Toast's".
I know this question has been asked/answered before, but I could not find any information regarding the newest version of the Unrevoked root.
I did unrevoked but i want to get to use the new froyo rom, can i do simple root on top of unrevoked?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to flash roms. i want to be able to use wi-fi tether. which should i do? advantages disadvantages to both.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThere have been a few different posts dealing with this concept, but I still haven't found a solid answer..which probably means there isn't one. Anyway, I am about to root and have been reading everything I can find, and there seem to be some people that do not like the unrevoked because it does not "fully" root the phone; or does not nand unlock completely or something. I wont try to explain details because I do not know much, but bottom line is:
View 7 Replies View RelatedI keep getting "failed to flash recovery image" every time I go throug the process on the Beta Test 3.21. Everyone seems to be having success.
I no that I have the bootloader installed and the phone is definetly on "charge only" mode when I try to use the program.
I know for a fact that there is no HTC Synce or anything downloaded to my computer that could hurt it because I am on a brand new computer.
What am I missing..is there something else that I need to download to my computer or phone to make it work?
I tried to use unrevoked last night and got the backup cid is missing error. I havent found any way to fix the error on google exept wait until the next version. does anyone know how to fix it or another way to root my 2.2 EVO that works just as well?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTo my knowledge, there are two different teams working on root for the EVO right? Should their methods accomplish the same thing? or is one rooting method better than the other? I guess I will wait until the unrEVOked team releases theirs...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the driver at first I did it wrong so I had to start over. When I restarted the root it goes through the "pushing H-boot" etc and then restarts my phone. the icon for unrevoked (grey box) now says waiting for reboot... well ive been waiting for that reboot for about 10minutes now.
View 28 Replies View Relatedunrevoked from Twitter on Sunday morning:
First successful run of unrevoked 3.2 tonight: took a stock S-ON Froyo EVO to S-OFF in one pass, less than 1 minute. 3.2 is nearly complete.
If you've lost your root due to upgrading to 2.2, you're most likely in luck.
Check out this link, [ROOT] unrEVOked 3.2: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading - xda-developers, then head over to ##unrevokedtest at freenode.net to get in on the testing.
I had stock froyo installed then installed Unrevoked 3.21 to root my dinc but when I ran it, it just got stuck at "Pushing Recovery..." So I soon realized that I didn't have it set to "Charge only" So I changed that then ran Unrevoked again and it proceeded very quickly. It restarted my phone once but "Charge only" WAS NOT set as the default option :/ so Unrevoked then got stuck at "Running root..." So I attempted to change it back to "Charge only" again but Unrevoked never proceeded so I exited out of Unrevoked and restarted Unrevoked after I changed the default on the dinc... However, now Unrevoked is stuck at "Pushing recovery..." again... It will not get passed that no matter what. What do I do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedDoes the .apk root provided by unrevoked do a full reset of the phone? Or will all data/customizations that I've already put on there stay?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HTC Evo with 2.2 on it.
I installed the usb drivers and ran Unrevoked on it last night. Unrevoked ran ok on it and said 'Done' at the end. When I hold the volume down and power button, the top of the screen says: "SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF".
Since it shows "S-OFF" and unrevoked seemed to run successfully, I think I'm rooted, but I'm not really sure. I have the Superuser icon in my programs list, and I am able to run a 'root only' screenshot program.
So here's the problem. The reason I tried to root is to delete some of the bloatware from Sprint and for wireless tethering. I tried running Titanium Backup and got the following error: "Error: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will not work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and try again".
Wireless tethering will run and I can connect to it with my laptop, but after I'm connected, I can't access any web pages. Have I downloaded the wrong wireless tethering program? (I downloaded the latest one listed at this page: wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk - android-wifi-tether - Wireless Tether for Root Users 2.0.5-pre9 *** EXPERIMENTAL *** - Project Hosting on Google Code).
So, am I rooted or not? Am I "partially" rooted, since the screenshot program will run? What do I need to do to get the wireless tethering to work?
So I am considering using unrevoked to flash/root my droid incredible and I just had a few questions. How safe is it? Is it easy to brick during the flash process or after when its already flashed? If my phone does somehow get bricked is there any way to save it? Is it reversible? If so is it easy? And lastly how does unrevoked run? I have stock 2.2 and its fast and smooth. Would using unrevoked slow it down?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently recieved a replacement desire following an claim. Once out of the box i realised that this was vodafone branded (my original showed no branding). I was a bit pi**ed off with this so decided to have a go at rooting the thing. I used unrevoked3 and clockwork mod but due to this being 2.1 firmware found that I was unable to change the rom. I would now like to unroot my desire as it has seemingly developed a fault and repeatedly reboots, so I may have to send back. This developed some 10 days after the root so don't think this is the cause. I also did a factory reset and the problem still occurs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to root, and have been trying to root my Incredible. I have the OTA 2.2, and waited for Unrevoked to release the new program. I have downloaded the drivers and it says that has the most current drivers installed, but when I open the Unrevoked 3 re-flash program it does not recognize the phone...any ideas where to start?
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust wanted to drop and say thanks for all the great threads and guides here. The droid x was my first android phone and at the time "locked bootloader, efuse, etc" meant nothing to me so i got it. I do love my X and its been cool being in on the ground floor as stuff comes out, but now thats ive gotten into going beyond the standard user experience its kinda limiting.
I picked up a DINC off ebay kinda reasonably after selling my backup blackberry and a bunch of 360 games. Just came today and its been busy! thanks to the great info here, I rooted with unrevoked 3.21, s-off with unrevoked forever, and have been experimenting with different roms and kernels all day. Its been a blast.
Ive bootlooped a bunch of times but nothing a nandroid backup couldnt solve.
Until the X can offer what my new DINC does, I'm switching over to htc. Wish the screen was a tad bigger and had swype, but ill live!
For those wanting to root, you may want to wait for unRevoked 3.2. It is supposed to be 1-click root and requires no downgrading.

I just spent 2 hours rooting on Friday. Hope this helps folks avoid the hassle.
Can I root my hero with 1.5 with unrevoked.apk?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI even tried flashing a custom rom (Fresh) on the last attempt and it just seems like it is giving me the Sprint stock Rom. Shouldn't the custom Rom look different? Once rooted do I still need to use Unrevoked method to grant superuser access for Apps?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had a rooted Incredible using this method before however I had a problem with the on screen keyboard so I got a replacement. The replacement just came yesterday. Now I am rooting the replacement and the Unrevoked 3 program gets stuck at "Waiting for root... (Safe to restart if this doesn't work)"
I have the HBOOT drivers installed and my phone comes up in device manager as "Android Composite ADB Interface"
Did they apply a new update to the phone that prevents rooting? If so how long before I can get around it?
Is there any way to get the traditional unlock screen on the Captivate?
View 7 Replies View RelatedConsidering moving from the Droid 2 to the Droid X. I cant really make up my mind, but I dont really like the D2, but I cant really explain why. I think its the form factor itself. Portrait keyboarding isnt good with my big thumbs, the screen is narrowish.
Anyhow, played with one at the Verizon Store last night. Wish they had one without the damn teather cord on it LOL. I noted on the landscape-keyboard, the spacebar is all the way on the right. Is it possible to install a new soft-keyboard thats more traditional?
Still struggling,
the messages in my Xperia X10 mini pro comes by way of a trail, I want my messages in the traditional way inbox, send etc. How do i do that?
