HTC EVO 4G :: Bluetooth Quality - Cuts Out Constantly
Aug 2, 2010
Is it just me or does bluetooth on the evo suck? It cuts out constantly and if I'm walking its un listenable. IT sounds like I'm trying to listen to a cd player on a trampoline.

I have been having issues with my Nexus One when trying to stream music via bluetooth to my clarion cd player. It was hit and miss, sometimes playing fine, sometimes not even connecting for 5 minutes. I may have found the problem, i was having some cutting and out issues tonight and i disabled wifi and it immediatly played silky smooth. I then turned on wifi and it started to cut in and out immediatly. This leads me to believe the wifi radio is causing problems streaming music via bluetooth but wanted to find out if anyone else had similar issues and what they do. I just came from using an iphone 3gs and never had these issues, it always played smooth. I have no problems disabling wifi when in my truck but want to get other opinions.

So far I love my EVO, but one thing that is really driving me crazy. With my Blackberry I had grown accustomed to streaming my music from my phone to a bluetooth stereo gateway in my car and my home.My BB sounded GREAT doing this. But the EVO has a really grungy crackling sound, especially when there is loud high frequency content, such as a lot of cymbals, etc. Some songs sound better than others depending on how they were recorded, but by in large it's very annoying.Even my wife, who is nowhere nearly as picky as I am about sound quality complains about it.I've tried to put up with it, but usually I resort to plugging directly into the aux jack. What a letdown for such an otherwise advanced phone! Is anyone else experiencing this? The research I've done so far indicates the the problem is that Android is locked at a relatively low "bitpool" setting, which is ok for voice, but doesn't provide the necessary bandwidth for decent music quality. Thus far I haven't found way to adjust this.Does anyone know of a solution, or if there is a solution coming? Will this be addressed in Froyo? It just sucks to have to plug my phone in again just to get decent sound quality.

How is Bluetooth audio quality with your Evo? I'm using a Jabra Extreme earpiece and am experiencing poor audio quality. One person with whom I was speaking said that I sounded like I was running or was in a windy location (I was calling from a quiet hotel room). On my end there was noticeable static. As a test, I hung up and paired the Jabra with my Blackberry 8830, and the person with whom I was speaking said that I sounded a little distant, but otherwise clear. On my end, the audio quality was good.

I currently have a Jawbone II headset and just got my Droid a couple days ago. My wife keeps on saying that when she calls me that my voice is very echoy. is this a common issue w/ the Droid, or is there something I need to try to do to possibly fix this issue. Other then this, the phone is great, but because I live off my bluetooth headset this is a big issue for me.

I call internationally on calling cards A LOT (gv to those countries is 2x more expensive). Because of the calling card, sound quality and volume already takes a hit. Translation from a non-native language is more difficult over the phone, and damned near impossible for me if I can't hear them CLEARLY and LOUDLY. Same goes for the party at the other end if my microphone is sub-par.
Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth headset that works well with the droid and has AMAZING call clarity, quality, and good volume? Aesthetics are unimportant, I don't care what it looks like or how big it is. It just need to sound loud, clear, and have a good mic. It also needs to be comfortable because it will get used 1-2 hours EVERY day.
Bonus points if its stereo and supports A2DP audio, as getting one of those for music listening is also on the shopping list... but I'm perfectly willing to get two separate units if I need to.

I know this is a rooted issue because it never happened on stock. I have had this problem on Fresh and Baked Snack. Whenever the screen is off and I'm listening to anything that requires mobile data (pandora, streaming radio), it cuts out after about 5 minutes. When I turn the screen on, I can see 3G kick back in and the stream starts again. Is this a known problem with a known solution?

I couldn't find this while searching these forums but if its already been covered please point me in the right direction. when i receive email from android forums it sends me a link to the forum that a new message was posted to. thats great an i like it doing that.. my problem is sometimes the link is "too long" and g mail cuts it off before sending it to my phone so i cant tap it. the email shows up correctly on my computer at g mail.com so i know it must be a setting in my phone or in g mails interface of what it sends to my phone.

Not trying to bitch about Froyo, for the most part I think its great. Finally my contact pics are properly synced and properly updating with facebook. But when using turn by turn navigation, before it would drop the music, give the direction and the music would turn back on.Now it pauses the player, and the music doesn't turn back on without manually pressing play again. Driving through downtown seattle with lots of turns this is pretty annoying.

I'm having sound drop outs when playing back media from the headphones or even the speaker , this is only fixed by a restart but after a while the sound goes off again . I've had the phone since end of July and had no problems with the sound before this week . I've tried a hard reset but this still hasn't fixed the problem . I've searched the web but can't find a solution or fix. firmware 2.1 - running for a few weeks with no sound probs until now

Stock Droid 2.2 tethered to Ubuntu 10.04. I can tether it and get good speeds and can surf around with no problem. When I launch Transmission (a bittorrent client) tethering shuts down after a few minutes. It doesn't disconnect but just stops transferring data...web pages won't even load. I have tried to limit the speeds of upload and download but nothing seems to work. I am using the tether option under settings- wi-fi on the Droid. Is there a limit in the droid for data or something like that?

So I use my Eris as a GPS from time to time and when I do, I do not want the screen to shut off automatically. I know how to change this in settings but what I want is a widget that I can keep on my home screen that will disable the screen time out, and then turn it back on again (the way the wifi short cut allows me to turn my wifi receiver on and off without going through settings.
I do not think such a short cut already exists, I would happily write it myself, but not sure how to go about starting.

So im looking at my messages and i get a long one. After like 100 characters or something it cuts it off and replaces it with ... And then i have to click on it to see the rest. Is there any way to take this off in the settings?
And my second question, my phone doesnt connect to my computer right. I plugged it in, it said it didnt have the right software or something, so i went and downloaded the the Vista 64 bit thing thats stickied on here. I plug it in, and the "you have the wrong software" thing was gone, but nothing else happpened. The screen says its connected and it vibrates and i hear the noise thru the computer, so what am i doing wrong. I read somewhere that you pull down the little bar at the top and hit dock or something like that. I cant do that. If i can pull it down theres no buttons to hit. Can someone walk me thru this process? FIXED

I'm looking for an alarm clock app with one very specific feature - allow me to set the alarm tone to automatically stop after X seconds, then start again at the next snooze interval, and play for another X seconds.
Sure it seems every alarm app out there allows me to set Snooze intervals and stuff, but with my waking up habit, I don't like to physically have to touch the phone to get it to shut up until the next snooze interval. I like to lay in bed and let the alarm go for like 3-4 snooze intervals before I finally wake up.
I've tried Alarm Clock PlusV2, Alarm Clock Xtreme, Quick Alarm. None of them seem to have this.

I'm having a problem with TextView and would appreciate some help finding out what I might be doing wrong. (Or if this is in fact an Android problem, a workaround If the first letter of text in a TextView is capital "J", the first pixel or two are cut off so that the "J" starts looking a bit more like an "I". If I set the gravity to, say, "center", the "J" looks OK. Setting layout_marginLeft or paddingLeft to a non-zero value does not help. If you would like to see this effect for yourself, the easiest way is to create a default generic Android project and change the "hello" text to something like "JJJ".

I am getting 9-10 hours off a nightly charge on my Evo.This isn't lasting me the whole day and I usually run out of juice on the drive home from work.I've tried all the battery tricks to get longer time but no luck. I think the reason for the battery drain is because at work, I only receive 1-2 bars on the 3G network. When I step outside, I go to 4-5 bars.I am blaming the battery drain more on my location rather than the phone, which is OK.Anyways, I have the luxury of sitting in front of a laptop all day. This means I can constantly charge my Evo all day through the USB port. Would this have any bad effect on the battery? This means taking the phone on and off the charge throughout the day. If I leave my desk for 10-15 minutes, I'm unplugging the Evo and taking it with me. This could happen 5-10 times a day.Or is it better just to do a charge 1-2 hours before I leave work to make sure it will last the remainder of the evening?

is there a way to tell what app is using the GPS? My phone's gps is constantly on even when google maps, camera app, etc isn't turned on. I'm curious what app is using it.I know i can manually turn off gps but i rather leave it on as it hasn't been affecting battery life too much so far but now the gps icon is on very frequently in the top bar.

HTC Sense is crashing constantly on my EVO. It happens so much the phone is unusable. Multiple reboots do nothing to fix it.I had a couple of 3rd party widgets installed (Gmail count, and SMS count) so I uninstalled them. Now I only have the Clock/Weather widget that came with the phone on the home screen and Sense just keeps crashing. Force close, after force close, after force close.I will have to hard reset if I can't find a solution.I've changed scenes to one of the stock scenes (HTC or Sprint) and it's still crashing.I boot up, swipe back and forth between panels, crash!
