HTC EVO 4G :: Where To Find Battery Connection Status?
Jul 15, 2010
Info about when the phone was last connected to the charger? I ran across that last night (my first day with the Evo) and I wanted to look at it again since I unplugged it in the middle of the night and don't remember when I did so. I've only had the phone since about 5 pm yesterday but I've put it through very heavy use and so far I'm 'very' pleased with the battery life. Definitely better than my Hero so far.

I was wondering if would be possible to perform an action for each time the USB status of the device changes.
For example if the user plugs in the cable and it is in sync/charge mode it performs a certain action, if the user then changes the phone into USB Memory Card mode another action is performed and if the user then disconnects the cable then the another action is done.

I'm basically trying to check that the device is connected to the internet to that I can access and parse an RSS feed. This is also the 1st android app I have written so I'm still finding my way around so any help/advice would be appreciated. I'm sure the variables should be assigned to something but I don't know what. The classes don't appear to have public constructors so I can't do "WifiInfo info = new WifiInfo()".............

I've dug through the documentation but couldn't find a call that would fit: Is there a way to find out the screen status (Active/dark)?I've got an app that implements the relevant data processing and backend server connectivity through a Service that I keep running on a reduced activity level when the user puts the device to sleep (using end button), or when the screen timeout hits. In the app code, I can follow this status change, because it triggers calls to overloaded onStop() and onPause() methods of the app's subclassed Activity. This way, I control active/reduced ("sleep") activity levels of that Service. Everything's cool and dandy in this scenario.Enter an AppWidget that's using this Service in a similar fashion, with functionality implemented in a subclass of AppWidgetProvider. This changes the game - I have found no way to determine when to set the Service to the reduced ("sleep") activity level from that point. The app's Activity has long paused, and I keep the Service at active level, as the widget needs updates from the Service similar to what the Activity needs when in front. With the AppWidget on the home screen, I want, and should (re: battery life), drop the Service's activity level when the device enters sleep mode. The most elegant way to handle this would be to detect whether the screen is dark, right inside the Service.

Any other Tweeters gettin tired of Twidroid? The dev had it perfect, in my opinion, about a month or two ago.
Since then, there's been this odd bug where sometimes you can't update, in fact, MOST of the time you can't update normally. You have to uninstall it first and then install the new version. And their solution is just to "suggest" this in the description.
Last week they had two updates and I had to install them 3-4 times each before they would work. I'd install, have it running and get told "there's a new update!" which is actually just the same update. Now when you tap exit it asks you "do you want to clear your username, password, and cache now?" If you press "no" it doesn't exit.
Unistalling/reinstalling wouldn't be such a huge deal except you have to re-enable it, re-enter your login info, and do all your settings over. By default it saves the cache to the phone, so you have to switch it to the SD card. By default it's going to check every 5 minutes and drain your battery, by default it doesn't show full messages in the notification shade, etc, etc...
It's a shame, as it worked perfectly with statusinator (for facebook). So, I could update my facebook status in statusinator and have automatically ask me if I wanted it copied to twitter, too.
But since statusinator doesn't work with cupcake, and appears to have been abandoned by the dev some time ago, I'm looking for a new twitter client.
I'm not going to pay for a client. I find it ridiculous for someone to expect me to pay for an app that runs a free service. That's like paying someone to turn on my television and change the channels.
I'm trying BuddyMob and twittered and they're both "okay" so far. Anything that's awesome, does notifications, and has a connection for facebook status updates?

When I looked at the active connections on my wireless router I spotted a connection called "gasman". After a few minutes checking I realised that it was my Desire. Prior to recent 2.2 upgrade the connection name had been "unknown_ the MAC address". My wife's Desire does still connect as "unknown". I've had a fairly good look into settings and can't find anything that would name the connectioin as "gasman". Has anyone got any clues where I might find the name?

Battery Left was the first thing I installed on my phone when I got it. My battery life has been terrible so I've been trying to track down the problem. I woke up today, unplugged my phone and didn't touch it for an hour. Battery Left says I have 70 percent left but the battery meter in the status bar showed full. I uninstalled battery left and installed Battstatt and it shows 90 percent (2 hours later). Anyone else have problems with battery left? I hope this fixes my battery problem.

Just wanted to put in my two cents for those getting bad battery use with the Fresh 3.3.0.1 update.
Stock radio and PRI
Fresh 3.3.0.1
SetCPU profiles:
Normal: 652 / 245 onDemand
Screen off: 245 / 245 performance
9 hr 40 min down 15% with moderate use. I use Exchange (with push turned on) ~125 emails, gmail, ~25 text and ~20 minutes in phone calls, Twitter, BBC news feed and No 4G. And just a note that I had a reboot in there, so that took a few % away.

Stock battery indicator in the status bar was bugging me, since it was constantly showing more charge than all other battery apps (widgets, Spare Parts). After looking in
/system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable/stat_sys_battery.xml
I could see that Samsung changed battery level thresholds compared to other Android releases (sources found on net). I have made a mod which changes the levels to the ones in the right column (source). Tested only on this 1.6 firmware: Baseband version I7500XXJB2, Build number Donut.XXJB6. Do not change /system/framework/framework-res.apk directly, the phone might not boot if it is not signed again after changing! Make all necessary backups!
You will need Metamorph to apply it, but since we have only 1.21 MB available on /system partition with this firmware, we will have to move Maps.apk to /data/app. The procedure (if you are not sure what each step does, do not proceed):
1. root the phone
2. copy busybox to /data/local/bin and give it execute permissions
3. install Metamorph from the Market
4. mount /system as RW (via "Root explorer", for example)
5. Run Metamorph. It will check for necessary files, and copy zip to /system/bin/zip. You can move it to /data/local/bin/zip to save some space on /system, and create symlink with this: ln -s /data/local/bin/zip /system/bin/zip
6. copy attached Galaxy-BatteryFix-v1.0.zip to /sdcard/AndroidThemes
7. move /system/app/Maps.apk to /data/app. It seems that Maps work fine from that location, after reboot.
8. apply theme from Metamorph
9. reboot
If you have problems with Metamorph and copying zip app, run this command:
ln -s /data/local/bin/busybox /system/bin/cp (after renaming /system/bin/cp to cp.old).
To restore the original, use Galaxy-BatteryFixRestore-v1.0.zip.

I find my status bar is very cluttered and has some unnecessary icons that I'd rather not have (particularly bluetooth, alarm, and battery [I use Battery Status app]). I found this article on how to remove the stock battery icon but it's designed for the Samsung Moment. Anyone brave enough to try it on their Evo?

I was panicking a little yesterday as I thought I would miss the delivery of my new Desire. This was not the case at 5:30pm it arrived and it truly is an amazing phone. It took me around 4 hours to totally kill the battery from new (when you get the battery it only has a little charge in it) so this I was really pleased about, this was with WiFi on constantly and using it nonstop on twitter, flicker, taking photos, android market, internet browsing and basically just finding my ways around the menus as i've been out of the game for a while. I really think that the worries I was having about not liking it and reverting back to my iPhone are blown out of the window, this device really has blown me away and the integrated twitter app Peep is also very good, although I am now using tweetcasterPRO. It had a full charge last night so I am going to hammer the phone today to see how quickly I can get the battery to go flat so I have a rough idea if one charge will last me through the day.

I used to be on a custom ROM called Cyanogenmod and really liked their circle battery icon in the status bar. I'm on a different ROM now that has no features and uses the stock android icon and I'm wondering if it's possible to get a white version of the cyanogenmod icon without having to change ROMs. I'm on an unlocked and rooted verizon galaxy nexus on 4.4.
