Samsung I7500 :: Fix For Status Bar Battery Indicator

Mar 3, 2010

Stock battery indicator in the status bar was bugging me, since it was constantly showing more charge than all other battery apps (widgets, Spare Parts). After looking in
/system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable/stat_sys_battery.xml
I could see that Samsung changed battery level thresholds compared to other Android releases (sources found on net). I have made a mod which changes the levels to the ones in the right column (source). Tested only on this 1.6 firmware: Baseband version I7500XXJB2, Build number Donut.XXJB6. Do not change /system/framework/framework-res.apk directly, the phone might not boot if it is not signed again after changing! Make all necessary backups!

You will need Metamorph to apply it, but since we have only 1.21 MB available on /system partition with this firmware, we will have to move Maps.apk to /data/app. The procedure (if you are not sure what each step does, do not proceed):
1. root the phone
2. copy busybox to /data/local/bin and give it execute permissions
3. install Metamorph from the Market
4. mount /system as RW (via "Root explorer", for example)
5. Run Metamorph. It will check for necessary files, and copy zip to /system/bin/zip. You can move it to /data/local/bin/zip to save some space on /system, and create symlink with this: ln -s /data/local/bin/zip /system/bin/zip
6. copy attached Galaxy-BatteryFix-v1.0.zip to /sdcard/AndroidThemes
7. move /system/app/Maps.apk to /data/app. It seems that Maps work fine from that location, after reboot.
8. apply theme from Metamorph
9. reboot

If you have problems with Metamorph and copying zip app, run this command:
ln -s /data/local/bin/busybox /system/bin/cp (after renaming /system/bin/cp to cp.old).
To restore the original, use Galaxy-BatteryFixRestore-v1.0.zip.

I'm looking for a battery indicator widget/app that will show the remaining battery left (numeric) in the status bar. I found "Battery Indicator" which shows a separate battery % in the status bar, but I"m looking for one that will superimpose the numeric % left over the stock battery meter icon in the status bar.

Motorola Droid X :: Sudden Change Battery Life

Sep 13, 2010

Well today I went to lunch, when I got back I checked my phone and it was down to 70% battery life after 4 hours of no use. I checked Spare Parts, it showed the phone as having only slept 50% of the time, and something called "init" had been using the CPU for a little over 2 hours and the phone was very warm (~100f according to my battery widget). The battery manager (I'm running 2.2) showed Android OS as using around 60% of my battery life, so I rebooted the phone and went about my day. Minutes ago, my phone told me I need to charge it, only 7 hours after it was at 70%, it is now sitting at 15%. Once again I checked Spare Parts and my phone has been running 75% of the time since I rebooted it. I once again check the battery manager and it shows Android OS using up around 75% of my battery (again). Spare Parts yet again showed "init" as having the most CPU usage since I rebooted my phone.Anyone have any clue what "init" is in terms of Android OS? Any way I can better diagnose the phone? Anyone have any clue what could suddenly be causing this when it didn't start until today? The only thing that has changed in the past 2 days is an update for LauncherPro, an update for a game that I rarely play, and an update to AppBrain. Other then that, my phone has had almost no usage for the past few days, and it suddenly started doing this today for no reason.

HTC Eris :: Which ROM Get Best Battery Life?

Aug 22, 2010

Can anybody advise me on which ROM's they run and the battery life that may get? Or, how to set SetCPU to get optimized battery life? Yes, I have read the SetCPU guide, but it doesn't really make any recommendations to actual profiles.I am currently running Ivans Official, and for me, with heavy usage, I may get a a day. I tried Plain Jane, but would only get about 8 hours. Should I consider a Froyo based ROM? From what I have read, they don't seem to be much better in terms of battery life.

HTC Eris :: Battery Life On XtrRom

Aug 18, 2010

I was curious as to what settings people were using on their phone and home launchers (pro or otherwise) to extend battery life on xtrROM. Right now I'm getting pretty crappy battery life, but I'm pretty sure the culprits are all animations and live wall papers. Just want to get a feel for what other things I can give up to keep the things that I enjoy (and yes I enjoy the LWP and animations).

Unrelated question, is any harm done to the phone by keeping USB debugging off? I had to turn it on to use SetCPU.

HTC Droid Eris :: Improve The Battery Life?

Feb 23, 2010

how to improve the battery life on my Eris, but much of it didn't seem to apply or help much. All I really got out of it was "if you turn off all of the cool features of this new smartphone, your battery will last longer". What's the point? Anyway, the problem that I'm having with my battery is that is seem to drain very, very fast. For example: I took it off of the charger today @ 7:10am. It is now 8:35am and I'm down to 85%. I'll have to put it on the charger again by 2pm. That's really terrible. I don't sit and put a heavy load on it all day with tons of surfing, etc. I have it check my email accounts once per hour, and its doing the normal smartphone things in the background (weather, etc). I'm running the GDE home app with the iDroid theme. I used to have Advanced Task Killer and would periodically kill off any running apps, but I got the impression that it drained the battery so I uninstalled it.

I'm just trying to figure out how to tell what could be going on that is running the battery down so quickly (in my mind that is). I think that something must be running that's doing it, because as a side effect, I notice that at times, the phone is very slow to respond. For instance, when I go into my email, it takes between 5 and 10 minutes to bring it up, click Menu->Delete->Mark All->Delete, then go back to main screen. Not acceptable

HTC Droid Eris :: Anyone With Improved Battery Life On 2.1?

Jun 2, 2010

I didn't at first, but I have been for at least the last week. I'm not entirely certain why, though. I used to be below 30% at the end of every day (1.5 and 2.1 OTA), regardless of how much/little I used the phone. Often having to put it on the charger when I got home from work just to make it through the evening. Lately, I've been ending my day (15+ hours off the charger) at 50-60% remaining, consistently. I'm curious to know if others have experienced this, or if it's just something weird with my phone. AFAIK, most of the data sync settings are exactly the same as they were.

Interestingly, I am leaving 3g and GPS on always, now, where I used to turn them on only when needed. Also, it seems that my mail and weather widgets are not updating as consistently, which could be leading to some increases. I have used the "end all" in System Panel a few times when the battery seemed to be draining extra fast, but I have my mail, weather, sms, etc. Excluded, so I don't know if that's it.

HTC Eris :: Battery Life Improves - Cpu Speed 19.2

Sep 16, 2010

First and foremost, I fully advocate setting your CPU speed (via SetCPU, Gscripts, or otherwise) to 19.2 MHz Minimum, On Demand, across all profiles. This will greatly improve your battery life and you will not see a decrease in performance. (NOTE: Do NOT adjust your CPU minimum to 19.2 MHz if you are running the BFS or CFS kernels.) Now, follow these steps to optimize and calibrate your actual battery: With your phone powered ON, plug it into the charger. Charge until the LED is Green, showing the phone as being fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it OFF as quickly as possible. Once the screen and your menu lights are completely dark, showing your phone as being completely OFF, reconnect the phone to the charger. Charge until the LED is Green, showing the phone as being fully charged. Disconnect your phone from the charger. Power your phone ON and, as quickly as possible, power it back OFF. Reconnect your phone to the charger. Once the LED is Green, boot into Recovery by holding Power On + Vol Up simultaneously. In Recovery, go to Wipe > Battery Stats. Go back and Power Off your phone from Recovery. Ensure that your phone is now completely OFF and that the LED is Green. Disconnect your phone and Power On. Use as normal.

HTC Eris : Set For Balance Between Performance And Battery Life?

Aug 15, 2010

Got some great help last night getting setcpu up and running and there is some difference, mostly because I'm using LWP. I just had some questions on setting it up correctly. On the main page, you have the two scroll bars (I have both set to 710 and haven't had any problems) , under that is the Scaling option, What exactly does that do, and how should it be set for the balance between performance and battery life?

Follow up question, under profiles, is there any recommended profiles I should set up? Currently I have Screen off: 528/528 on demand with priority 50 (not sure what all of this means though). Are there any others that should be established?

HTC Droid Eris :: Battery Status Showed 60 Percent After Turning Off 3G

Feb 16, 2010

yes, it is . I charged it up Sunday night. Monday evening I still had over 60%. Monday night I did not plug it in, I tuned off 3G though. This morning the battery status still showed ~60%. So what did I do (or what did I NOT do)?

(1) I did not do the battery discharge-recharge thingy. BTW, if you really *fully* discharge a Li-ion battery you will kill it.
(2) I did not download any task killer/manager. This is supposed to be a smart phone to kill things when needed.
(3) I do not use the Home button at all. I always use the back button. my awake time is about 10%
(4) I do autosync, but my WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS is off.

I admit I am not a heavy user, though I have used up about 50 Mb data in 2 days. Peter

HTC Eris :: Froyo ROMs Increase Your Battery Life (XDA)

Aug 26, 2010

So I'm not sure if any of you have been reading or trying out some of the SetCPU values a fellow over at XDA is suggesting. Froyo ROMs increase your battery life! try this (UPDATE 08/26/2010) - xda-developers. Basically, whatever you want your max to be (700+ish) and setting the min down to 19 (lowest it can go).

I remember reading something about it not being good to have your CPU jumping 300+ Mhz, which it clearly would be doing with these values. I would ask over there, but that place kind of scares me Just wondering if any of the fine, intelligent folks over here have any advice on this. I would love for my eris to idle at 19200 but not at the cost of my battery and/or the phone itself.
