Forgive my ignorance, but its there a way to save my contacts to the SD card instead of the phone's internal memory? Is there a way to choose to save "stuff" to the card instead of the memory?

So i have this problem, im not sure which one is my sd card, when i go to options in my phone there is storage options and there is
Phone Storage
Internal storage
Let system decide..
So, which one is my sd card? And why does my phone keeps on saving app on my phone storage i mean, i have 8 gb sd card, why it doesent save it there?
I have the new x10 mini and cant work out how to or where the new contacts are added to after the initial transfer are,can anyone shed any light on how to check this please?
