HTC EVO 4G : Trying To Stream Alabama Game From Espn3 As Opposed To Paying
Sep 2, 2010
I'm living here in bham, al and I'm trying to stream the Alabama game from espn3 as opposed to paying the overpriced $40 ppv charge but the prob is, interestingly enough, its blacked out in Alabama and san Jose espn3 markets. So my question is; is there any way I can make my phone browser "think" that its using a non-blacked out market tower or like server so that my phone is able to stream the game through via espn3 as though I'm not in blacked out market area?

I've written an Android app that needs the short timezone name in which the handset is currently located.I'm using the following code: String timeZone = Calendar.getInstance().getTimeZone().getDisplayName(false, TimeZone.SHORT);When running in Chicago, this returns "CST". In New York, "EST". In Strasbourg, France, it's returning "HNEC" (Heure Normale de l'Europe Centrale in French).
The timezone in this location is referred to by some as "Central European Time" (see Wikipedia's Time zones of Europe).I'm passing timeZone off to a third-party system which very much insists on getting "CET" (not "HNEC"). Is there an API call I can rely on to return the three-letter (and, I think, "more modern") short timezone name? As my code runs in more and more locations, I'm guessing this problem is going to occur elsewhere, too. I'm really hoping to avoid maintaining some sort of map of three-letter to four-letter short timezone names.

I've seen this asked a couple of times back in the early part of the year, but no one ever answered, so I figured it would be worth giving it a go again. Is it possible to assign a ringtone to an entire group, as opposed to manually adding it for each person in a group?

What applications might soon be available once they can charge for them? Personally, I wouldn't mind paying for few- if they were worth it. I'm kinda anxious to get some good apps. Also, does anyone know when these new apps might start rolling out?

I just assumed because it was associated with my email, google would have the record on file?

I was wondering if someone could confirm one way or another if I can use my paypal account to pay for apps?
I'm just about to get a desire and don't have a google checkout account and would rather keep online financial details to a minimum.

So I have had my evo for about maybe 3 months, anyways I had a screen protector on it but I took it off for one day since I had ordered new ones. And I dropped my Evo And got 2 little scratches on the screen. Not deep at all. But they're annoying. Is there any way to get rid of them without paying for a new replacement?

Slightly off topic, but for Desire and you lot seem to know your stuff. I'm travelling in the states for a month. Is it worth getting a local sim or just paying the crazy roaming charges. If local sim, what's the best way to get one?
I only really need the internet side of things. Will occasionally check voicemail and the odd text, but those costs will be small. Cycling Vancouver to San Fran so having unlimited access for those 2 weeks would be a massive help. Any ideas? I'm on O2 with an unbranded Desire.

I haven't paid for any apps yet though I have bought smartphone apps in the past, plenty actually (former Crackberry user). The thing that I love about the Android platform is that there's so many choices for anything you can think of in terms of everyday use and the free versions are actually good and well maintained.
With that all said and done, what are some apps for the Motorola Droid that you feel are worth my money? So far I've considered a few...
1. Beautiful Widgets (Love the clock look + it has weather which I like and toggle buttons for wi-fi/gps/etc)
2. Abduction (free version is fantastic so just to support the developer I'm considering getting the paid version)
3. GDE/Dxtop, haven't decided which I want, but I will be trying them out individually before I decide on a purchase, the moto droid forum seems pretty split on which is better/more stable.

Long time reader, first time poster here. How does one know if the Epic is using the wifi connection as opposed to using the 3G connection? When wifi is connected both that and the 3G connection shows at the top. So which one is in control per se? And how can it be verified?

I have a square grid, for a turn based game ( grid is similar to the chess board ), but the moves in the games are different based on whether you have lapped your opponent pawn at least once or not.i.e if you have not lapped (beaten any of the opponents pawns) in the outer most grid as below.if you have lapped your opponent pawn once at least, then you get to reach home, this way.Any player having all his pawns reaching "home" first wins. The ones in yellow are safe-houses, i.e both the opponent pawn and the player's pawn get to stay in the same grid, this is not considered to be lapping ( the opponent ).The lapped pawn will return to its start point. Now the question is, what is the effective way to store the paths for the all the pawns.we will have 4 pawns for the player and 4 opponent pawns. Is there any pattern to store such static information, in a elegant way?

I have a puzzle game with a 7x7 grid of graphics, and a timer, its just about ready to go. But I am stuck on how to go about saving/continuing game. For example when someone exits I want them to be able to save and exit, then come back and click continue to pick up where they left off with all of the graphics in the right place, timer and score. I looked at onSaveInstanceState android examples, but not sure if this is what I need or how to implement it in my case.

I'm heading to Halifax, Nova Scotia for a week and will be bringing my Hero with me. I'll be calling Sprint customer support to see what options are available for voice and data, but I trust the advice of folks in this forum.
Is there any international voice and data plan that i can sign up for so that I don't end up paying sky-high roaming rates? I really don't want to have to keep my phone in airplane mode the whole week. Any advice from travelers to the "Great White North" would really be appreciated, eh?

Before all these new updates or w/e I was able to stream videos on my Evo 4g off of Crunchyroll.com in SD, but now when I go to stream the videos the video works ok, but the sound is really really weird, it sounds like slowmo audio like a deep slow manly voice when it's supposed to be a girl talking etc. Does anyone know about this issue or how to fix it? It works ok in 480p but that takes a lot longer to load usually, so I'd rather use SD like I had been for a while now.
