HTC Incredible :: Serious Lack Of Common SenseUI

Jul 8, 2010

I find it amusing how many Senseless ROMS are popping up. The majority of all ROMS thus far are Senseless and I don't really get it. The main reason I sold my MotoDroid to get the HTC Incredible was for SenseUI and now everybody is wanting to ditch it. I need more Sense ROMs to play with and theres just nothing to choose from. SO I figured I would start a poll and see if I am the only one. So is it a Sense or Senseless ROM preference?

Android :: Getting List Of Contacts On SenseUI 2.1?

May 5, 2010

This is simple enough on every other version of Android, including SenseUI 1.5.

//For Contacts
Intent pickIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, People.CONTENT_URI);
this.startActivityForResult(pickIntent, RESULT);
//For Phones
Intent pickIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, Phones.CONTENT_URI);
this.startActivityForResult(pickIntent, RESULT);

On SenseUI 2.1 (HTC Incredible) this shows a list of numbers (the URI number). So you get a list of 1-200 if you have 200 contacts. Selecting one of the contacts you can then gather all of the information needed. Is there any good work around known?

How can I tell if a device is using HTC's SenseUI? I thought about using android.os.Build information, but they seem inconsistent. Is there a more definitive way? I need to be able to tell if I can launch the calendar by using com.android.calendar or com.htc.calendar.

I've flashed with the new froyo ROM with senseUI and am finding it brill. One quirk though is that when typing out a text message, there's no key in the bottom left to minimize/esc from the keyboard. If I use the Back key it exits the app (chomp). It's still beta!)

HTC EVO 4G :: SenseUI Works In Landscape Mode And Kickstand

May 20, 2010

Am I the only one who thinks HTC needs to get on the ball and tweak SenseUI to work in landscape mode? I mean seriously, they built the hardware with the kickstand for it to sit in landscape mode yet the software is stuck in portrait. Does anyone know of a reference that lists the differences between stock Android and SenseUI?

HTC Droid Eris :: SenseUI Homescreen Going Into Landscape Mode?

Apr 12, 2010

Somehow I got my phone to go into a landscape mode home screen, I'm running 2.1 v2 and I've had the phone for almost 5 months and I've never seen this happen, and now I can't make it happen again. Turning it on its side does nothing to the home screen. Has anybody else seen this? The phone was just an icon and everything seemed to look fine, like it was meant to be landscaped.

Sprint HTC Hero :: Why To Prefer SenseUI / Stock Android ROMs?

Jul 21, 2010

Just a small discussion. Curious as to why people prefer Sense-less ROM's. Android is the best cell phone OS I have ever used, and I think the SenseUI only improves it, aesthetically(sp?) and socially speaking. The tiny lag my Hero suffers is worth it for all of the beautiful widgets, the launcher, the Facebook and Twitter integrations and did I mention. I have never described anything electronic as beautiful before! The stock Android look captivates me until I use it. It seems so bland and *ugh* to me. And as far as speed goes, the Senseless ROM's I have tried are no faster then the Fresh ROM I am running, and if it is it's completely unnoticed by me. But anyways I am just curious what reasons you have for using the SenseUI or stock Android OS, whether it be for apps to run more efficiently, speed, whatever. Just curious, might try a couple new ROM's soon.

HTC Droid Eris :: Application Killers Seem To Force SenseUI To Restart?

Apr 23, 2010

I am rooted and rom'd and everything works great. But I have noticed that when using app killers sometimes (maybe 1 out of 10 times) When I kill all apps my SenseUI restarts. So I've started looking at the apps that are being killed before killing them to see if I could find out what is causing this but everything seems to be normal and I cant figure out why this is happening.

HTC Droid Eris :: Wall Paper That Spans All 6 Pages Of The SenseUI Desktop

Jan 10, 2010

Is there a way to make a wall paper that spans all 6 pages of the SenseUI desktop rather than having the same image Copied to all 6 pages?

I was in the IRC room the other day, and was told by a couple of users that they had tried a few things and it wasn't possible.

Then today I was playing around the forums and Disabled SenseUI to check out the Android Home, for shits and giggles no attempt to keep it.

I set a background in Home, which spanned all 3 Home pages... when scrolling thru it actually looked like you were moving along a Image 3x the width of one screen.

When I went back to SenseUI.... that same background was there on all 6 pages no copies at all.....

Any1 kno how to make our on like this and install it on the phone? What would the resolution be on one page or multiple pages?

Android :: Trying Out An App / It Crashed Phone

May 15, 2010

I was trying out an app, I think it's called Continuous Photo and it completely crashed my phone. I can't turn it on. I plugged it into the wall to see if that would help and it made the sound that one would expect when it's charging and the home, menu, and return buttons all lit up, but not the screen. It's a brand new phone that I've only had for 4 days. Is the problem, that I tried to complete a function using the app, that I didn't have enough memory for? No matter what the reason is, how can I fix it? I'm freaking out here.

Android :: App Got Crashed On SDK 1.5 - Working Fine On SDK 1.0

May 11, 2009

I have developed an application which has tabActivity using SDK 1.0 r2.

1st Tab contains List view. -> the list contains some images

2nd and 3rd contains some webviews.

The app works fine on G1 mobile.

Today I downloaded SDK 1.5 and ran the same app on SDK 1.5.

The app got crashed when I scroll down/up the list items very fast (fling)

code:............

I am not understanding the above error log.

Then I experimented some thing like this: I removed the TabActivity, just shown only list activity. Then I scroll down/up the list items. Then there is no crash.

General :: Messaging Crashed After Importing From IOS?

I tried to import my messages from IOS to Android 4.2 using isms2droid and SMS Backup & Restore. Now, I can see all the people that I sent a message to, but as soon as I try to go into the conversation, Messaging crashes and all the conversations are gone, I can still use the phone just not Messaging. However, restarting the phone allows me to see the names again, but again as soon as I enter a conversation they disappear. I tried to delete all the messages using SMS Backup & Restore but it just stalls on the "deleting messages" box. Now I can't delete any messages nor send any new ones.

Android :: Service (Run Forever) Crashed - No Longer Want

Jul 21, 2010

We have a Service that continuously collects sensor data on the phone. This service should run "forever", e.g. as long as the user wants, and not be killed by the system. For clarification, this service is not intended for an app to be released in the market to the general public, it is written for a scientific study. So the people running the app are fully aware that their battery will sucked empty faster than usual, this is no problem. Anyways, my problem is that the service gets killed after a while of running. Sometimes after an hour, sometimes only after like 7 oder 10 hours. The Log-Entries when the service gets killed look like this. It just says "no longer want", sometimes without even calling onDestroy(), as far as I can tell.
07-20 17:07:11.593 I/ActivityManager(85): No longer want my.project.datalogging (pid 23918): hidden #16
07-20 17:07:11.593 I/WindowManager(85): WIN DEATH: Window{44c61570 my.project.datalogging/my.project.datalogging.DataLoggingApp paused=false}
07-20 17:07:11.603 I/BackgroundService(23925): onDestroy()

Or later (after I manually restarted it):
07-20 19:00:49.677 I/ActivityManager(85): No longer want my.project.datalogging:BackgroundService (pid 24421): hidden #17
07-20 19:00:49.677 I/ActivityManager(85): No longer want my.project.datalogging (pid 24415): hidden #18
07-20 19:00:49.807 85 10707 I WindowManager: WIN DEATH: Window{44f1ea58 my.project.datalogging/my.project.datalogging.DataLoggingApp paused=false}

I often see other services being killed with "no longer want" and then immediately restarted with "Scheduling restart of crashed service". For example here with runkeeper:
07-20 17:30:45.503 I/ActivityManager(85): No longer want com.fitnesskeeper.runkeeper (pid 24090): hidden #16
07-20 17:30:45.603 W/ActivityManager(85): Scheduling restart of crashed service com.fitnesskeeper.runkeeper/.services.RunKeeperService in 5000ms
07-20 17:33:52.989 I/ActivityManager(85): Start proc com.fitnesskeeper.runkeeper for service com.fitnesskeeper.runkeeper/.services.RunKeeperService: pid=24292 uid=10099 gids={3003, 1015}

The logs show no record of low memory. Testing is done on (several) Nexus One with 2.2 (Froyo FRF91). Is there any way I can achieve this behaviour with my app? Automatic restarting after being killed? Or this this something totally different that just looks similar in logcat?

Android :: BroadcastReceiver To Restart Killed - Crashed App?

Sep 14, 2010

I have an application and I would like to be able to restart it on the event of an error or a crash/app shutdown. I am familiar with how to register BroadcastReceivers, use alarms, etc.

Is there any signal I could intercept that the app sends out when it shuts down? Or that the OS sends out when any app shuts down?
