Dec 1, 2010So about three weeks ago I switched from ATT iPhone to Verizon DX.Couldn't have been happier, I've been an ATT network apologist for years, and I am eating my words with gusto.Also, absolutely love the android. Now, the first DX they gave me would freeze on the motorola screen when I would turn it off (wait a couple few minutes) and turn it back on. I would have to do a battery pull and wait at least an hour to put the battery back in and turn it on in order to get it to boot. Brought it in, got a new one. This one starts up just fine every time, but I'm having two noticeable problems so far.
1 - It is waaaay slower than the first DX I had. I was so impressed/happy with the responsiveness of that first phone. Absolutely no lag anywhere, no lag on the unlock bar, no lag opening apps, scrolling through contacts, nothing. Now I'm getting very choppy lag on the unlock, contacts, apps, facebook and googlemaps will stop responding, etc...
2 - When I try to open the battery manager usage statistics, it gives me an error "The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly.
I have looked through some other lag threads on here, and have tried turning off animations, changing to performance mode, neither having any real effect.My settings and apps are identical to the first phone (neither rooted by the way), what happened here?

Oct 15, 2009I am trying to play a video in my app. It has to be embedded.I am able to play my video using VideoView as mentioned in this discussion. But there are a few problems.
1. I need full screen video, how to stretch videoview to full screen ? will that stretch the video too ?
2. i dont need the default play forward stop buttons at all. basically I need continuous loop playing of the video.
What is the string format should look like if i have my video file in res/raw directory ? I really dont want video file played from sdcard. how can it be bundled along with the app ?if any of these 2 approaches works, i will be better off.

Jul 26, 2010I'm getting my Desire soon, and I'm worried about protecting the phone properly. Specifically, I've heard that people have problems with the camera lens getting scratched because the phone rests on it if you lay it down on its back. Are there any cheap cases out there that can help solve the resting-on-the-lens problem? A cheap gel case off of ebay would be ideal.Also, what other steps should I take to protect the camera lens?

Jul 31, 2010If I type a word in fast, the phone is still processing the first few letters. This is sometimes not always. Okay here is a good test, it also forms a lag in text messaging but only does it when I am sending a mass text message out to the maximum ten receipients. Please see if you can reproduce my problem. Again set the keyboard to android, open the stock messaging program, add up to the maximum ten contacts, then try composing a message. Does your keyboard processing come to a crawl also?

Mar 31, 2010I am designing a home screen widget. I ran this widget on a HTC Hero device, which has a screen of 320 pixels * 480 pixels with mdpi. It ran perfect on HTC Hero. The widget takes 3 cells * 2 cells space, i.e. 240 pixels * 200 pixels.Then I ran this widget on a Nexus One device, which has a screen of 480 pixels * 800 pixels, mdpi. Since Nexus One also is mdpi, so I though 240dip is equivalent to 240 pixels on Nexus One and 200dip is equivalent to 200 pixels on Nexus One, so the widget will not take 3 cells * 2 cells space on Nexus One device. To my surprise, when running on Nexus One device, the widget take exact 3 cells * 2 cells, about 360 pixels * 300 pixels, on Nexus One device.I am confused. The layout xml above specifies 240dip in width and 200dip in height for the widget, but why did it take 360 pixels * 300 pixels on Nexus One Device? What am I missing?

Jul 3, 2010anyone have this problem w/ the moment whereby your face touches the screen and causes accidentally pressed keys, things to move on screen, etc. associated w/ touching the screen? I think I remember this happening once or twice on the moment but admittedly, I don't use it much so not sure if the lock screen was on, screen was off, etc. Just looking to see if anyone if affected by this or if it's a known problem.

Mar 30, 2010From Android widget screen guidelines,we know that, home screen has 4*4 cells, and in portrait orientation, each cell is 80 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. I think these are for baseline HVGA screen. How about for large screens and hdpi screens, do they still have 4*4 cells for widget and each cell in portrait orientation is still 80 pixels * 100 pixels?

May 29, 2010is it possible to manually rotate the screen or fix the current screen orientation (with a key/button)? because it really annoys me having taken portrait pictures that cannot be viewed (with the media gallery application) in a portrait fashion on the milestone. this is because it always rotates the portrait picture back to landscape when rotating the milestone from landscape to portrait. right now there is no way of properly viewing portrait pictures on the milestone other than tilting your head (holding the milestone landscape and tilting your head along).this cannot be the way it was intended to be, right? or do I have to get a different viewing software which allows you to choose screen orientation? is there such an app?

Apr 13, 2010Tried rooting so I started off flashing r8 of bh_man's 1.6 rom. Went through the setup, odin turned blue to pass and I let the phone run past the android system and then the screen turned off.
Thing about it is that the phone is still being detected by the computer and odin. It's like my phone is on a screen lock but not responding to when I push unlock.
Ive tried every custom rom and each one does the same. I try to go back to stock and most of the time the program closes, when it doesn't I try to flash it and it goes through the process but goes on forever. One time I let the timer go on for 2 hours and it was still on 5/9 completed.

Somehow I managed to scratch the screen protector and now I want to remove it however I'm having much difficulty removing it. Now I'm thinking if I should get a replacement screen protector as the Rogers version doesn't come with a spare one or just go without it. Anyone without the screen protector wanna add input about the durability of the mineral glass screen? I know that the screen on the iPod Touch 2G is very durable since I own one without having a protector on but I want to know if the X10s screen is just as durable.

Dec 2, 2010This was reported in the other thread about X8 Issues, but thought to start a new one to gather feedback from users. It's about the ''black screen'' freezing issue encountered by some users. I have had this several times since owning the phone for a few weeks, so it is a recurring issue. Problem: The phone hangs or appears to be shut down or become unresponsive suddenly. Pressing the hardware buttons doesn't help as the phone doesn't react at all. Solution: Take out cover and battery and restart.Observations: From my own observations, it's not actually a shutdown but a major freezing/hanging. Sometimes when it happens, I can still see vague shades of the display at an angle. After leaving the phone for a while in the pocket, the phone comes back to normal again. Not sure if this is true for all users with this problem. Anyway, gathering more feedback to see how prevalent the problem is, to evaluate whether I should take it to the SE service centre, or whether doing so will help at all.

Aug 6, 2010This morning my alarm started unexpectedly at 6am. The lock screen turned into the snooze/stop screen. Dragging down didn't stop it it.. It came on every ten minutes for the next hour. My alarms were set to 9:45am and 8:30pm as usual. Even turning the phone off and on didn't stop the beeping. It was my 9:45am ringtone even. (The two are set differently)

2.1 Update :: Lack Of Screen Lock Whilst In Call Screen?
Dec 2, 2010With the old 1.6 software on my X10, the lack of an automatic screen lock when in an active call was mildly annoying, as not all areas of the screen were active. However, with the new 2.1, just about anywhere on the screen becomes active (especially when juggling two simultaneous calls). What are the chances that we'll see a 'lock screen' function for phone calls? Those of us who actually use the phone for phone calls whilst holding it would surely appreciate it. Other android devices have had this for years.
