HTC EVO 4G :: Ripping YouTube Videos For Offline Playback On Phone
Jun 29, 2010
I wanted so show a friend the new Lady Gaga video on my evo. However I noticed it wasn't available for mobile playback as well as a number of other videos. Here is a very simple solution.
Step 1 - You need firefox (if your still on ie, you should switch to firefox anyway)
Step 2 - Install Easy YouTube Video Downloader HERE
Step 3 - Once installed, load up your favorite music on youtube such as Alejandro!
Step 4 - You will now see a new set of links below the video as shown below
Step 5 - Click MP4 and it will instantly start downloading without doing anything else. I have tried the other formats and have found mp4 to be the best for the evo.
Step 6 - Once the video is down downloading, locate the file, connect your evo with data cable, make sure to select disk drive on the screen, open up the removable drive from my computer, make a folder called Videos, drag the file you downloaded to the folder, close the window and disconnect the cable.
Step 7 - Open up your Videos folder under All Aps, you will now see the video there with a thumbnail and you can now play it offline.
Conclusion - The only reason I did this was because some of the videos I couldn't play back via the YouTube app, but it is nice to have them saved so your not using data not that it really matters but will save on battery and loads instantly. I also tried 720P and couldn't get it to play on the evo but I think the MP4 format looks just fine on the evo (depending on the source of course) and it also doesn't take up very much room. Best part it it's VERY FAST to do this, no re-encoding or doing all this other crap to get it to play. It's plug and play.

I want to playback youtube videos on android. I came to know (from the below mentioned link) that adobe demostrated flash player for android, but they haven't released the code yet. Is there an alternative way to playback youtube video's on android? Is there an application that supports flash content playback on android already (though I couldn't find any on "android market" or related sites) or any development work is underway?

On Ubnuntu it is possible to grab the raw flv file from /tmp after the browser has fully cached it. I want to take this file and drop it onto the phone (HTC Desire in my case) to watch offline. But the video format is not supported. Using ffmpeg I tried to convert it to different supported types (wmv, mp4), but it still does not play. Is there any prescribed way of doing this?

I moved from the iphone to the hero and so far things have been great. Now to my question. On my iphone I had jailbroke it and was able to get an app to fool the phone into thinking it was on wifi when using the network data. This resulted in high quality youtube playback like when in wifi at home. Is there an app or a way to get the same thing on the android OS? Been looking around and have yet to find something. On another note. I have two gmail accounts set up on my hero and only get the proper push with one of them. Is this common?

I am a new android/captivate buyer. Try as I might (googled for a few hours) I could not find anything on the Captivate and it's Hd playback. My question is: Is there a way I can play Youtube HD on my Captivate via stream? (and NO I don't mean High Quality I mean straight up HD *720p*.).
I'm just mad the iphone 4 can and I can't find a way to do it on my captivate.

I need to store my how-to videos on a server so they play back on an Android app via a simple html <a href> link. So far, I haven't found one yet. Livedrive is out. Some web hosts are out because they don't want to be a place to store videos, etc.

Just got my long awaited Desire. US Cellular CDMA Desire Version. When I playback a video the picture quality is terrible. The movements lag, big time. [B]With being new I have a couple of question, as to why this is happening or is it normal?
1. Do I need a different software (app) for playback of videos?
2. Do I need to download some sort of plug in?
3. Is it because, I don't have Froyo 2.2 yet?
As most of you have had the HTC Desire for sometime, as we just got them in the USA; I was hoping someone could chime in and help me.

I want to get the input/opinions of some other people on this topic. I have a couple of big events coming up that I will be recording with my (soon to have) Evo. Now I know that Qik is gonna be huge when it comes to 2 way video calls, but my question/dilemma is to either use the native Camcorder/Video Camera app and upload them to Youtube, or to use the Qik app and have it stored on the Qik site. From what I've heard and seen, when a video is recorded/streamed to Qik, the quality that results on the Qik site is NOT nearly as good as what you're actually seeing and recording on your screen (compression, whatever, bla bla bla). However, I have seen videos on Youtube from people with EVO's where the quality is a ton better and it looks really good. So, why would anyone want to use the Qik app to take video recordings, when the end result on their website is of less quality as supposed to using the Camcorder/Video Camera app and posting it to Youtube? Is the only benefit for Qik is that people can watch your video being streamed pretty much right then and there (with only a little delay)?

As the HTC Evo 4Gs are slowly making their way into the hands of people (after the Google I/O event), it seems that 720p videos are making their way onto Youtube. I've collected a handful so that people could see what was representative of the Evo's video. I've noted whether they are indoors or outdoors since the amount of light can have a significant impact on the quality of the video.

I am writing an application to play the you tube videos using streaming. First method: I am getting the RTSP URL to the video using GData APIs. Here is the code to play the RTSP url. VideoView mVideoView = new VideoView(this); setContentView(mVideoView); mVideoView.setVideoURI(Uri.parse("rtsp://rtsp2.youtube.com/CiILENy73wIaGQkDwpjrUxOWQBMYESARFEgGUgZ2aWRlb3MM/0/0/0/video.3gp")); mVideoView.start(); But it throws error on both G1 device and emulator (Emulator has some firewall problem as per mailing list) Here is the error message ERROR/PlayerDriver(35): Command PLAYER_INIT completed with an error or info PVMFFailure, Second method: A hack way to get the path of 3gp file from http://www.youtube.com/get_video?v=<VideoID>&t=<>&<>.. After getting the file path and I can call setVideoURI and it plays fine. But it is a hack way to achieve the requirement. I have checked the Youtube App also, it also does the hack way to play the you tube url.(Checked with logcat). I have tried changing from VideoView to Media Player but no change in the error. Is there a "Clean" way to do this?

Problem is that all teh WIFIs in my hood are password protected. any ideas to work around this? Maybe my settings are off? I just bought my first android phone. Everything works tip top, however there's zero audio for youtube videos and also for that other program. I forget the name, GoTv is something. Anyway, no audio with either. What's going on? I've looked through settings and even through my little instruction book and there's nothing on having to turn on the sound.

I'm running stock 2.2 OTA on my incredible. I attempted to upload a vid to youtube via "share" in the video album and failed. At first I thought it might be the camera locking the file. So I kill the camera app. Try again, nothing. It fails. I connect to my WiFi @ home see if it helps to no avail. It keeps trying to upload for a few times and eventually fails. I had to USB them to my pc and then upload them from there.

I couldn't get youtube videos to play with my HDTV before the update. Now I can with my Samsung HDTV!
After the update, I just tried something that I didn't see before:
1. When you connect HDMI cable in your phone, it brings the "Video out Connected" in the notification bar, before when I clicked on it, nothing happened (at least on my phone nothing happened), now that I click on it, it gives three options for your output video
Automatic
720p (1280x720)
480p (720x480)
2. It plays youtube videos.
Now, I know for a fact that the update was the reason for this.
Before, I got a "MODE NOT SUPPORTED" message and it didn't even bring the three options above, and now I can play youtube videos.
