Another way to find a specific contact reasonably or much quicker than scrolling through your contact list from top to bottom to fin the name. Even using the little letter thing on the side is quirky and inefficient at best.

I know that I can get some informations from the Sim card by using the TelephonyManager class, but I couldn't find any specific method to get its country and area code, and also if the user is on roaming the area code would probably change to the location he currently is.

I try to query contacts in a specific group by GroupMembership. But It only works fine with system built-in group "Starred in Android".
My codes is like this:

Is this a bug for SDK1.5 R2?

I've done a good bit of searching on this and it seems to work as long as the contact is stored on the phone however the option is NOT there when it's a contact sync'd from Google.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to store some app-specific data in the contacts db. Is it safe to stuff random things into the Contacts.Settings table? Will it affect the GUI? Does anybody have an example of doing that? It's not really clear to me if there's a proper mechanism for this, or if the settings table is reserved for the systems own use.
BTW my first attempt was to use an app specific database, but then users would uninstall the app, reinstall it later and wonder why it didn't work. My second attempt was to stuff the data into the JPEG headers but the sync process deletes them, presumably for security reasons. So if there's no way to store my things in the contacts db directly, I think I'm out of luck - I'll have to look at steganographically encoding the data into the raw pixels themselves!
Is there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section? If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed.

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo as expected I got too impatient to wait for Vodafone to officially launch 2.2 so I bit the bullet, debranded the handset and got the update. Im glad I did as I understand that Vodafone have just rolled out a sneaky update loading the handset with rubbish. Thought I would share the experience with my fellow Vodafone users including the guide that I used in order to complete the installation. This turned out to be a very easy process which took around an hour from start to finish inc the 2.2 update and restoring apps etc.

Worked a treat on my handset but as with all these things I can't accept any responsibility for any loss or damage that may occur if you decide to go down the same route that I did. Also please be aware that debranding your handset may invalidate the warranty should anything go wrong. I notice that some of the base applications in Android are using this little control (View in Android terms I guess) that shows the contact picture. When you click on the picture it shows all the ways of contacting the person (phone, sms, talk, facebook). I see this little View used in the contact app, sms app, twitter for android, facebook for android etc.
Is there a library or a way of getting this working on my own application or do I need to write this from scratch?
After updating my Hero to 2.1 I have noticed that the battery drains much quicker now even after I've done all recommended tweaks (switching off Always On, reducing frequency of updates etc.). Has anyone also experienced the same problem. Some people mentioned that battery life of their phones improved after the update.

I tried finding the people app int he apps list and clear settings, but it still uses the wrong app?
Does everyone keep their screen brightness on auto or do you set it manually. I notice when it's on auto, sometimes the screen doesn't light up all the way. Will setting it manually drain the battery quicker? I notice in my battery usage that it says display is at like 74%. Not sure if that's normal or not. I have the brightness set at about 1/4 of the way up.

View 8 Replies View RelatedWith a lot of apps eg, camera, pictures appears in the gallery immediately, but some apps like Dropbox or blackmoon Attachsave, if you put a picture or MP3 or whatever on the card, they can not appear for ages.
One way on my Galaxy Apollo is to plug in USB and go into storage mode, it then scans the disk (A little icon in the status bar) and the media is now there.
A more extreme way is to unmount the card and then physically remove it and re-insert (I dont have to remove the battery) and it sets off a scan.
Is there anyway to trigger a media scan from within android to make it quicker for stuff to appear?
Just picked up my incredible, and I have two questions....
1. how do i change the email notification to a specific sound? As of rite now, when i receive an email nothing happens (no sound or vibrate).
2. How do I select a specific ring for mms. I know how to select sms, but I cant figure out how to change the mms.
I have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?
I am working on an application that needs to find GPS location of the user. While testing my code on Droid i am unable to find the GPS location. While googling i found this link to an issue raised with Google.
But apps like Yelp can find the GPS location on droid. Is there a workaround to find the user location on a device? Here's the code I am using code....
Anyone else have this issue or know a fix? Contact pictures show in contact details and in the contacts app, but not in the dial or when I get a call. Contact management is the only thing I don't like about my X.

I went into contacts -> menu -> more -> settings. I am UNABLE to check/unchecked the "Phone Contacts" (it is always checked). The goggle one i am able to check/unchecked. WHY and HOW can i toggle the phone contact? Also, backup assistant only takes PHONE contacts and not GOOGLE contacts...while g mail contact sync only takes goggle contacts and NOT PHONE contacts. How can one change phone contact to goggle contact? (i have seen posts all over but no answers...and just replies saying "i have the same problem") I am trying NOT to have two (2) different types of contacts. PHONE and GOOGLE. I just want goggle contacts ( or phone contacts. so i can at least use verizon's backup assistant.

When I go to send a text message and press contacts, my contacts are there multiple times, but I can't see any differences because they are named the same. For example, my son Adam shows up twice in the contact list in text messaging, but only once when I press contacts from my home page.
