View 2 Replies View RelatedGot the new Galaxy (specifically the vibrant) and I love it. One thing I can't figure out though. How do you set a custom (mp3) ringtone to a specific contact? I've done a good bit of searching on this and it seems to work as long as the contact is stored on the phone however the option is NOT there when it's a contact sync'd from Google.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some questions about the ringtones and alarms on ICS.
1. How could I set a mp3 for the alarm tone? I copy a mp3 file to the alarms folder but I can not set it.
2. I want to set a ringtone to a contact when calling, but not for notifications, is this possible?
I set a ringdroid custom ringtone for my wife's phone calls. A few times in the last week, her call will not activate that ringtone, instead just ringing the default. Also, the last call didn't even have her Caller ID or photo... just the phone number... it's like it didn't recognize she was a contact at all? The only thing I can think of was I was using the music player when she called... is is possibly the "cut-in" that caused the disconnect? Don't know, but I've tried to duplicate it, and it reverts back to "normal" every time I try.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to store some additional data for each contact on Android.
I would have in mind creating my own database table for it, and then bind them to the real contact via a unique id.
I am wondering if Android has built in functionality to store additional data against contacts?
EDIT 2
Is there a defined field for birthday of the contact?
How do I store a date field?
How do I set a contact ringtone? The manual makes it seem like you pull up the ringtone in the music app and then hit menu->set ringtone.I can't find my sdcard/ringtone files when I go through the music app. If I go through astro and load the ringtone in music, I don't get that option.I even tried this for the ringtone that is my default ringer and that doesn't give me the option either, but I know it's a valid to be used as a ringtone, since it is my default ringtone.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had androids for over two years now and am getting more and more concerned every time I download an app and seeing that it wants to READ my SMS message and Contacts.
Is there a way I can disable reading of SMS messages or any one of the other permissions by specific apps, or all apps?
Are we living in a world where any "joe schmo" can upload an app the to the app store and wait for those inadvertent downloads and collect all your personal information, and that's after all the time we spend protecting our identity and personal details?
Is there any way to sync only one specific contacts group, rather than all contacts?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to store some app-specific data in the contacts db. Is it safe to stuff random things into the Contacts.Settings table? Will it affect the GUI? Does anybody have an example of doing that? It's not really clear to me if there's a proper mechanism for this, or if the settings table is reserved for the systems own use.
BTW my first attempt was to use an app specific database, but then users would uninstall the app, reinstall it later and wonder why it didn't work. My second attempt was to stuff the data into the JPEG headers but the sync process deletes them, presumably for security reasons. So if there's no way to store my things in the contacts db directly, I think I'm out of luck - I'll have to look at steganographically encoding the data into the raw pixels themselves!
How can I assign a ringtone per contact? I'm very new to android in general and I just bought the new Motorola droid.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to sync only one specific Google contact group rather than getting everyone that happens to have a phone number from the generic "All Contacts" section? If I go into the standalone Contacts app the only contacts I see on the "Contacts: Google" list are the ones I want but when I go into the contacts in the phone app everyone and their grandparents are listed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedPerhaps I'm a moron today (don't answer that). But I've been trying to assign an individual ringtone to my wife's number (she doesn't care for "Secret Prayer" by Joe Satriani, suggested something by ABBA, and is lucky she isn't getting "Scolding Wife" by Great Big Sea) but I haven't had any luck. Is this a Captivate thing? The other android phones seem to be easy enough.

View 8 Replies View RelatedJust picked up my incredible, and I have two questions....
1. how do i change the email notification to a specific sound? As of rite now, when i receive an email nothing happens (no sound or vibrate).
2. How do I select a specific ring for mms. I know how to select sms, but I cant figure out how to change the mms.
I purchased my moment about 2 weeks ago and have been having fun figuring it out however there are some areas where I am having problems.
1. When you want to attach a document it selects the picture folder/area, how do you browse instead of being forced into that area.
2. I downloaded ringtone app and have found the app quite useful, the problem I am having is, the ringtones I have created don't show up in all the ringtone areas of my phone, what needs to be done to correct this.
3. The basic user guide that comes with the phone says there is an app I can download called samsung new pc studio. When I call sprint or samsung they say this app is not available or can't be used by a casd(the u.s. standard, I think casd is right), they say this software is only for the other standard, I did find this app on the web. Is what sprint and samsung saying true if not can I use the ones I found on the web.
4. If you could choose only ten apps to have(free)which ones would you choose?
I used the htc ringtone trimmed for one of the song in my music library on my phone and I'm sorry if there is already a thread for this but how are you able to delete these ringtones when you no longer want them? The program its self works fine for making ringtones but I cannot find anyway to delete them. I even looked in Astro. If someone doesnt mind could they please lend some advice on this. I've searched in the forums and I havnt found a solution to it.

2. How do I change the name of a ringtone file?
I'd like to set a new default ringtone without using the ringtone picker. In other words, there is a certain ringtone that is already installed on my system, and I want to programmatically set it to be my default ringtone without any human interaction. The reason I want this is because every time I reboot my N-1, my previous default ringtone setting gets forgotten, and I am given another ringtone that I don't like. I want to set up an app that I can run manually (or better yet, to cause to automatically run upon startup) which will reset my default ringtone to the one that I like without my having to manually do this via the Settings.
The only examples I have found so far for doing this involve using the ringtone picker, but as far as I can tell, this requires human interaction, which I want to avoid.
Hey all, so I just got a Samsung Galaxy finally in the mail. It took long enough to figure out how to put music on it, then use my music for ringtones. But when I am in Settings for Notification Ringtones, I do not see the mp3 I added but only in Calling Ringtones. Why is this? I want to use the same ringtone for notifications too!.
