HTC EVO 4G :: POWERMAT Wireless Charging
Oct 25, 2010
Just picked up the Powermat for the Evo during my lunch break.I was excited to get back to my office and plug it in...everything I've heard is that the new battery door incorporates a battery as well.Turns out I was wrong. So the battery door feels like the same material as the stock EVO battery door, however, instead of a battery coming attached to the door--there is a small power cable that runs along the inside cover, and ends in a microUSB connector that plugs into the EVO's charging port.I haven't made up my mind yet for keeping it. It will clearly make any kind of a case difficult.

Why is conductive "wireless" charging so slow to reach cell phones? Both Powermat and Messless have chargers on the market (with adapters for iPhones and little else). You have to use a universal adapter - which means you are plugging it in anyway. I paid $12 for a Wiimote charging stand that uses the same basic technology. I just want a cradle/dock type of thing that I can drop my phone into and it starts charging. I get annoyed plugging and unplugging the device each time. Are there any manufacturers out there reading this forum and want my money? :-)

The main reason i wanted a rooted phone was so i could connect to my laptops ad hoc network and use a program for wireless keyboard and mouse. i cant really afford the real thing at the moment and with my laptop hooked up to my flat screen its kind of necessary to have..
So ive rooted my phone and tried a few roms. currently i have this one: [ROM] [05/18/2010] Tainted Vanilla V1.4 OVERCLOCKED - xda-developers
I always run into the same problem though. wired or wireless, i cant get it to connect right. wired never works in any way but i dont really care about that. wireless however shows some signs of working. it shows some data has been sent, not received though. and my computer will detect and connect to it, but seems to lose the signal after a few moments. when i bring up a browser it doesnt even look like something might load. it just says im offline. could someone help me with this?
The other part of this problem is i really just want to connect to my computers ad hoc network and use a wireless keyboard and mouse program. none of them seem that great unfortunately.. recommendations are appreciated. but my biggest issue is that i cant seem to connect to an ad hoc network. i believe my phone detected it only once while i was on the "white widow" rom, but could never quite connect..

My HTC Wildfire shows a red LED when charging, which changes to green when fully charged. But as I have red/green colour blindness I cannot tell when it is fully charged. Anyone know of an app that will allow me to change these colours?

Now I know that we're all happy that there is hdmi out on this thing, but I was wondering if wireless output would be possible? It would be nice to get this hooked up to a tv without having a wire coming out of your device.

The official notes for today's update have been released. Engadget reports "still don't have confirmation on whether improvements to WiFi performance means 802.11n." Some one with an 802.11n only router try to connect.

I was wondering about this earlier in the weekend because I know the Nexus One features a broadcom communications chipset that features 802.11n support. Searching did not turn up any specifications on the Evo with regard to its wireless package though... until today. i Fix it just released its teardown of the Evo 4G, ( HTC Evo 4G Teardown - Page 2 - iFixit ) and it turns out that it features the Broadcom BCM4329 chipset -- known to have 802.11n support! I've read that some people believe that wireless-n support for the Nexus One comes with Froyo... maybe this is something else to look forward to when Froyo comes to the Evo.

my htc evo is rooted, i have titanium backup and you need root for that application to work so my phone is rooted. i downloaded the wireless tethering app. succesfully but when i turn on tethering it the down speed stays at 0.4kB, 0.0kbps and the up speed stays at 0.1kB, 0.0kbps. it also used to pop up as a wireless connection but it wouldnt connect. now i just re-downloaded the app and it does the same exact thing but the wireless network doesnt show up.

I have a stock EVO with the latest OTA update (software version: 1.47.651.1) and it has never been rooted. All I want to do now is be able to use wireless tether (with multiple laptops) via my EVO. What is the easy/best way to achieve this? I know the first thing I need to do is root the EVO. Should I do this using Unrevoked, or using something like SimpleRoot? For my purposes, what's the difference b/t these two methods?
Next, is wireless tether an app that I have to download somewhere? If so, which is the best one (if there are more than one). Or will this feature surface automatically after rooting the phone. Or does it come on some ROM that I need to flash? And finally, what is this Radio/WiMax patch thing that everyone is trying to put on their phone?

Has anyone been able to get N wireless working. Spec sheets seem to conflict, some saying b/g only and some saying b/g/n (such as the support.vzw.com document). I can't seem to get my phone to connect to an N network.

I've written app for tablet. My app uses external devices like RFID reader and thermal printer. But devices are connected to the tablet using wired USB hub, then USB2Serial converter (FTDI or Prolific) and then device. I'm talking with them sending/receiving simple bytes to/from virtual port in Android. It works great.
But now I'm thinking about making such solution more mobile. I would like to have wireless USB hub, and tablet without any wires.
I have found such devices:
Belkin F5U301
Cables To Go Wireless USB Hub
and a few more.
Unfortunately, none of them have Android support.
I think, there should be a special driver for receiving wireless data and connecting such data to the virtual port in Android.

I updated to the official Froyo OTA from HTC (.6) and didn't have this problem before the update.
When I plug my EVO into an AC adapter (Belkin, not stock adapter) and then unplug it, notification bar says "Preparing SD Card" which normally only happens after hooking my EVO up to my PC and selecting "Disk Drive" and then unplugging.
As a result, when my EVO is plugged into an AC or USB (and select Charge Only), I can't look at photos, I can't use ASTRO to browse the SD contents and my phone doesn't even ring since my ringtone is an mp3 that's stored on the SD card.
Is this a problem anyone else is seeing? Should I follow the "How to fix Froyo" sticky? I didn't see this as an issue addressed, so I'd prefer not to go through it as I believe I don't have any other significant issues besides this one.
I'm using a Belkin AC Adapter and an A-DATA 16GB MicroSD card, though I have the same problem when plugging via USB into my computer and selecting "Charge Only" and I still can't access the MicroSD card.

I have had no problems in the last 6 months connecting my evo to my uverse router until yesterday. I went out of town for the weekend and ever since I have returned my phone will not connect to my router.I have "forgotten" the network and re-entered the password but that didn't fix the problem either. It just says "obtaining IP address".

Just got the EVO 4 and everything seems to work OK, except that my PC (Windows 7, 64 bit) cannot see it when I connect to my home wireless network. The EVO 4g says it is connected to my network OK, but the phone doesn't appear as a device or drive anywhere on the network where I can see it. USB connection works OK.

I've seen a lot of scattered comments about this subject, but it all seems inconsistent. I would absolutely love to have my phone be a wireless hotspot for my computer. However, I'd like to do this without being charged from sprint. Now I know this is obviously something sprint wouldn't want their customers to do so I have two main questions:
1) Do you absolutely have to root your phone for it to be able to act as a hotspot for free?
2) If so, what would be the negative effects of rooting your phone. I'm assuming it would void warranty. Anything else?

I just got a WiFi IPad so i'm wanting to wireless tether. I already had PDNet for my notebook but of course thats not going to work for the IPad. I looked at the 3G Hotspot feature on the incredible and of course i tried it just to see if it would work and it doesn't. You just get a verizon page when you try to browse the web. I know in the past you had to root to be able to tether wirelessly. With Froyo does that still hold true or is there some type of app you can download off the android marketplace? I don't know if i'm big on rooting my phone. Verizon i think will charge $20 for the convenience right?
