HTC EVO 4G : How To Manage Contacts Properly?

Jun 28, 2010

I was hoping for some advice on how to manage my contacts. I have a hotmail account, personal Exchange account, work Exchange account and Gmail. My personal Exchange account is my MAIN acct. I am using Touchdown for me 2 Exchange accts. My problem is that I now have duplicate contacts throughout the phone. Is there an easier way of managing my contacts? I do not want to give up my personal Exchange acct and just use Gmail.

General :: How To Manage Processes Properly

Feb 13, 2013

I have a GS2 skyrocket running CM10.1 and i've read that task managers are rather obsolete now. However I have noticed that when I let my phone run standard app process limit the battery life is around 30% worse than when I set the app limit to 4 processes in the developer settings. Now that I have CM10.1 and it doesn't have developer options, i'm wondering what I can do to limit my processes down to conserve battery?

Samsung Captivate :: Any Better Way To Manage Contacts?

Sep 24, 2010

First of all, I'm pretty darn happy with the Captivate but maybe my threshold for satisfaction is lower than most. Plus my GPS has been working great since the update. But there's one thing that frustrates me about the phone: Contacts. I have dozens of duplicate contacts. Dozens of linked contacts. Some contacts are stored on the phone, some on the SD card. Some are Google contacts, some Facebook contacts, some I'm not even sure. Some I can edit and add new information to (the ones stored on the phone), some I can't (the ones on the SD card.) This is the one part of this new phone that makes me miss my old Treo 750. Is there a simple way to manage/unlink/edit/update contacts that I'm just not seeing? Is there another, better contact management app besides the stock app? Any tips, suggestions from the Android experts out there?

Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Manage Google Contacts?

Jun 23, 2010

I just joined the world of smart phones and I'm loving my HTC Hero and the Android platform but I'm not understanding all the contacts. I've never been one to keep a very neat & tidy Google contact book (though, I guess it's about time to start), so I'm noticing that now that I've synced my phone with my Google account, I have TONS upon TONS of contacts -- many of which I don't even want in my phone. Obviously, the phone has added my G mail contacts. So now, as I'm adding everyone's phone numbers (something I never kept in G mail), I'm added it to their Google Contacts listing. Is that the best way to do it? I've read a few posts about the topic and I see a lot from people who are previous smart phone users, but what about us newbies? So my question: Is there a way to make it so Google syncs everything *but* my Google Address Book, allowing me to only have my phone's contact list? What about hiding some contacts? If not, what are your suggestions for managing your Google contacts.

General :: Manage Contacts Among Two Gmail Accounts

Feb 29, 2012

My primary Gmail Account has about 300 contacts in it. I sync everything to and from this account.

My secondary Gmail account is for work and I have about 450 conacts in there. I sync emails and calendar events from this account BUT NOT CONTACTS.

Now I have about 80 contacts from the secondary work account that I need to move over to my primary Gmail account so they are in my phone. It seems like it would be a simple task but I can't find a way to do it. I don't want to sync the whole contact list which would result in duplicate or triplicate entries.

How do I do this?

Motorola Droid X : Contacts Not Showing Up Properly

Nothing in google, nothing in phone contacts.However, if I click the bottom left button (phone icon), it brings up all of my contacts.How can I get this migrated over to the other contacts? I tried backup assistant and m:IQ, with no luck. Neither of them back up the contacts listed on the left icon list.Any help is appreciated.

The problem is only Jamie shows up in my contact list. Luckily, I had my old phone and I was able to see which number belonged to who. I tried deleting both contacts and re-adding but the same thing happened. Can anybody else confirm this or is there some setting that I am unaware of (ie. group similar names)? Not a huge deal just curious.

Android :: Cannot Manage To Get ADB Working

May 25, 2010

I want to start developing for android and for some reason whatever I do I can not make ADB show up my Nexus One. Both on and off in development mode. Both SD Mount and without SD Mount Both With USB tethering on and off for all "ADB devices"(windows XP64bit) show no device (service started successfully, device recognized in Device Manager correctly).

Tried reinstalling drivers, tried uninstalling drivers completely(using 3rd party software) and reinstalling, tried different versions of USB driver (up to the one before the last - that came with the 2.1 SDK). It seems online that this issue reoccurs on different devices, but all of them seemed to solve with one of the above solutions, Which none worked for me. It does not look like a hardware problem, because everything else that is USB'ed works correctly.

Android :: How To Manage Connection To A Socket?

Jun 21, 2010

I would like to know what is the recommendation for socket connection management in Android?In our App we would like to be connected to a TCP/IP server when our app is in the foreground or paused. So, create a connection to a TCP/ IP server when the App starts basically, On Create of the launcher activity. However, we do not want to create a new connection and close connection every time an activity is created, paused, destroyed or orientation changed. So, we save the connection object in the App class and the activities will reuse the same connection.Question is when do I close it? I would like to close the socket when the App is "paused", "stopped" or "destroyed". The problem is these messages are not sent in the App context. How can I figure out if the App is in foreground or not? Even the "Terminated" event for an App is not guaranteed to be delivered. So, in that case how do I know when to disconnect?

Motorola Droid :: Need To Manage Downloads

Feb 20, 2010

Motorola Droid: On my downloads, I cant find a way to store them into my phone (I can view them), the way I view them through my browser, then pressing the "menu" button, and then "more" and then "downloads", and I view them like that. I also need to know how to rename them. I cant figure this out. I am not talking about my apps or widgets, when I say downloads.

I mean actual downloads. I tried going through my computer, and creating a folder to drag and drop into a new folder for easier access but apparently I cant create a folder that I can put on my home screen of my droid. I want to be able to put them into a folder on my homescreen and have them be viewable at my fingertips, instead of having to go through all those steps.

Android :: How To Manage Event By 2 Widgets?

Jul 10, 2010

I want to change how a gallery looks like. I want to add 2 jogs at each side, so looks like this:
http://omploader.org/vNHc2Yw/device.png

First approach was to add the "jogs" to the ImageAdapter (at the beginning and at the end) for the Gallery. The Gallery will show the items as usual, but It will apply the custom background and also if you specify spacing, you will get an ugly gallery. Also, I want the jog not to be centered as the others images. Then, I decided to download the whole api and modify the Gallery source in a way so to handle specially the first item and the last item of the adapter. But, I don't know how to compile the api alone. The Makefile in the root project will build 6gb of the whole android platform. If someone can explain me how to build just the API, I will be grateful.

The other approach was to compose Views. I thought to add ImageView's to the left and right corner and to be scrolled when needed, but when the Gallery capture the events I can't forward it to the holder of the ImageViews. So, I extend Gallery, and I override onScroll() like this:
super.onScroll(e1,e2,distanceX,distanceY); return false;
and also onTouchEvent() like this:
super.onTouchEvent(event); return false;
But unfortunately when I return false wihtin onTouchEvent() the Gallery does not scroll.

So, main questions are:
1) How can I compile the modified API to generete a MyGallery.class to be added to android.jar? If I modify the source code of Gallery.java I can manage the fill of the Gallery for the specific items I want (I already read the source code).
2) In other approach, Is it possible to handle one event by 2 widgets? If so, I could overlap the Gallery above a jog. The Gallery will scroll as he knows, and I will scroll as I want.
3) If those approachs are bad, what will you recommend ?

I don't get why the Gallery does not have this nice feature I want to implement, kind of: setBorders(left, right) and etc. The problem on extending Gallery, is that when you add a View (for instance, the "jog"), you specify a position. Gallery fills the gallery getting the Views of it container with: getChildAt(0) and getChildAt(numChildren -1) when filling to right and left, respectively. Then, it gathers the 'unseen' Views from the Adapter. So the added view (the 'jog') will be scrolled by Gallery, but when the view is no longer visible, the Gallery itself has no way to get back that view, as it's not in the Adapter.
