HTC EVO 4G :: How To Get Voice To SMS Texting With Evo?
Jun 16, 2010
Anyone doing Voice to SMS Texting with Evo? I've been doing this as a trial and am mostly satisfied. I haven't figured out if there's a way to do full control from start to send without touching the phone, but it's definitely close. Still can't do it while driving, but you can easily do it while at a stoplight much faster than typing. If anyone's figured out how to do it completely hands free without using Google Voice, let me know. I'm just using the features native to the phone.

I got an Android phone today (Samsung Transform Ultra) and I would like to use Google Voice for texting. I only have 100 MBs of data, however, so I would like to make sure that no other applications are using any data. How do I disable all data except for the data going to my Google Voice app?

For 2 years I've said a few words, waited for the droid to process them, said a few more words, waited, etc. About a month ago something happened such that if I pause in my speech, what I say next deletes everything I've said before and starts over.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. To say this is braindead is an understatement.
I can adjust to just say what I want to text, but heaven forbid I pause a second or so to gather my thoughts.

I finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

Today i tried to do something that i used to do back in my Alias 2 days (regular cellphone), but couldn't.
Can i record a simple voice message and send it via MMS? It was pretty simple to do with a cell phone...
I saw that the eris comes with a voice recorder, but i recorded a message and was not able to send it.
Any ideas?
Also, when sending pictures via MMS, it always resizes them and obviously the person receiving doesn't get the same quality. I realize that sending via Gmail doesn't resize, but i send to other cell phones a lot.
I'm thinking the only fix is lowering the camera resolution? I think that lowering the resolution is still better than having it resized for the message. Has anyone tried lowering the resolution to a point that the picture does not need to be resized for MMS?
Same thing for Video messages.. can't even send them. Not sure if it's HAndcent, or the file is just to big

I changed the voice mail number from *86 (version default) to my Google voice number. This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

I tried searching for the question I'm about to ask and didn't find any threads so here it goes. Can someone post the steps to setting up Google Voice as visual voice mail for the Captivate? I know it's probably something very simple but I just can't figure it out ( yes, I'm a bit slow ).

I'm sure its been discussed and all but I think that the voice recognition software is capable of being much more advanced. There should be a way to just give your phone a voice command without having to manually open an app. It probably would have to be running in the background the whole time, analyzing everything it hears, so it may use a lot of battery and cpu.therefore it may be easier to have a starter phrase to tell it to listen more carefully. for example: say the said app is running in the background, listening to every noise, but it wouldn't begin to really analyize until you say something like; "hey, phone!" or "yo, droid!" (or whatever tag phrase). I don't know what would have to go into an app like that for it to work but hey, if an app like that was designed, then I think the android would be a really smart smartphone. In the end thanks for all the awesome apps you guys are already developing. be sure to tell me when someone develops something like that though.

Voice playback is basically shot. It plays back completely broken up and muffled with mostly static and crackling. It's to the point that it has to be broken, it's so bad, you can't even make a single word out. I have tried every which way of speaking into it and it is not a poor quality issue, I believe it is just not functioning properly. Phone calls and music playback are excellent and voice recognition is fine but voice playback is broken. I am wondering if it's the SD card since that is where it saves.

You get the number from Google voice and obviously you can make calls. Why can't you just cancel your voice and text plan and just keep your data package and use it like that? Will T-Mobile allow that?

How is it possible to implement voice recognition on android phones? Also to decode the voice and convert the male voice to female voice and vice versa? The voice data input from the user will be sent to the Google site for recognition through Internet, or will be processed and recognized locally on my android phone? if anyone has any idea regarding it.

Is it possible to use the voice recognition api in order to handle a known set of commands yet? VR matches this against a specific valid vocabulary containing only "yes & no", and then returns "no". Can you do this yet? Last time I looked you could not. The VR would match against a full vocabulary and user saying "no" would come back with things like "snow" and so on.The other BIG problem was that if the VR got no match a "Retry" dialog was displayed, this needed to be dismissed by using the screen, which meant the the voice control process failed at this point, terminally.

When I text "unplugged" (power cord) the touch screen is normal, responsive, and usable. When I text "plugged" in, the screen acts like there is a "force field" on top of it, in other words I have to put more pressure on the screen to be able to use the on screen keyboard. Haven't noticed it on surfing or doing other things, just the on screen keyboard. It just started recently and just seems weird. I have the HTC EVO, pretty much standard, normal updates, etc. Haven't updated anything in a couple of weeks, but this just started. Not a show stopper but a little annoying is all.

I have a question. What spy apps can someone put on their phone and then type in the number they want to spy on to get a copy of the text messages they send and receive? I ask because a friend of mine just called from their work number saying their baby daddy just sent her a text message, she sent to someone else followed by a text asking how long she has been talking to him. LOLL I'm not on that type of stuff but dang that is funny to me. She said he hasn't installed anything on her phone cause she has her phone pattern locked (however you can see the pattern when you look at her phone). But I was wonder does anyone know of a program you can put on and Evo phone that would allow you to do this.

I'm looking at getting a smart phone, but I have a couple questions about Android apps. Specifically, is there an app that lets me send texts via data? Verizon makes me buy a data plan, and if I want unlimited texting, its a different plan. So I end up paying for unlimited texting, AND data. If I can get away without spending the extra 20 a month and just using an app, I'd do that. Anyways, sorry if this question has been answered, I searched and didn't see anything.

I finally convinced my hubby into letting me get the EVO. I got rid of my stupid Instinct and got the EVO. I am TOTALLY in love and have not have one thing go wrong with it *knock on wood*. I get the occasional odd message but nothing that can't be fixed by moving out of the concrete block we live in. Annnyways. I was on Damn You Auto Correct! - Funny iPhone Fails and Autocorrect Horror Stories and keep seeing a lot of Iphone "screenshots" of texts and they look really cool with different backgrounds and texts and what not. Is there a way to get that on the EVO? Is it like certain themes to download or something?

I got my phone on launch day and now all the sudden the last week at least I've had weird issues with texting. I thought maybe it was Handcent but I just noticed it on the default texting app. For awhile on Handcent sometimes when I'd open a 'conversation' it would have one persons messages but another persons name on the top. Yesterday I sent a text to one person, it showed in the conversation that it went to the correct person, but someone else actually received it(and it didn't show on my end that the wrong person got it). I deleted Handcent, as obviously that's unacceptable..Who would want, say, their mom, to get a questionable text meant for one of your fly honeys right?! However, I was just looking at texts from last night sent from the default text app and it showed a text I'd sent to one person going to the wrong person(but I know the right one received it...basically the opposite of what happened previously). Has anyone else had issues like this?

Lately my phone has been freezing a LOT while texting. I'm using handcent. No fancy contact pictures, just simple iphone setup with black and white. I don't have a lot of apps on my phone, I have froyo, I don't have a lot of music on it, I mean.. I text a lot, but lately this slowdown has been pretty bad. Freezing every few minutes, locking up, having to lock the phone unlock it to work, sometimes having to reboot it.
