HTC EVO 4G :: How To Turn Off Phonebook Sync W/ Blue Tooth?
Nov 1, 2010
I have finally gotten my BT connectivity issue resolved but have a new problem. I am using the Kenwood KCA-BT300 and as soon as it connects to the EVO, it starts to download the phone book. My phone book has about 900 contacts, so it's taking FOREVER. While it's downloading the book, I am not able to make calls from the stereo unless I start the call from the EVO. I would like to EVO to STOP sharing the phonebook via BT...is that possible and if so how? And out of curiosity, has anyone else had any issues like this and the Kenwood BT unit?

Is it possible to record an audio (not a phone call) using the blue tooth input and not the device microphone? I am able to playback whatever am saying through device's mic but not able to figure out how to use the blue tooth mic instead. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am very upset that I can not initiate a phone call THROUGH my blue tooth headset. I was told by HTC Customer support that the 2.1 OS doesn't support it. I was then told that they have no idea when 2.2 will be rolled out.
That the agents were told THE MORNING that 2.1 came out, that "2.1 is now out there. Get ready." Then told that 2.2 is being developed, but that the customer service agent's have NO idea when it will be released. They are being told to say, "In the near future."
I was also told that the "Incredible" has the same software as the Eros, and therefore, the blue tooth is NOT any more fully compatible. Which is interesting, since the Verizon agent said, "Oh yeah, just upgrade to the Incredible, it works fully, with blue tooth devices." Mind you, that would be an additional $99.95. Inmagine how pissed I'd be if I did THAT!

I finally decided to root my phone Friday, then while playing with it last night I arrived at the point of having to load a rom or use adb to remove the Sprint bloatware. Well after much deliberation I decided to load Fresh 1.1 and am loving it! My graphics are sharper, noticed most clearly on my lock screen, which is the bullet hole in glass, and my programs list, before I could barely make out Achmed's face, now it is clear as a bell! I am currently at 10% on my up-time, battery I will have to watch a few days and see if I notice a difference since Sunday is a slow day on the phone for me. Things do appear a little snappier in some respects, other things have actually slowed a tad, but nothing bad enough to complain about. I loaded clear widgets, but with my wallpaper (Hokusai-The Great Wave) I could not read my calendar and other things due to the light colors, so I did a restore and was back to my fresh Fresh 1.1 easy as can be. Pre-Kitchen and Fresh 1.1 are awesome pieces of work, kudos! Now, if my wife will ever give me my truck back I can test the blue tooth functionality of Fresh 1.1!

I have tried every trick from every site. But ever since I rooted my wife's phone its battery doesn't last pass 7-8 hours. I done the *#*#4636#*#*, the gps on networks off, auto killer on aggressive, battery defender and still her battery doesn't last. She keeps blue tooth on all the time and has three email accounts set @ every 15 mins. She says that when she was stock 1.5 it lasted all day. But the stock rom would restart by itself all the time. Boy I wish that I never rooted her phone. I've upgraded radio without any change in performance. What 2.1rom is easiest on the battery? Can I flash her back to a 1.5 rooted rom that is not a battery hog. I love my Fresh 2.0d I'm 75% at night before I go to bed. But I don't blue tooth either.

Any idea if this could cause battery issues? I usually drive my car every day but I've never had anything like this stupid charger with a light that is PERMANENTLY on. My cigarette lighter port is powered 100% of the time, even when the car is turned off, locked, etc.
This also seems like a theft issue to me... it's just a stupid charger but that won't stop them from thinking "OMG SHINY BLUE LIGHT, MUST BE FANCY STUFF INSIDE!!!"
Any way to turn it off other than breaking it?

My problem is that when one makes a hotspot, every time one presses it, it flashes for a moment in blue (maybe other colours as well, just for the widget I am doing at the moment it is blue), to indicate the act of clicking on it. This is ok for small hotspots, however for something relatively large it looks rather weird. Is it possible in any way to turn off this flashing.

I'm hoping to get my hands on an X10 soon and want to copy the contacts from my Hero across easily. I can't find an obvious export function. I thought that I could sync the phone contacts to my Google account. However, each time I try that, it comes up with an error message something like "Google Sync is currently experiencing problems", then I get a "Force Close" message.

Seems I just lost all my phonebook... the only reason I think it could have happened is because I cleared data regarding my google sync adress? Is this the case? There was a message mentionning i would lose data if I do so, but why is my phonebook that is normally on my sim card disappeared since I re adjusted google sync? This is ridiculous, lost years of contacts... please tell me there is a way to get my phonebook back... and that there is no link with what I did with Google sync...

I'm planning on getting the Sprint Hero. I have a hosted Exchange account that I use to manage my emails, calendar, contacts, and tasks. I'm planning on continuing using my Exchange account. I do not want to use Google for Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks syncing.
I have the following questions.
1. How do I turn off Google calendar, contacts, and tasks syncing?
2. Do I need to turn off Google syncing?
3. Is Exchange data stored and managed separately on the phone from Google's calendar, contracts, and tasks but displayed together in the HTC applications?
4. Will the HTC implantation of Exchange ActiveSync allow me to sync tasks?

How do I turn on Exchange calendar sync? I can't find the option. I have my Exchange email setup and everything is working fine. When I set it up I told it not to sync my contacts and calendar because I usually sync my work calendar with Google Calendar Sync. However, I am now using Office 2010 Beta at work and Google Calendar Sync does not support it.

I recently got the droid x and relinquished my blackberry curve.I love this phone but I have one major problem.I am a psychologist, and use my X to schedule all of my appointments, and keep track of my clients.Because of legal issues and client privacy laws, I need to keep my phone from syncing my Google calendar to the internet.I can't have that information out there.I use Gmail for all of my email and contacts and such, but every time I turn off Google sync on my phone it syncs again the next day.I don't want to just kill all syncing, or I won't get my email anymore. Any ideas? I am also up for finding an "offline" calendar that has the same principals of Google calendar, but has no syncing ability.

I have a Verizon brand car charger but have never had the need to use it until this weekend when I traveled from NJ to VT for skiing. I had the navigation and pandora going the entire trip with the charger pluged in. However when I got there and unplugged the battery was almost completely dead.
Does the car charger not supply enough power to charge and run the droid with all the data and gps usage going?
Also the area where I was staying had very poor coverage and once the droid was charged it lost its charge very quickly. should I turn off sync in areas of poor coverage?

I have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....
