HTC EVO 4G :: How to Find a root exploit?

General :: Find Right Exploit Before Rooting?

Jul 26, 2012

I recently found a post on androidauthority about a DARPA tool that looks for known open vulnerabilties on your android device. The good part for us is many rooting processes are based on these If you are new to the game or just not sure which method is the easiest for you too root your device you can start with this one. If it finds an exploit on your system just search for the tool that support you rooting your device through that hole and you're done

unfortunately these vulnerabilities get fixed soon, so if it doesn't find your security hole you will need to flash something that has one

HTC EVO 4G :: Rooting - Back Up Factory Settings In Order To Exploit

Nov 4, 2010

I am big with games so I have been wanting to get an overclocking app for the Evo, but all I could find on the Market are apps for the Droid X/2. Is CPUSet the only (or the best) overclocking app for the Evo and what is the max speed you can safely overclock it? I have not rooted my phone, and just learned in order to even overclock it you need to do so. From what I have read on the forums, rooting the phone removes the warrenty. What I have not been able to find is how you back up the factory settings in order to "exploit" this if something happens to the phone in the future. This talks about it a little, but I didn't find any specifics. Quick INTRO TO ROOTING for those new to rooting

Another question I have is how much space do you actually save when it comes to rooting? Some people mainly root just gain complete control of the phone, others to increase/decrease speed and battery life, and some to save space getting rid of things like the Sprint NASCAR app. The Evo has 1G of internal memory, correct? Right now with the different apps I have installed I have 200-250mb free. I never checked what it was out of the box before installing anything, anyone have an answer there? Last question I have is with the different operating systems available. As said in the above thread (link), there are pros and cons with each (Baked, Fresh, etc.). Can anyone tell me of some for each, or is there a thread you can point me to that already does? I could only find info on Cynogon or whatever it's called.

General :: AOCOS PX102- Attempting To Root But Can't Find Device Via ADB

Feb 1, 2013

So there is very little documentation on the PX102 online as of yet, let alone AOCOS products in general (at least on english sites which I have scoured). First off, I'm currently using OSX 10.6.8 and have the current Android developer tools package that was downloaded from their site about three hours ago (just to be clear). The PX102 is running 4.1.1 and the tablet is a fresh restore (I had a number of apps downloaded but considered that some may have been interfering...).

I will be attempting to root via psneuter exploit from SuperOneClick v2.3.3, however in the terminal when I execute "adb devices" it returns "List of devices attached" with blank space underneath...

I have tried to kill/restart server, run "adb usb", and a couple other small things to no avail. Yes, usb debugging mode is enabled as well.

I would really like to attempt/execute this all via OSX, however name an OS and I have it at my disposal...

Motorola Droid :: Root 2.1 -> OTA 2.2 -> Lost Root But Superuser Permission Icon Still Appears

Aug 11, 2010

Here is the scenario:
Motorola Droid - Original

1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.

I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?

Motorola Droid :: Root Problems - App - No Root Access

May 10, 2010

I'm trying to gain root and having some problems...

I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.

After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html

to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?

HTC Hero :: Instant Root Apk Error When Attempting To Root

Mar 27, 2010

I am trying to route my HTC Hero (locked to Orange UK).Following jUsT2eXy's instructions :-
1)Download it.
2)Save it to your SD Card ROOT (not in any folders)
3)Open up a file manager on your phone (Download ASTRO File Manager from the marketplace..if you don't have a file manager..)
4)Find the 'InstantRoot.apk' file.
5)Run it.
6)It will say it's been successful
Ok, so on step 4, I am opening ASTRO, clicking InstantRoot, clicking Open App Manager (other displayed option is Browse file), clicking Install (then Install again). It then displays 'Application installed'. However, I get a notification stating 'Install Root failed / Root access was not acquired'. What am I doing wrong? More info if required Firmware = 1.5

HTC EVO 4G :: Doing Toast's Root? Put PC36IMG.zip File On Root Of Your Sdcard

Jun 11, 2010

Then I tried doing Toast's root and got confused at step 2 (the adb step).
Now, I know a LITTLE about what ADB is and that you basically only need it so you can use your computer to type/see things instead of doing it all on your phone.

(This is the thread that I'm using by the way: [TUTORIAL] How To Root The HTC EVO ~ Part-1 / - xda-developers)

1. So, so far, I downloaded SDK package, saw the "tools" folder and see the "adb" file. When I click on it, it pops up like a "command/cmd" screen and disappears. Is it supposed to happen like that? Or am I doing something wrong?

2. Also, in Toast's method, when he says to put the PC36IMG.zip file on the root of your sdcard. What does he mean by that? I'm sure it's something simple but I'd rather be sure how to "put it in the root of your sdcard". Just that mean just right in the front by all the folders?

3. Next thing the page says is: "adb push PC36IMG.zip /sdcard"
I don't know what he means by that. Am I supposed to do something here?
The steps follow this (until it's Rooted) I understand but not this.

4. Then after rooting there are some other steps he has in the original thread that say somethings about "adb shell, adb.. etc"

What do all those mean?

HTC Desire :: To Root Or Not To Root - Memory Space

Sep 23, 2010

I've got my Desire for 3 months now. I realy think that I have done the best phone choice of my life. But now after installing/uninstalling/testing many apps I have capacity problems with internal memory. I'm using the method of installing apps directly to the SD. But I always have the low on space notification on my task bar. 75% of what I have installed is on my sd. The rest 25% is HTC Sense apps. My Desire runs on stock froyo and combined with htc sense I have the feeling of perfection while using my phone. Everything run smoothly. No complaints.

So what are my options here? Root? I suppose that I will have to erase everything on my phone memory so I would have more space. If this is the case then I have to ask for your suggestions. a) I will have to stick with launcherpro and I dont like it. No htc sense on non stock froyo right? b) I have many security and privacy concerns for using those roms that some groups have developed. Are they stable as atleast stock froyo? Are they safe? Is there a good phone resources administration? omg 12 mb for adobe flash player on my memory?
